    Asus Survey ???

Did you deduce that from the sender's address? That can be spoofed. To be certain, open the full view of the message headers and track back to the original sender.

    Cannot update Firmware on RT-AC86U

The images you posted in messages #1 and #3 suggest you have an AC68, not an AC86.

    Daisy chaining router over wifi

Assuming you actually meant "450Mbps" and "5G," why would you need more?

Terrible WiFi performance after MerlinASUS firmware update

5GHz has higher speeds, but 2.4GHz has longer range. Given the 2.4GHz easily gets to 80Mbps bandwidth, in most cases there is really no speed penalty. Yes Colin, "or" would have been a better choice.:D

Terrible WiFi performance after MerlinASUS firmware update

That's no guarantee of interference protection. Wi-Fi channels are more than a single channel wide, which is why using only 1, 6 and 11 on the 2.4GHz band is so often recommended. Many gurus claim that adjacent-channel interference is harder to combat than same-channel, since on the same channel...

Guest network - what am I missing?

Thanks for the tip, 9. Whatever degradation may be taking place does not appear to affect her. She is paying Spectrum for 400Mbps down, and getting 450.

Guest network - what am I missing?

Thanks -- I have already boxed them up to return to the friend (with the Guest Network offering 2.4GHz only).

A Little Cooling and A Big Temp Drop

I concur. Three of my shelved AC68 routers now have barely visible LEDs. They weren't very bright to begin with, so I attribute it to poor quality LEDs.

Guest network - what am I missing?

Great idea, Tech9 :D . I will do that until we find the cause.

    But still no bandwidth cap.

Guest network - what am I missing?

Rookie error. I have actually built another local network while setting this up for a friend, and I was looking at the wrong router! From the subject router: PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> ssh admin@192.168.1.1 The authenticity of host '192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1)' can't be established. ECDSA key...

Dave, thanks for your help. I'm going to have to postpone this for a while and get back to it later.

Guest network - what am I missing?

Thanks, Dave. Assume I have never used SSH (I'm best at hardware). I see an attribute for "address" but using "SSH -R 192.168.1.1" returns an error message.

I'd be happy to if I knew how...

Guest network - what am I missing?

Are you saying that the Guest Network is broken in 384.19? We have no need for mesh.

Guest network - what am I missing?

ASUS RT-AC86U, Merlin 384.19, Guest network WPA-Auto-Personal / AES Bandwidth Limiter Yes, Setting 80Mbps down / 5Mbps up Access Intranet Disable (same settings for 2.4G & 5G) On QoS page, QoS Type Bandwidth Limiter shows enabled But logged into the guest network I see no limiting, still...

    Ac66u or AC86U? 500 Mw TX Power?

Increasing the transmitter power by 6dB would theoretically double its range -- but you would not be able to receive the remote client's signal from any farther than you did before. It is also likely that pushing the transmitter power too high would create distortion and thus degrade the data...
