    Asus rt-n18u connection /load times

When you tested the DNS servers from your modem, what was their average response time ?

RP-AC55 Access Point handed out IP addresses?

I'm pretty sure it was a "race" from the time the switch in the 5300 started working till when it started giving out IP's with RP-55's already handing them out before deciding they had a connection of their own and stopped giving out "Wan down" IP's to the wired devices. I don't know if...

RP-AC55 Access Point handed out IP addresses?

yup , nature of the beast when the RP-AC55 can't connect to anywhere. It wouldn't be so bad if the dnsmasq instance in them only gave 60 second dhcp allocations. The released them when it's connection came back up. Or , maybe better yet , none at all so the clients continued looking for a dhcp...

    Asus rt-n18u connection /load times

I think those are either legacy (B) or G devices . Setting Wireless Mode to Auto should fix that. They and other Sony/Mac/I-Phone devices have trouble connecting to my RT-AC68U and the RT-AC88U with this set to anything else as well as when I have universal beam forming turned on.

    Asus rt-n18u connection /load times

Have you tried manually setting the DNS provider in your Samsung phones. The internet gateway provided by my DSL ISP is HORRIBLY slow at responding to dns and dhcp queries. In the photo I have a few name servers showing . The first 2 are local to me. The first is an RT-N12_D1 connected by...

Difference in antenna dbi with picture

This seems to be morphing considerably from "The differences of these 2 antennas" to my DNS servers are not responding for 15 seconds. If the link below doesn't help your DNS problem, open a new thread that might help you find better answers. Homepage for GRC.com - DNS Benchmark Utility

Difference in antenna dbi with picture

I do not know how to explain this any differently than stated. My understanding of the antenna for the RT-N66U, you have pictured, is that the 2 sections are radiating in phase with each other. Which narrows their beam width and increase their gain. It is the same length but not the same...

Difference in antenna dbi with picture

But not antennas. What an antenna with higher gain will do is increase the received signal of other stations at your site plus the transmitted ERP power from your site. The gain in line of site distance also means lower radiated signal and receive strengths from stations at a higher elevation...

Difference in antenna dbi with picture

In your original post the antenna pictured on the bottom is considered a 1/2 wave dipole for 2.4 GHz with a maximum theoretical gain of 3.1 dB over an isotropic radiator. Hence it is referred to as a 3dBi gain antenna. The top antenna pictured is considered a co-linear antenna or phased array...

How to start srcript automatically after reboot (RT-AC86U)

Yes, the contents of /tmp are only held in RAM memory. They go away and get recreated with each boot.

    DNS redirect or captive portal

This seems pretty straight forward, to me. When a router doesn't detect an internet connection AND has "Wan Down Redirect" enabled, dnsmasq is set to direct all queries to either 10.0.0.1 or it's own lan ipaddress. Usually it is 192.168.1.1 but it could be any thing. Just make sure dhcp is...

Captive portal for guest network on RT-AC66U B1

I have kind of been in the same boat off-n-on for a couple of years. What pushed me over the edge was, My son has a car detailing business and asked recently about offering wifi for his patrons, at a low initial cost and without recurring costs. His next prerequisite (sp?) was a splash page...

    Guest network for wired devices

I'm not sure of how to break one of his ethernet ports out of the vlan the router FW created, making it a separate vlan on it to add to br0. If nothing else was connected by ethernet to that router, then wouldn't he be able to log in and issue ebtables -I FORWARD -i vlan1 -j DROP ebtables -I...

    News ASUS support site rearranged

Even after my purchases of an RT-AC66U(not B1), then an RT-AC88U and a pair of RT-AC66u_B1's to take advantage of the extended range capabilities of AI-Mesh, I have not installed them for lack of BW throttling of the guest networks and also no Guest networks in AI-Mesh. It also seems as though...

Restrict Hardwired LAN Port to Internet Only

JCima, You might have a look at the output of ebtables -L to give you an idea how it's getting done with your router and firmware.

How to start srcript automatically after reboot (RT-AC86U)

Realizing there would be differences between the stock FW I run on my RT-N66U and what is current on newer hardware , I have found that killing dnsmasq with grace notifies the watchdog service that dnsmasq has stopped and will restart it instantly. As RMerlin has stated, when the routers...

Interesting ac-68 guest network devices behavior with pi-hole

Among a lot of other info and available options , issuing dnsmasq --help at the CLI of your ASUS router should return --add-mac[=base64|text] Add requestor's MAC address to forwarded DNS queries. --add-subnet=<v4 pref>[,<v6 pref>] Add specified IP subnet...

How to start srcript automatically after reboot (RT-AC86U)

Oh , Definitely ! I would NOT be telnetting in through the internet or using the HTTP connection from an external connection. I don't have any services running that are accessible on external ports. I'm running stock fw 382_50702 on an RT-N66U. Using the GUI, the only CLI option is Telnet. But...

How to start srcript automatically after reboot (RT-AC86U)

You are welcome. I am not aware of any specific documentation and can provide no links. What I know, was not found in my users manual. I have provided enough information for you to be a danger to your system. What was given should be plenty to get you started down that path.
