    Completely resetting WAN interface

My signature is up to date. The reason is that 384.19 has been working great for me and I did not want to rock the boat. Additionally with the gigabit (hardware) upgrade, I did not want to change everything at once. Too many variables. I am pretty sure the add-ons are very stable and are not...

    Completely resetting WAN interface

I already captured DHCP traffic with tcpdump and found out it's unrelated to DHCP. The WAN connection just sporadically goes down and only recovers when the router is rebooted. I documented this in another thread WAN was exceptionally disconnected. Since this all happened after the ISP had...

    Completely resetting WAN interface

Agree. My ISP is trying to figure it out. Until then I need to bring up the WAN preferably without reboots.

    Completely resetting WAN interface

I am looking for commands to completely reset the WAN eth0 interface on my RT-AX88U equivalent to what happens during a reboot. Something that goes beyond service restart_wan. Background: my WAN goes sporadically down and only a reboot fixes it. I would like to find a way to take eth0 offline...

    WAN was exceptionally disconnected

To answer my own question, I played around with udhcpc (not on the router) and learned what these paramters (-t -T -A) really do: DHCP Query Frequency: Aggressive Mode (default): send 3 discover packets with 3 seconds pause, wait for 20 seconds if this fails then repeat forever > sudo ./busybox...

    WAN was exceptionally disconnected

My ISP has not been clear what is going on. I kept digging and changed the DHCP query frequency setting from Aggressive to Continuous. Interestingly I had not had any WAN disconnects for 5 days. Then it happened again yesterday. I had to reboot. Now I am using tcpdump on port 67 and 68 to see...

    WAN was exceptionally disconnected

    No, I am not.

    WAN was exceptionally disconnected

My ISP told me there are some network equipment issues which are still being tracked down. Unclear if the ONT is affected or not. Nothing one can do at the router side. I think behind the WAN was exceptionally disconnected or ISP's DHCP did not function properly messages many different root...

    WAN was exceptionally disconnected

More and more I believe there is a hardware incompatibility issue with the DASAN ONT and possibly its Ethernet controller chip. Since only a reboot of the router resolves this WAN drop and @ColinTaylor remarked that a router reboot should also cause an electrical reset. This post points out...

    WAN was exceptionally disconnected

Interesting. However I am on 384.19! Is yours still working? Maybe it is a certain setting.

    WAN was exceptionally disconnected

Thanks for the tip. I'll try this.

    WAN was exceptionally disconnected

Unfortunately, I have no access to the ONT, I think it must be in bridge mode. I am more and more convinced that there is a problem in the ONT or maybe an incompatibility between my Asus router the and the ONT.

    WAN was exceptionally disconnected

Thank you, I will contact the ISP tomorrow. The WAN connection went down again :( I tried to turn off the WAN interface (in the GUI) and on again which made no difference. I also tried different DHCP frequency modes which also did not help. The only thing that seems to work is rebooting the...

    WAN was exceptionally disconnected

Here is the situation: this week my fiber Internet service was upgraded from 100Mbs up and down to 1Gbit up and down. The provider, Gigamonster, replaced the media converter with an ONT. Speeds are great but occasionally the router (RT-AX88U running 384.19) reports WAN disconnects: WAN was...

Frontier claims their router is better than most (Including my AX88U)

Definitely turn off QoS and reboot the router! The AX88U (using 384.xx) has issues deleting tc rules when you change the FlexQoS configuration options in the WebUI. This is resolved after a reboot or in 386.xx. The hardwired laptop should definitely show you the full up/down speeds. If this is...

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.2.4 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

@dave14305 I noticed that sometimes there are no subdivisions on the Rate axis, specifically for high kb/s values: Is this a feature or bug?

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.2.4 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

@dave14305 I finally updated to v1.1.0 and I love the logarithmic graphs :) Occasionally the Automatically refresh data every ... setting is turned off because of too many tracked connections. Is it possible to increase this limit? I assume the more powerful models should be capable of.

    Robust DNS Settings

After 7 hours the connection to Google DNS was restored, I assume by my ISP: (connmon tracked this nicely) Thanks, Dave, for all your help :) And I learned today that it's better to have the WAN browser redirect notice disabled because stubby does its job to rotate between all specified DNS...

    Robust DNS Settings

I disabled now the Enable WAN down browser redirect notice and configured DNS Server1 with 8.8.8.8 again. The router claims not to be connected to the Internet. Clients don't see Asus' down notice anymore, and DNS seems to work again, however it seems sluggish. stubby backs off in doubling...

    Robust DNS Settings

I don't think this is a Google DNS problem. I think my ISP has a problem with Google DNS. I checked with neighbors and they also see Google DNS not reachable. However if I connect via VPN or use my cell connection, Google DNS works fine. I called my ISP, Gigamonster, and the customer support is...
