    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.63SF

Not sure why anyone would complain about him, his releases are better than the stock firmware. Since I do not have a very fast connection, I don't really do anything that will stress the WAN to LAN connectivity, but areas of great improvement for me has been the storage performance for both...

Orbi - MU-MIMO looks to be supported for clients now...

Always good to see firmware improvements, though for the transmit power thing, it seems that they just use a high value there because the transmit power is limited elsewhere, and to an unreasonably low level compared to the already crazy low limit that the FCC already set, it is like looking at...

Netgear X4S R7800 Firmware comparison Stock vs Voxel performance issues

Also keep in mind that a few netgar routers including the 7800, for some reason, has a bug where throughput over port 80 will be slower than others, almost as if CTF will randomly stop working. This happens even if QOS and any anything else that seems like it would inspect packets, is disabled.

Nobody puts the Netgear X4S R7800 in the closest

With these routers, it is best to avoid running coax for the antenna. The attenuation you get from the wire, will be more than the attenuation you get from a little wood. If the router is an enclosed cabinet, do not expect it to last too long anyway, thus if needed you can look at replacement...

    R7800 weirdness... Any pointers

Try unchecking the option that says "Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence" in your WiFi settings. If the PHY rate does not increase, then re-check that box. If you are stuck on the 2.4 GHz band and the phone has a single stream radio on that band, then a 20MHz channel width, should give you around...

DC current requirements for RBS20 and RBR20

If you have some perf board and a male and female DC jack, you could build a simple breakout board for the power input. Then simply run the power through your multimeter (set to the 10 amp setting) and measure how many amps the device is actually using during startup, and when running a stress...

    Netgear X4S R7800 - Did I hit a CPU Bottleneck?

Do you have QOS enabled? also for some reason WAN to LAN throughput for TCP traffic over port 80, is slower than the performance of any other port, even with QOS and other features disabled. I have not seen this issue with other routers though.

    TP-Link Announces Two Wi-Fi 6 Routers

I guess I forgot to press reply last time. TP-link tends to not support their devices with firmware updates for very long, often less than 6 months if you look at their website. https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download-center Even for models that were popular for a long time, as soon as a...

    First Peek At Wi-Fi 6: ASUS RT-AX88U & NETGEAR RAX80

I wonder, it seems like no modding groups are working on modified bios anymore. For older Lenovo laptops, it used to be possible to just flash a modded version that disables the whitelist, some even unlocked the full range of settings (which made overclocking possible where allowed by the CPU)...

News NETGEAR Stealthily Goes Public With Its Draft 11ax Routers

Many routers are increasingly adding features that require more RAM, e.g., some will add services like plex, and routers such as the AC2600 from Synology, have even moved to have a package center. With users wanting to do more with these products, even 2GB of RAM may be lacking. One potential...

News NETGEAR Stealthily Goes Public With Its Draft 11ax Routers

I wonder why they are still giving routers such a tiny amount of RAM, even entry level $120 smartphone snow have 2GB of RAM. For high end routers, they should really start to push to 4+GB of RAM.

News NETGEAR Stealthily Goes Public With Its Draft 11ax Routers

A subscription service for a router will be horrible. We do not need another skydog or revolv situation. Cloud reliance is only beneficial to the company making the product as they have greater control over the end of life of a product.

Can the SOC be overclocked in order to get better performance?

    No More Social Media

To me it seems more designed around quickly showing small bits of content with little to no interaction or logical discussion, e.g., https://twitter.com/Otter_News Not much discussion but there is a regular drip feed of cuteness.

    No More Social Media

Facebook has a horrible UX. Twitter is kinda okay since there are pages that just show cute pictures of raccoons, lynxes, otters, and other cute animals, beyond that they do not seem to have much use.

Qualcomm introduces their first 802.11ay 60GHz chipsets

Well 802.11ad was rather short lived. It seems like they are shooting them self in the foot with the 60GHz band. Tons of promises but nothing seems to get done with it due to companies being scared to make client devices.

Wifi usb hdd slow speed on large file transfer on R7800

Different firmware versions will have different USB storage performance, e.g., I am currently onV1.0.2.60SF of the Voxel firmware, and compared to some older versions, some of the USB issues came back where for the first few hours of use, the write speeds can be in the 75+MB/s range, then after...

New router vs mesh vs extender for fios in apartment

Since you are not using their TV service, things will be a little easier. If you have direct access to the ONT, then you can just run an Ethernet cable to it and use any router you want. I also have the g1100 and its WiFi coverage is horrible (better than the MI424-WR, but still bad). I...

Cisco Announces New Meraki Go SMB Wi-Fi Solutions

That seems insanely overpriced if you think of total cost of ownership compared to a non-cloud reliant AP setup.

Netgear Jaguar (Nighthawk X12) AX6000 Wireless Router

The document I linked to, delved int the use of shielding, and nothing was completely effective in removing that interference, though shielding was able to reduce the interference.
