Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I can also confirm that the crazy ROG lighting does not change to cool blue

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Great idea! Now you've got me thinking... hmmm... Guy Fawkes night coming up... I'll see if I can find a setting that looks like fireworks/a bonfire... PS How long before we get told off for going off topic? :)

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

The GT-AC2900 has the ROGgie GUI too. Not too fussed about it, but then I thought I'd be switching off the coloured LEDs when I got this... but I actually find myself quite liking them... must be the mid-life crisis kicking in! Look how lovely my son's Lego ship in bottle looks with it... :D...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I just read that elsewhere, good to have confirmation, thanks. Likewise, I think I'll live with it - can't be bothered playing that game of whack-a-mole. GT-AC2900 router + RT-AC66U B1 node still up and stable since last night. :)

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

On my Win10 PC, which is connected to my GT-AC2900 (running RC2-7) by ethernet, the name "ASUS_60" is shown for the network connection. Is it possible to change this in the router, like we can for SSID? I have trawled the GUI settings but cannot find "ASUS_60" anywhere. I thought either...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Well, stock didn't work... so I decided to cast the net wider... SUCCESS!!! I found the solution posted by @endor in June 2020: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asus-rt-ac66u-b2-aimesh-issues.64825/post-595612 In a nutshell, the problem is that some (but not all) RT-AC66U B1 devices have...

    ASUS RT-AC66U B2 AiMesh issues

THANK YOU!!! I have spent hours bashing my head against a wall trying to connect AC66U as a node until I found your post. My problem device was RT-AC66U B1, HW Ver.: B1, Production Year: 2017

Well, that didn't help. Time to try stock... :(

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Another thought - I have been configuring the routers via wifi. Could this be causing problems?

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

1 - I like 192.168.1.1 too. I will go back to it once I have things working (indeed, I think you said similar, way back!) 2 - Alas, I have tried all these reset ways. Thanks for confirming all this as it means less uncertainty and many less permutations to try from now. Phew. My way...

I had tried that way. Many thanks.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I have not gone back as far as RC2-3, but I have not been able to get my RT-AC66U B1 running as a node at all, on neither RC2-6 nor RC2-7 firmware for RT-AC68U. I appreciate that this is a late response to your post (but at least it shows I have now read the thread, further to my slap on the...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Thanks, I will look into it - from what you say it might be enough for my needs but I would not move away from Merlin lightly. I value the fact that it makes these features available to me (i.e. being only semi-literate in this stuff) whilst still encouraging me to learn something. Moreover...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

That's a blast from the past! Thank you. Looks like I'll be sticking to Merlin for a while then... so no AiMesh 2 for me for a while :):(:):(:):(

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

It's so long since my AC66U had stock firmware that I can't remember what's stock and what's Merlin (hence my plea for list of features, to save irritating anybody further!)

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Hmm, sorry about that - I did search for the thread for AC66U first but there were no results, so thought I was clear to post. Good to hear your setup works, many thanks, that encourages me to take the plunge with this sooner (it means buying another compatible router, hence I am being careful...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

This looks great, I would love I proper guest networks on AiMesh nodes. I wonder, has anyone has tried this on a RT-AC66U B1? This router is not listed as compatible but I ask because it works with the AsusWRT-Merlin firmware for the RT-AC68U (which is listed). Something not clear to me -...

2 things: wired port access and guest WiFi on AP

Many thanks for your advice, the detail is very much appreciated. Looking forward to the challenge now.

2 things: wired port access and guest WiFi on AP

If you know of a setup that could do it I'd be glad to hear it. I'll have a look at Tomato.

2 things: wired port access and guest WiFi on AP

I am happy to consider buying some new gear, just not quite sure what I need. For example the Netgear WAC-505 AP seems to be able to assign SSIDs to different VLAN, but not quite sure if that is what I need.
