    Mesh or second router?

I set the router into AP mode. When you do that you can set the router's ip as dynamic or static (I used static) and hit apply. With the fixed ip I can always reach the router web gui directly. I think that's what you want? P.S. There are other threads here which show using the WAN port in AP...

    Mesh or second router?

LOL! Literally just did the same thing last week (EBAY, wrapped, $85, Voxel). Works perfect as new AP. Was already a great router, amazing for the price you can get them now.

Strange issue with Arris TM1602AP2 and R7800

@R. Gerrits thank you - this is a new thing to try. I will attempt this as time and family permit and will again report back.

Strange issue with Arris TM1602AP2 and R7800

It's now half a year later and I'm still spending time here and there to try to fix this issue. The main issue is that the router seems to start in bridge mode (not router) for the first 30 seconds or so as it's booting-up. This appears to allow all the connected devices on the lan to directly...

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.79SF

Great work Voxel, thank you!. I came home from vacation to find my R7800 bricked likely due to a lightning strike power spike (among a list of damaged things). tftp flashed your .79 onto it and I have a clean refreshed router. Should see in a couple of days if the power spike caused side effects...

[R7800] RAE, cloudfront ??? Netgear snitch?

Sounds great, my general point was I like stopping first then marking non-execute, that's all. If it works already then moot point.

[R7800] RAE, cloudfront ??? Netgear snitch?

you should do the stop *before* you make the script non-execute

    Kamoj Kamoj add-on V5 for Netgear R7800 X4S and R9000 X10

In fact they are probably both right, just different measures of the 'business' of the router. I was just confirming that I also had an average of 4 and nothing more. Much love for @kamoj's addon.

    Kamoj Kamoj add-on V5 for Netgear R7800 X4S and R9000 X10

If I run 'uptime' I get "15:03:30 up 46 days, 4:35, load average: 4.00, 4.03, 4.04", so it looks like 4 is a reasonable load average. (uptime & top show the same values)

[R7800] RAE, cloudfront ??? Netgear snitch?

It's my experience that only what you call Solution 4 *actually* solves the problem of these 'extra' processes. That said, I don't know for certain how thorough Kamoj's option is. Setting NVRAM options only works if the programs which use them respect them or are not upgraded to ignore them. For...

    Aegis aegis: a firewall blocklist

Fully upgraded and working great!. Thanks @HELLO_wORLD for all your work! FWFW: I'm using 'aegis -v status -html' to get the full output and this works great.

[R7800] RAE, cloudfront ??? Netgear snitch?

If I were to guess - they support a USB printer attached to the router. Bonjour/mDNS is the apple discovery protocol for printers. using strings against KC_BONJOUR basically confirms this as the multicast IP address for mDNS is in there among other confirming strings like 'Hewlett Packard' and...

    Aegis aegis: a firewall blocklist

You should then be able to install the iprange utility, it's a separate install from the firewall itself. At the bottom of the Readme are the directions to install iprange if you want to.

    Aegis aegis: a firewall blocklist

Even without iprange the blocklist should still be working. try running: aegis status you should see something like 'set and active' and also 'Filtering <x> addresses'. I know that he has an iprange that should work on R9000 but I have the R7800 so can't help there. I would wait for a reply...

    Aegis aegis: a firewall blocklist

I also think a symlink might be better. It instantly works the moment it's created.

Who's running adblocking on there router?

I've been using HELLO_wORLD's blocking method since it was first available. I'm using it with the default firehol lists to block malware/bad actors. I've installed the extra util iprange, easy & no issues. I like the fact it is not over-engineered. Will try his new named version when available.

[R7800] RAE, cloudfront ??? Netgear snitch?

update FWIW: It is now roughly a month with aws-iot[in /usr/sbin], streamboost[in /etc/init.d], traffic_meter[in /sbin] and streamboost_status_mon[in /usr/sbin] all disabled. The running processes were killed and the executables were modified with chmod -x to be non-executable even if called...
