    Asuswrt-Merlin 384.8 is now available

I think source code is typically released after the compiled code. It can be a month or more sometimes.

what happens if I disable UPnP?

I don't think we would be having this conversation if upnp was well implemented. Maybe it is fine today. But that was not always the case. Otherwise, there would be no question as to its security or lack of. It was created to make something easier for the masses, not to make anything more...

Unable to use AC66_B1/AC68 U as a reliable media bridge (solved)

A 20 minute ping test was successful. I can finally use my RT-AC68R as a media bridge. Update: after less than 24 hours, the media bridge became unusable. I will try again this weekend and see what additional information I can get out of the experiment.

Unable to use AC66_B1/AC68 U as a reliable media bridge (solved)

Excellent, John! I have wanted to use my RT-AC68R as a media bridge, but only the RT-N66U has been stable. Later tonight, I will give your build a try.

How to access RT-AC68U web GUI when acting as a media bridge?

Media Bridge mode is not special with regard to accessing the web-ui. Rather than trying to use DHCP and manually assign an IP to the media bridge from the router, why not just manually assign an IP to the media bridge? This example may not be an RT-AC68U, but it works the same as for the...

IFTTT - how much do you care about security?

The primary function of your router is to secure your network from the outside world. Secondary function is acting as a bridge for your wireless devices. Everything else is to add value to the primary and secondary functions. If you compromise #1, you might as well get a handful of public...

    Netgear R7800-X4S Firmware 1.0.2.60

Agree. I had terrible results until Voxel crafted his custom 61SF build. Went back to 54SF while I waited.

    Netgear R7800-X4S Firmware 1.0.2.60

Apparently, Netgear does ZERO internal testing of firmware before release. Or, an obvious bug is not worth fixing until some number of customers complain.

Best wireless router with fast CPU for high VPN throughput?

Huh? Linux and Windows are not consider to be desktop OS?

RT-N66U as Media Bridge: fails some times

My N66 works very well as a media bridge as long as I don't use the RT-AC68 as the router. Frequent dropouts and packet loss on the 5GHz band. I think the issue is related to the new firmware supporting AiMesh. When I use the R7800, everything is perfect. Latency is a few milliseconds higher...

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.60SF

Straight from Advanced Setup, Wireless Settings, Help Center: "Enable Router's PIN" "You can configure the router's wireless settings or add a wireless client through WPS using the router's PIN only when the PIN is enabled." If you uncheck "Enable Router's PIN", that disables WPS.

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.60SF

This release from Voxel is due to 1.0.2.58 release from Netgear being nearly unusable. Voxel .59SF based on Netgear .58 is broken. Voxel .60SF based on Netgear .52 not broken. We can only hope the next release from Netgear is better.

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.7 Beta is now available

I think you are missing the point of the Asuswrt-Merlin project. Eric (aka Merlin) fixes bugs when/where possible and to a limited degree, has improved the Asus firmware. This is not the "how to hack my Asus router to make it do anything I want" forum. There are other projects, like DD-WRT...

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.60SF

Try going to the OpenWRT forums and ask your question. Unless someone here contributes to the OpenWRT project, you probably won't get any answers. FYI - LEDE does not exist anymore. Announcing the OpenWrt/LEDE merge As of January 2018, both the OpenWrt and LEDE projects agreed to re-merge...

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.60SF

Just want to report that the latest build, 1.0.2.60SF is working very well. Here are the results of a ping test from my 2.4GHz client to the router and also to the media bridge which is connected via 3 streams on the 5GHz band. Almost identical results is surprising considering the extra hop...

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.59SF

1.0.2.54SF As I stated in a previous post, 54SF does not have the problem, so it is a reasonable version to run until Voxel builds a new release using the WiFi bits from stock 1.0.2.52.

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.59SF

The R7800 is very good with 1.0.2.54SF. I don't use OpenVPN, but I believe Voxel has put effort into making it better with his firmware, so it should be fine. I rarely use my RT-AC68U any more because the R7800 is so much better.

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.59SF

    Ran a longer test was for 5000 pings. Surprised more pings were not lost. Still not a very good result. 1.0.2.59SF # of pings < 10ms: 4658 | 93.2% # of pings < 20ms: 182 | 3.6% # of pings < 30ms: 43 | 0.9% # of pings < 40ms: 15 | 0.3% # of pings < 50ms: 13 | 0.3% #...

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.59SF

Only for 2.4GHz at this time since my 5GHz client is Windows just to make things more difficult. This test is for 1000 pings at one ping per second which is more than 15 minutes. The results are very consistent for each firmware version. I will try a longer test with the 1.0.2.59SF firmware...

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.59SF

It was a ping test that makes me "think" I am having a problem. I did not post the results because I want to represent the problem in a better way and not just show that some packets got dropped. Histograms, latency vs time, etc. Is watching syslog the only way to collect more information...
