Is this a bug on Asus firmware? WAN disconnections

The documentation he read to me was internal. 150 seconds is longer than 2 minutes (120 seconds).

Is this a bug on Asus firmware? WAN disconnections

Thanks for the reply. I have been following and using your firmware since I bought the RT-N66U back in the summertime, and that you had implemented the Normal / Aggressive setting to deal with Charter. Unfortunately, I had it set to Normal and was still having this issue. I am using...

Is this a bug on Asus firmware? WAN disconnections

I dealt with this issue in the morning, left it alone and came back at night. My ISP is Charter. I was finally able to get a manager on the phone and he indicated several helpful tips for troubleshooting this problem. 1) The error message in Charter's logs is "DHCP Lease Denied." 2) He...

    accel-ppp (l2tp/ppp/ppoe) software on ASUSWRT-Merlin

Sure, it's highly secure, but it's also a pain for newbies to set up. There are assumptions about familiarity with security terms and concepts that the average hobbyist doesn't know. I tried it once between a Mac and a PC. It took me several hours on and off to get it right. L2TP is...

New FW - ASUS RT-N66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.374.720

I have read reports online that some people who have complained are having their forum accounts deleted.

    RT-N66U LEDs and Stealth Mode

The method used to dim LEDs is called pulse-width modulation (PWM). A PWM dimmer turns the lights on and off at a high frequency, with the "off" period being longer as the lights get darker. This oscillation causes nearly imperceptible flicker. Unfortunately, this must be supported at the...

    Dual RT-N66U's with same SSID's?

The Wi-Fi spec is designed for multiple access points with the same SSID, as long as they're all connected by the same LAN backbone. It's also encouraged to put the devices on different channels. Even Cisco advises network administrators to do this. As far as I understand it, Cisco APs with...

Do not install TomatoUSB Shibby Build 111.

Thank you both. I was unaware of linksysinfo.org until RMerlin had mentioned it.

Do not install TomatoUSB Shibby Build 111.

A number of users on Page #140 from this thread on the TomatoUSB.org forums are reporting trouble with Build 111, released yesterday (Sunday, July 28th). I don't know who this person is, or where Mr. Shibby normally posts, but I'd take this as sound advice to stay away and wait for v112.

Why are my 5GHz transfer rates so bad??

The range of 5GHz is shorter than 2.4GHz, and 802.11n also does not propagate as far as 802.11g. How far away is the PC? What kind of rooms / walls are between you and the router? Are there tiles on these walls? Are there any large mirrors on these walls? Tiles are adhered with cement...

RT66U Firing ARP-Requests all day (Waking my Synology NAS from Sleep)

It's a 2009 model that doesn't have any of the new Internet-enabled features. iCloud is not installed. It's also connected via Wi-Fi using the three-antenna Apple Airport Extreme card (AR5BXB112 model, Atheros 9380 chipset). http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00881PHO2/?tag=snbforums-20. The computer...

RT66U Firing ARP-Requests all day (Waking my Synology NAS from Sleep)

This post may help explain why my Mac Pro has been waking up exactly once an hour, then going right back to sleep 30 seconds later.

Looking for a stable wireless router for network with 20+ clients

The N66U has 256MB of working (volatile) RAM, and 32MB of Flash (non-volatile) RAM. The Flash is only used for the firmware and device settings, and is sufficiently large to allow for expandability. 256MB is more than sufficient to manage 32 clients. It could actually manage several hundred...

RT-N66U with merlin firmware DDNS does not update on public IP change

Are you using DynDNS ? If so, read this thread. http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=11825

Dyn.com drops "remote update" on free accounts; must login, or upgrade to Pro.

This is a public service announcement. I do not work for DYN. I received this email today because I have two registered dynamic hosts. Some people may have used bogus and throwaway email addresses during registration, so you may not yet be aware of this policy change. If you have a dynamic...

Sustained packet loss, intermittent. Ready to pull hair out.

Frame Burst was set to "Enable." I switched it to Disable. I also turned down the transmission power, which seems to have brought stability back to the Mac Pro's connection. The ping times are still very bad (133ms average).

Sustained packet loss, intermittent. Ready to pull hair out.

I had turned the transmitters up to 100mW on 2.4GHz and 80mW on 5GHz. I'm backing them down to 50mW and 60mW to see if that makes a difference. So far the only device that seems to be having any real significant issues is the Mac Pro. Tomato Shibby has a tool that will take background noise...

Sustained packet loss, intermittent. Ready to pull hair out.

Just one day later, and the problem has reappeared. What the hell... My apartment is not being bombarded with microwaves, and I don't own any cordless phones. This piece of shirt is defective. It took several minutes to load the pages on the forum, and nearly 5 minutes to attach three measly...

    Charter and IPv6

For anyone else looking for answers, Charter has a substantial amount of information about their IPv6 plans in this article, and how to configure your equipment to use it. http://www.myaccount.charter.com/customers/Support.aspx?SupportArticleID=2665

Sustained packet loss, intermittent. Ready to pull hair out.

I had another small problem with the firewall: couldn't forward ports, UPNP not working, couldn't hit the VPN from outside, and there was an error on any of the firewall screens in the GUI: "iptables-restore line 47 failed." Thankfully, a Google search told me to run iptables -F from the...
