    ad blocking on the router

I finally got the router based version running. Never could get the consolidated block host file to successfully save and remain after reboot on the router itself, and instead changed the script to write and read everything off a file folder created on a connected USB drive instead. Log...

ASSUS RT-AC66U crashes about once per day

I see similar entries, but mine 'seem' to be related to some sort of WAN connection loss or something. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

    Firmware upgrade or downgrade clarity

Searched a bit, but could not find any clarity on the process. Upgrade Questions: Currently running johns 374 _07 fork. Are there any summersaults I need to do to do if I want to upgrade to Stock or Merlins versions of 376 or 378 series? I'm reading about new CFEs and such, and didn't know...

Asus locking down routers to comply with new FCC rules

Unfortunately you might find the ASUS and the Nighthawk might be similar. I've read that manufacturers can have a few approaches to the FCC DFS issue. They can make the DFS channels or those near them unselectable in the GUI. Even if the channels are or are not selectable, the FCC (and I...

    Resetting Asus RT-AC66U

Turn off the Router. While holding down the WPS button, turn on the power, still holding the WPS button for about 8-10 seconds. One of the lights will start trembling (I can't remember which) and then you can let the WPS button go. Router access IP and username/password will be again at...

Cannot rest my RT-AC68R to factory setting

This has worked for me. With the router off, hold the WPS button and turn the router on, still holding the WPS button for about 10 secs. One of the lights (can't remember which one) will start trembling during the hold process, then you can release the WPS button.

    AC87RT - 5G Not working!

Some things to try (if similar to my AC68): In the professional tab, Regulation Mode try d, or h, or d+h Try specifically setting channels and bandwidths: Say 20Mhz on any of the channels. Try the lower (two digit channels) at 20, or 40, or 80 Try the Upper (three digit channels) at 20, or 40...

Asus RT-AC66U issues connecting to 5 ghz band

Loaded it just for giggles, but did not see any log entries, despite some signal loss/shutoff events occurring. That said, I was only looking at the log (General and Wireless) screens in the GUI. I have not set up, nor know how to any other logging capability. I think I ran across some...

Asus RT-AC66U issues connecting to 5 ghz band

Yeah, and that was 7 years ago.... FCC implemented some definitive rules in 2010, if I recall. Some interesting excerpts from that paper that caught my eye. A lot of folks seem to miss this point, or believe you need to be selected on a DFS channel in the router GUI in order to apply/comply...

Asus RT-AC66U issues connecting to 5 ghz band

Which is what I was discussing on post #71 and #74, that I have not observed any active channel switching notification/action to clients, but I did observe when set to auto, it went to 165 (instead of default 149 - I assume registering internally that 149 at >40Mhz bandwidth detected...

Asus AC68U How many AC-80MHz channels

Just to be clear, the signal shuts off. Here is an EARLY video I took when I first was trying to figure what was going on.... http://vid154.photobucket.com/albums/s257/kenhdog/General/AC66_5G_Channel_drop_zpsh1wiibex.mp4 At that time, the B/W was set to 20/40/80. Since that video, and testing...

Asus RT-AC66U issues connecting to 5 ghz band

Not entirely correct. Forgive me, I though my table above and the channel chart I annotated, just below it, were pretty clear that anything I've shown in GREEN is usable. That would be: 20Mhz Bandwidth on ALL Channels, lower and upper (UN-3), and 165 ISM 40Mhz Bandwidth on all the lower...

Asus RT-AC66U issues connecting to 5 ghz band

Latest characterizations of *my channel stability* *applicable to MY location, US, near a municipal airport, Naval Bases, Local Harbor and, nearby Range Control sensors. (not sure which one, might cause the what I believe is DFS interference processing) another view I edited with green the...

Asus AC68U How many AC-80MHz channels

Did a quick read of that guide. It seems the coexistence discussion is geared toward multiple network co-existence. There aren't any additional 5G networks as I can scan/identify around me, so not sure that directly applies. I'm still reading it, but didn't find any indepth discussion on radar...

Asus AC68U How many AC-80MHz channels

Thanks jegs. Running out the door, but will read it when I get back. I also posted a response to your and wouterv responses, which were lost also... :( The gist was I connected up a couple of clients, and I did not witness any active channel notification and switch actions, during the signal...

Asus AC68U How many AC-80MHz channels

What he said... Channels 149, 153, 157, and 161, are all near the DFS region of channels, and have to conform to the FCC regs on TDWR or military freq interference. In my local area, in those channels, I've only had up to 40Mhz bandwidth on either 157 or 161 (channel pairs), with any degree of...
