pixelserv pixelserv - A Better One-pixel Webserver for Adblock

pixelserv can write to syslog, but doesn't parse it. MYLOG is a macro which is null defined in util.h unless compiled with -DVERBOSE good catch, the "cls" will be incremented if the the SSL_accept fails or rv from SSL_read (for https) or recv is zero, the description of "cls" is not...

    RT-AC88U loses WAN connection

When reverting firmware version you also need to do an NVRAM reset to defaults too, which means the IP address and Wireless SSIDs etc all revert to factory defaults. The nvram reset should be possible through the firmware rescue web tool o r by powering up with correct buttons pressed,

pixelserv pixelserv - A Better One-pixel Webserver for Adblock

I started looking at that some time ago but didn't get too far. I'm sure it is not a coincidence the number of cls is very close to the total number of https (all types), I suspected it must be part of the handover from initial connection to the secure one? There are actually 2 routes to get...

Ars: Advanced CIA firmware can turn home routers into recon slaves

Why go for individual routers when you can plug in to something like LINX in the UK and copy all international packets to X or from Y? I suspect this report is FUD

pixelserv pixelserv - A Better One-pixel Webserver for Adblock

    I'm still using "-p 80 -p 81 -p 8080 -p 8081 -k 443 -o 2", although I note that IANA defines 591, 8008 and 8080 as http_alt or HTTP Alternate, probably just an academic exercise to check the multiport code!

    Double writing in syslog?

I have a ping script linked from the wan-start, this runs forever so should the wan get restarted I would get multiple copies. I avoid this by always killing existing copes before starting using:- killall wan_check.sh /mnt/usb4gb/wan_check.sh &

Asus RT-AC66U recovering from paperweight with TUMPA Lite and zJTAG / tJTAG

Well done for getting openocd to run - but it seems you may be the first to try with the AC66. I recall the main developer was very helpful with the N16 and N66U, there some magic Broadcom commands to switch mode etc. But this was a few years ago - suggest you try to make contact.

    Double writing in syslog?

I think you have 2 copies of your script running! This can happen if using the wan-up or firewall scripts, often the wan is brought up to run dhcp then it is taken down, brought up again when ISP details. Your script should check for multiple occurrences.

Asus RT-AC66U recovering from paperweight with TUMPA Lite and zJTAG / tJTAG

I believe the way forward is with OpenOCD, but the N66U needs an extra resistor soldered onto the board https://www.snbforums.com/threads/how-to-asus-routers-jtag-recovery.19077/ But this really is a last resort, did you see if you can et anything out of serial console first?

Feature request: Launch user scripts from WebUi

Not going to happen, at one time Merlin FW had a command window like Tomato IIRC, but it was removed, impossible to secure. You can do anything you want with ssh root command line access.

RT-AC66U - During heavy download CPU maxes & WiFi fails - is this normal?

I don't think wifi dropping out is normal, but if cpu maxing out anything can happen, there is a reason all the newer routers have faster dual core ARM processors. The N66U can speedtest over 220Mbps on UK VM 200/12 Mbps service (despite the Intel Puma 6 bugged Hub 3.0 cable modem) - but only...

Asus RT-N600 Asus Firmware, looking to upgrade to AsusWRT Merlin

Merlin only supports a subset of the Broadcom chipset routers https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/Supported-Devices The N600 has a Mediatek CPU https://wikidevi.com/wiki/ASUS_RT-N600

DDWRT Command Shell or Tomato System Commands equivalent with Merlin?

Asuswrt has some historic link to Tomato for build scripts, but WebUI is all Asus. Merlin is on top of Asuswrt. I fully agree no need for a web gui to issue system commands, impossible to secure. Use ssh command line access with care.

    Site Blocking

It is hard to block big sites such as youtube, since they use a pool of IP addresses which may change over time. Merlin firmware includes ipset which is designed for such varying lists, but I suspect you need a lot of scripting https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/Using-ipset

    Can't change Dnsmasq cache size

You need to give the dnsmasq conf file as a parameter when testing, should be found at /etc/dnsmasq.conf

    Can't change Dnsmasq cache size

I use 8192 for cache-size - via a custom dnsmasq.conf which I found easier than using script commands to create, but of course needs more tlc when firmware version or other standard options enabled via gui. Why? I can't remember I have been doing this for a long time...

    RT-N66U Tx power..again

Merlin 380.62_1 for N66U has Tx power adjustment on the Wireless "Professional Tab", not sure if it works however I leave mine at max "Performance". I thought you could also use the Asus mobile app to change?

    Replacing DNSMasq DNS with Unbound

pixelserv is just the endpoint. It is the adblock scripts that need to known how to configure the dns server with diversions for ad hosts/domains.

    Replacing DNSMasq DNS with Unbound

I'm sure init-start is too early, why not the post-mount script to make sure usb and Entware running first - but then again surely you just add to Entware init scripts on the usb?

    dnsmasq - tftp broken?

I don't know about tftp, but dnsmasq for dns/dhcp drops root privileges and runs as user "nobody". Does that user have access to files in /jffs/tftpboot ?
