    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

There is no change in signal strength on my AX88U between 384.15 and 384.16_b3 as the wireless driver is the same - according to Merlin closed source. Unless Broadcom/Asus do not fix the driver I have no hope the situation will get any better. Thanks @Phil Outram for all his supportive work.

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.16 beta (and 384.13_5) are available

Dirty flash of my AX88U from 384.15 to 384.16_b3 - no add-on's, no specials. 5 Ghz not avail after upgrade/reboot - never happened before. I had to change the field under Wireless-General the "Channel Bandwidth" from "160" to "20/40/80/160" to get 5Ghz back to work. Since then stable even after...

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.16 beta (and 384.13_5) are available

Looks like an "emotional" topic - at least in my case I am using the same HW in the same spot I did recognize a drop in 2.4 Ghz Wifi performance and reach during version change - started with 384.14. And I can demonstrate the changes via up- and downgrade of the FW. And we also read various...

    RT-AX88U new firmware 3.0.0.4.384_8018

Any experience on the 2.4 Ghz Wireless driver? Any update or still low signal as on the previous version?

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

After 8+ days of uptime on 384.15 I just did a downgrade to 384.13 because of the weak 2.4Ghz signal. I've been hovering back and forth, could have gone to 384.14 too but .13 was previously somewhat rock solid. For me it is more than obvious that there was some significant change on the driver...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.15 (and 384.13_4) are now available

:) 2+ days up and running stable on 384.15 on my AX88U :) Thank you Merlin and team!!

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.15 Beta and 384.13_3 are now available

Thanks for your feedback and wortwhile checking - I have no WPA3 enabled but can try to drop network and reconnect the devices to see if something changes!

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.15 Beta and 384.13_3 are now available

Excellent question - as fasr as I can tell signal goes away and comes back after few seconds. this is on various Android devices - Mobiles and Tablets, regardless if Android 9 or 10.

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.15 Beta and 384.13_3 are now available

WOW - that's what I expected. As said apart from a dirty upgrade nothing has changed. Maybe I did not recognize the dropouts before - in any way, great work and as the drivers are closed items from ASUS there is not much you can do. For now I did not downgrade :-)

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.15 Beta and 384.13_3 are now available

Same here on my AX88U - while Alpha-1 was super stable I am seeing intermittent drop-outs on Beta-1 - nothing has changed on the config side. Unfortunately there is also nothing in the logs either. The only way to recognize is when lying on the sofa surfing suddenly connection is gone and coming...

[384.15_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

How did you figure 5Ghz was unstable? Anything in the logs that would prove an issue?

[384.15_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

... maybe that's the explanation - the un-changed code module has been moved a couple of lines up and down in the overall source code and therefore the lower signal?? :)

[384.15_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

Quick update - changed the never-before-touched timeout default to 20 minutes and log out is working since then. I cannot tell, if it is 20 minutes down to the second but working at least.

[384.15_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

Just checked on mine - it is set default to 30 minutes - coming back after 50 minutes to the open browser session I was still logged on/in, not kicked out and having to log in as with previous versions. ...

[384.15_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

Yes - that works - but previously I was logged out after XX minutes and had to re-login when returning - this does not seem to work anymore

[384.15_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

Confirmed - seeing the same behaviour on my AX88U - unless I close the browser I will not get locked out as it was with previous versions of the FW.

[384.15_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

I can confirm the inital weaker signal on 2.4 Ghz (while 5Ghz seems to be stronger) - I was able to mitigate a bit by switching off Wifi Agile Multiband and Protected Management Frames.

[384.15_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

5+ days uptime on latest AX88U Alpha with no suprises and lots of joy :) Like I stated before this Alpha works - at least for me - much better, especiall wireless, than 384.14. Looking forward to formal release soon :)
