    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.59SF

As part of my testing, I reset after changing firmware every time. Resetting did not change the behavior for me, so I think it is OK to revert back to 54SF without a reset.

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.59SF

Intermittent high latency and packet loss on both radios (problem occurs on both radios at the same time) is new as of this release. Until now, I have had ZERO issues with my R7800 which is so much better than my trusty RT-AC68R. Reverting back to 1.0.2.54SF for now. I am very confident the...

Work Around/FIX for Wireless Bridge losing connection every 24hrs

No different than two switches connected by some type of uplink (ethernet, fiber, coax, etc).

Work Around/FIX for Wireless Bridge losing connection every 24hrs

In my case, I have not noticed any issues with my RT-N66U (using the latest official Asus build) as a media bridge connecting to my R7800. However, I put my RT-AC68U back into service to try the newer build from Merlin and noticed periodic loss of connectivity of the media bridge. It would fix...

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.54SF

It is surprisingly good. No complaints here. Plus, we have people like Voxel and Kamoj who make it even better.

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.54SF

I approve of this message. The factory layout of debug.htm is very simplistic with almost no formatting. Would it be possible to add some basic html that puts things into columns/tables and maybe with some labels? Nothing too fancy. I have been thinking about doing it myself since learning...

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.54SF

net-wall? Delta Networks? Not what I was expecting. Thanks for the feedback, Voxel.

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.54SF

There is not a single occurrence of the word "firewall" that I can find in the web-ui. There is "Secure NAT" and "Port Forwarding", but not much else. The marketing material on Netgear's website claims the R7800 to have a stateful packet inspection firewall plus NAT. I assume that it is...

    ASUS RT-N66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.382.50702

The flaw in WPA2 that was recently discovered did affect Media Bridge mode due to it acting as a wireless client. Otherwise, yes, you are correct. Not having a device exposed to the internet does mostly eliminate the need for future security updates.

    ASUS RT-N66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.382.50702

Up for 9 days now as a Media Bridge with no problems to report. It is unfortunate that Merlin is no longer supporting the older MIPS models (for very good reasons), but as long as Asus releases updates that don't break things, might as well stay current with security patches.

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 is now available

The installable firmware is available, but not the source code required by Merlin to release an update for the RT-AC87U. It may be a few weeks before the source code is available which means the next release from Merlin should have an update for your router.

Do I really need to reset the router to factory defaults when upgrading firmware?

Most of the time, the answer is "no". There are sometimes changes in newer firmware that are not compatible with previous versions requiring a reset. If you upgrade the firmware and everything works, no reset required. If you upgrade the firmware and have problems, it is advised to reset to...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 is now available

Don't use Asuswrt-Merlin. Install the stock firmware and have your WTFast. Problem solved.

Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.53SF/1.0.2.53SF-KF [Updated]

As long as Netgear is serious about addressing known vulnerabilities, VPNFilter is no more of a threat than any other. It is not using any special sauce to exploit devices, just taking advantage of poor configuration (default credentials) or published security advisories, as the experts have...

Deciding between Asus RT-AC68U and Netgear R7800

For my use case which is basic firewall and port forwarding plus wireless, the R7800 is the winner by far. I cannot speak for QoS which I do not use, but never has the R7800 struggled with managing connections due to torrents. The range and throughput over wireless is also much better. My...

    RT-AC5300 and RT-AC68U New Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.384.21140

The optimal way to accomplish my goal is to run a cable to an ethernet switch. I am just replacing the cable with three wireless-N streams. A wireless repeater or a mesh node would be even less optimal.

    RT-AC5300 and RT-AC68U New Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.384.21140

Media Bridge is for connecting older wireless devices (801.11b, 802.11g) and/or connecting devices without wireless interfaces to your network. It is a great use for older routers that have been retired.

    OpenWRT 18.06 Released!

Is it assumed that switching to OpenWRT will reduce the throughput of the router by not using the manufacturer's proprietary drivers?
