Any Asus router for gigabit wifi

The size of an antenna is related to, but not limited by, wavelength. Many successful antennas have multiple wavelength dimensions (think Yagi, log-periodic, parabolic reflector, ...).

    Beamforming / Mu-MIMO / Airtime Fairness

Fortunately, as you can see from that spectrum clip, most of my interference candidates are below -70 RSSI. The maverick on Ch 3 is the main exception. In any case I have gotten splendid results with my router on Ch 1 and its AP on Ch 11. Interference on 5GHz is not an issue, but it doesn't...

    Why no new Merlin firmware?

Please don't. Don't annoy ASUS or they may hesitate to resume their friendly relationship.

    Beamforming / Mu-MIMO / Airtime Fairness

The problem being that "best" is determined by an algorithm that does not take adjacent-channel interference into account. Here is what I see in my office:

    Beamforming / Mu-MIMO / Airtime Fairness

Yep. It appears that the "auto" choice is made based only on control-channel traffic ("amplitude"), ignoring proximity to neighboring channels ("frequency").

    Beamforming / Mu-MIMO / Airtime Fairness

Thanks, Tim. I know that for a repeating function the channels have to be the same at both ends, else how could they have 2-way comms? But some modern mesh networks seem to put the remote nodes on channels others than 1-6-11. I also understand why that is likely to cause trouble -- I taught...

    Beamforming / Mu-MIMO / Airtime Fairness

Do I recall correctly this "same channel" choice is actually preferable to using a nearby channel because the 802.11 protocols allow same-channel radios to implement multiplex schemes that avoid mutual interference, while adjacent-channel radios cannot do the same? In other words, you are...

Baffled by extending WiFi from Asus RT-AC88U

The length limits for Ethernet depend somewhat on the speed you require, but for the use you have described it should be 100 meters (330 feet): https://www.showmecables.com/blog/post/cable-distance-limits-data

    Basic AiMesh questions

As far as I can tell the address assignment, routing, etc are the same as with an ordinary access point -- that is, the main router carries the load. I will be interested to hear of how the stability and performance of your mesh network compare to the access point version you now have.

    Newbie MESH questions

Tim, thank you again. I am happy to hear that a proper mesh system does not create new subnets, but uses DHCP from the gateway router -- making configuring all local devices more straightforward. In that respect we should be able to treat it just like a router > access point chain. Without...

    Newbie MESH questions

Tim, thank you for your detailed reply. It confirms most of what I thought, but also suggests an issue that may be related to some of the problems we have been seeing in this customer's house. We install high-end audio/visual systems, including a remote control program that runs on iPads and...

    Newbie MESH questions

Just starting to get customers who want MESH, but we are running into situations that we cannot explain. The gateway router in question is an RT-AX92 installed by the customer's son. My best guess is that he used the same for the hard-wired node. So please: 1) Are all IP Address assignments...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.3 is now available

Heat transfer is proportional the temperature difference between the two subjects. Therefore if the ambient temperature in your router's location changes, so will the CPU temperature. The solutions using fans take advantage of this by moving more cool air from the room into the inside of the...

    Dead port on RT-AC68U

Sometimes a bit of lint will get stuck inside a socket. Try blowing that clean before giving up on it. Look for debris inside the socket with a strong light.

M1 iPad Pro Dropping WiFi Constantly

My wife teaches 16 university students (at the same time) over Zoom. I watched the Traffic Monitor report while she was teaching and it rarely exceeded 2MBps (about 16Mbps). At that speed I would opt for the range of 2.4GHz instead of the bandwidth of 5GHz.
