Firmware support and new router buy.

Except the whole point of MU-MIMO is that the streams can be split up between multiple clients. A 3x3 AP could theoretically transmit to three 1x1 clients simultaneously.

    ASUS RT-AX86U Wi-Fi 6 2.5G port

It is a bit confusing, because you have to select the 2.5G port from the Dual Wan tab, but you can select the 2.5G WAN port from the Dual Wan tab w/o turning dual WAN on, as per here. I haven't tested it, as my modem doesn't have a 2.5G port. My modem DOES have dual 1G ports, and the AX86U...

Firmware support and new router buy.

I have two AX68s, one I picked up new a couple months ago when they first came out, and I just got another as a used Amazon return. It's too soon to say anything about long term reliability, but so far it's been stable, and they run cooler than my AC68, and my new AX86. the AC68 runs the warmest...

    RT-AX68U - can't perform hard factory reset

Apparently it might be an issue with this model. I broke down and asked Merlin, and he said his doesn't work either. I was hesitant to ask in the beta thread, with this being a used router that I have no history with, didn't want to waste their time on an issue that very well could be this...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

Perfect, thanks for checking! I wasn't sure whether or not this could be firmware related, but figured best to ask.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

@RMerlin do I understand correctly that you have an RT-AX68U for testing? I just received a used one from Amazon Warehouse. I've installed beta 2, but I'm unable to perform a hard reset (power on while holding WPS button). It WILL reset via holding down the reset button while powered on...

    RT-AX68U - can't perform hard factory reset

Yes, that's the method I used, but that's also why I'm asking the question. Being a new router, maybe they listed the method in error? I figured it was worth seeing if anyone else has seen this.

    RT-AX68U - can't perform hard factory reset

If the issues didn't start until loading Merlin, then I would consider this a bug report for Merlin. But since I couldn't full factory reset it out of the box, the Merlin firmware shouldn't be to blame, UNLESS this thing got returned because someone else tried to load Merlin on it. I suppose I...

    RT-AX68U - can't perform hard factory reset

I bought an RT-AX68U new, liked it, decided to get another to replace my AC68 when I could find a good deal. A "used/acceptable condition" listing came up on Amazon. I don't care about cosmetics, so I decided to give it a try. To my surprise, it appeared to be in perfect shape physically, but...

Smart TV Internet connection - WiFi or LAN (with WiFi bridge)?

I have two Samsung TVs, one wired because I have ethernet at that location, one not, because I don't (using TV's built-in WiFi). I don't have buffering on either one. Their network performance is seemingly identical.

    Router temperatures

If you're currently powering them via USB, you're already on 5V power. Assuming these are 12v fans, you may not be able to dial them down much more and have them still reliably start on power-up.

    Router temperatures

You have to be mindful of where you're pulling power from, but USB should have ample power. A 12v fan should theoretically run @ 41.67% of its speed when run @ 5v. The power requirements drop with the cube of speed change, or 7.23% of its 12v power. A 12v 200ma fan should draw about 14.5ma @...

    Router temperatures

Ohm's law isn't even directly applicable here, as motors are inductive devices, not resistive. All other things being equal (load), the speed of a DC motor is directly related to the applied voltage (and current relates to torque). Fan laws tell us that the power required by a fan changes with...

    1st attempt at Access Point

FWIW, I manually assign DHCP leases in my main router for all the access points, so I know what their IP addresses are even if they are reset.

To AiMesh or not to AiMesh - that is the question

Yes, everything I've read has lead me to believe the mesh is mostly about making set-up/management easier. So I've personally never tried it, as I'd rather be able to manage them individuallyl.

To AiMesh or not to AiMesh - that is the question

My situation is nearly identical, only difference is router models and number of floors. I've never tried AiMesh. I'm not aware that it necessarily improves roaming, though I've read that using the same channel can speed transitions (at the expense of bandwidth, if you have conflicting traffic)...

Asus Router with Merlin and Access Point on stock FW

I'm running an AX86U as a router on the 386 Alpha that came out about 2 weeks ago or so, an AC68U as an access point on that same Alpha, and an AX68U as an access point on stock Assus firmware (Merlin just added an AX68U Alpha firmware recently, I haven't moved to that yet). I also have a...

What's the verdict on the RT-AX88U vs RT-AX86U vs GT-AXE11000 if I'm buying today

Thanks for the clarification! Maybe when prices come down to earth, I'll see how it does in this old house. ;)

What's the verdict on the RT-AX88U vs RT-AX86U vs GT-AXE11000 if I'm buying today

Perhaps I'm misreading the article, but I'm seeing 5ghz @ 80mhz overtake 6ghz @ 160mhz at -42db or worse. - 42db is what I see 5' away from a router but through just one wall. And again, congestion isn't an issue for ME, because the same thick was that hamper my signals indoors, hamper my...

What's the verdict on the RT-AX88U vs RT-AX86U vs GT-AXE11000 if I'm buying today

But if you look at @thiggins initial testing, 5Ghz outperforms 6Ghz at attenuation levels I experience through one single plaster & lath wall. And I use wired backhaul between my router and APs, so the extra band for wired backhaul doesn't benefit ME. I'm not suggesting 6Ghz isn't any good...
