Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

No this was a unused router due to faulty wifi. As you can plainly see it was on the latest firmware and it didn't reject the wrong firmware. By trying you would have noticed rejection is right away and not partway through. The first router is a paper weight although i didn't toss it and may...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

? I am going to guess you haven't flashed many of these because that made no sense. It informs your right away that the upgrade was unsuccessful not part of the way through its not how things work. Don't take my word for it though as i am sure Merlin and everyone else here can confirm that for...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

He right under normal circumstances it shouldn't be possible but clearly something different this time.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

Figure i save you the pain and maybe the router. Crappy one handed quality to put it mildly but good enough for the job. Didn't bother recording to the end as there was no point

Yup otherwise it turns into a slightly pricey experience lol.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

It would appear so. From what i understand the restoration method shouldn't allow for the flashing of the wrong firmware either but it did for the other guy. So there clearly something wrong which allows this when it would normally be impossible to do so.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

Nope although i did try restoring after the fact which of course failed not unsurprisingly. Irony is i noticed my mistake just after i had started the flash but figured i was fine and it would just fail but boy did i get a suprise lol.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

I didn't force it i just uploaded like normal. I think it because the models are so close in name that it didn't stop it. My own fault of course with some help from the cataracts (just found out last month) i ended up not noticing the x instead of the c . Life is never boring it seems.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

Soooo turns out if you flash the ax86 firmware rather then the ac86 firmware onto a ac86 things get quite weird. You can get into the router but you can no longer upgrade the firmware be it through the ui or recovery firmware. Think it may be checking for ax firmware rather then ac firmware...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

Tried all the above. Although given the abuse it had it likely was wearing out anyway. For a year it was running a restaurant and took far more abuse they it was meant to so it was likely time for a upgrade and all mess with it given time and who knows maybe it can be brought back to life.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

Sadly no. No power light no rescue mode.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

So word of warning but you can accidentally flash the AX86 firmware on the Ac86 routers. This doesn't completely brick the router but it does seriously mess it up. Wireless shall no longer work obviously and the only light on the router is the port four light regardless of a cable being...

Possiable to block all traffic not going through a vpn

Got a question from a friend asking if it was possible to block all traffic not going through a vpn. My understanding is the condo complex he working with wants to keep people from abusing the internet they provide or at the least for them to use a vpn so they are not getting death treats from...

Dual wan anyone get it working with Reliability ?

Thanks to Eric and Asus backing him the Asus routers are much better then most but they do seem to have blinders on when it comes to certain issues. Dual wan isn't the most complicated thing to do but maybe because it not in such big demand at the moment it gets ignored. Ended up having to...

Dual wan anyone get it working with Reliability ?

It is rather dumbfound that they don't get it. You see them testing it by unplugging the cable and short of someone tripping over the thing it doesn't happen in the real world. Its a simple problem but one they can't seem to grasp at all. I ended up building a pfsense box and use the asus as...

Dual wan anyone get it working with Reliability ?

its confusing communication with the modem as a active internet connection. Either it just freezes and refuses to fall over or it falls over then it does the check on the primary and thinks the communication with the modem means its back up . Asus seems to not care or doesn't know how to fix...

Dual wan anyone get it working with Reliability ?

Tried both stock and Merlin same results. Given that Merlin confirmed he never touched dual wan i wasn't surprised of the results.

Dual wan anyone get it working with Reliability ?

Could be although this should be accounted for once this is used in other the firmware of the instructions. Problem is its not the most demand or used feature by the average Joe so Asus has put little effort into it hence why no one seems to have been able to get it to work properly. May have...

Dual wan anyone get it working with Reliability ?

Already on :) I think Asus did most of there testing by unplugging the Ethernet cable which does cause the fall over but isn't terribly real world. Noticed this in every video review of this feature the cable would be unplugged rather then the internet disconnected from the modem. Seems to be...
