    AC86U won't power on

Power supplies often look good when not loaded, but produce low voltage when load current is drawn.

Beware, the plugs my not be compatible.

How to improve WiFi Range of AC86U router

I concur. The higher-gain antennas are not provided by the OEM simply because they are larger (unattractive) and not needed in most cases. They DO work and have the advantage of increasing the range of both transmission and reception (AKA "reciprocity theorem") and thus are a better solution...

    RT-AC86U/68U question

The router can connect to several devices on both bands at one time, but each device can only use one band at the same time.

I wonder if anyone else has noticed

I am not familiar at all with Github, but I have to wonder if it could implement some variety of auto-response that says "This is for tracking documented issues only. For support requests please surf to ..............."

    AC86U - fiber , Lan = 900Mb WiFi = 60Mb

The observed bandwidth will be affected by the Wi-Fi channel width you choose (20MHz, 40MHz, 80MHz, etc). In practice I choose the narrowest one because most uses need no more than 5Mbps, and the range is more consistent.

AC68P Ethernet and one USB light on, power light off

Without the ability to test the power supply under load, the best bet is to test it by substituting a known good one. I'm lucky -- I have 2 working AC68 routers so if one gets flaky I can swap supplies to test.

AC68P Ethernet and one USB light on, power light off

If wouterv's suggestions don't get you back on the air, suspect the power supply. Those wallwarts are much less reliable than the ASUS router itself.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

And that also makes it interesting! Check the ping times to Helsinki -- and also note the amazing transAtlantic bandwidth we enjoy.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Cloudflare appears to be be connecting me (in St. Louis) to a server in Chicago. That results in twice the latency of using a closer server -- ie, I am testing not only MY connection but also several along the way to Chicago.

Advise on buying a new router

My AC68U supports 21 clients of which only 7 are wired. It thinks nothing of two Netflix streams at the same time and consistently delivers 230Mbps and 10ms latency from my Spectrum "200Mbps" connection.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Eric, as part of a small A/V installation company I work with I have been upgrading our clients' LANs. We now have about 40 ASUS routers around St. Louis, each one with your firmware installed because we feel it is the most secure and stable. (Old folks in three-story houses don't like climbing...

That's why quoting the message to which you are responding is so useful.

    Options for dead Asus 86U?

Since you have 3, try the suspected unit with a known good power supply from one of the others. The wall warts for these fail more often than the router itself.

RT-N66U rebooting when connecting Samsung Galaxy Tab S5E wifi

RMerlin's firmware and John's fork are at least as secure, and probably more so than the OEM firmware. RMerlin has been known to spot problems that ASUS missed, advise them, and smile while they adopt his changes.

    [Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.18 Beta / 384.13_9 is now available

It is indeeed! But my APC PRO-1500 + matching battery pack is enough to run my cable modem, router, Ethernet switch, least power-hungry printer, desktop PC, 32" monitor, NAS, and house cordless phones for several hours. That load is currently 103 watts.

Any way to see which exact AP I am connected to?

Give each radio a separate SSID (name). Your mobile device will only have to be logged in to each the first time it is encountered -- after that it will log into the strongest. That naming scheme also makes troubleshooting SO much easier.

life expectancy of asus routers vs competitors?

I know, and I would not want to discourage ASUS sales. But most of the subscribers to this forum are more than just "people" -- they are more technically minded and understand the trade-offs.

life expectancy of asus routers vs competitors?

Since streaming Netflix needs about 2Mbps, and Zoom less than half that, range becomes more important than speed here.
