Improve House Wifi / Keep Existing Router?

Thanks Tim. I was actually going to try to PM you today requesting that they be removed because it had spontaneously and unintentionally evolved into a two person back and forth side discussion completely unrelated to the forum and thread topics.

    Don't understand 2.5

Yes. In the Asus router settings you can set the 2.5GbE port as either a LAN or WAN port. It will work with other 2.5GbE ports and it should be backward compatible with devices using 1Gbps Ethernet ports. So set it up as you like and use it like a regular Ethernet port.

    AX86U 5Ghz performance with Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz client

I thought I would mention this... I recently did the free upgrade that was offered via Windows notifications with my one year old Intel i7 based notebook from Windows 10 to Windows 11. I am not sure about whether the Wifi performance has changed but so far I really like the new interface and...

    AX86U sighting

It's not bad luck. Call Asus technical support and report your problems. They could tell you if they had a bad production run. Otherwise they could once again walk you through a step by step process, maybe read logs and try to determine what's going on. I've gone through these kinds of problems...

    AX86U sighting

Dropping internet with the first AX86U. Dropped Kernel and CPU crash on a new out of the box replacement AX86U? Seriously... How many other AX86U forum users have we read that this has happened to in the past year and a half or for that matter in the last month? I am not saying it didn't...

Improve House Wifi / Keep Existing Router?

I value my time and energy more than the money... Driving back and forth to do the exchanges, going into the store, waiting in line, waiting for the employee to check in the old equipment, give you credit for the exchange, charge for the new equipment, then the time to set everything up again...

    AX86U sighting

The experience should be closer to "plug and play" and not "plug and pray".

    AX86U 5Ghz performance with Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz client

I have read that many forum users force 160Mhz with good results. I have my AX86U 5Ghz settings using mostly default except use WPA2 instead of WPA2/3. The current 5Ghz performance surpasses the speed of my internet many times. I don't need high speed access to other clients on my LAN so range...

    AX86U 5Ghz performance with Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz client

I don't normally check my own Wifi performance results very often but I thought I would to get some feedback from other AX86U fourm users and compare to what others using Intel AX or other clients are getting. The notebook client is two large rooms away from the AX86U router. There is a thick...

Improve House Wifi / Keep Existing Router?

Ha! Nice double switch @LexLuthor. You're not someone who is afraid to get exactly what you want for the right price and there is nothing wrong with that if you don't mind all that effort. We will see how long this one lasts. ;)

    AX86U sighting

@DarkKnight75 Please stay with the stock Asus firmware for at least a month or two. Configure it to your liking and make sure the new AX86U works perfectly for you before thinking about making any changes.

    Upgrade to AX86U

You got it. More router options are on the way and the AX86U will still be an option for you if you decide to wait.

    Upgrade to AX86U

In my opinion the AX86U is the best router ever made by Asus. It's reliable and a great performer. As mentioned by user bbunge temps are not a problem at all. If you already have an AC86U that is working well for you then you should still see some improvement in range and performance with the...

Improve House Wifi / Keep Existing Router?

I'm not sure why you would bother downgrading from AX86U to AX68U but either way it should be an upgrade from the AC68U. The AX68U is a different design with different internal components and lower specs. It will be interesting to see how well it's reliability holds up over time. Often with...

What is the better purchase between the AX88U and AX86U?

Go back and read my post more carefully. I said "If" you are disgruntled about it then.... I didn't say that you "were" disgruntled about it. I was simply being polite by expressing to you my support for your free choice of options. I didn't want you to feel my advice should pressure you at all...

    RT-AX86U Initial Setup Recommendations

Yes, That's what I do. Under the LAN tab you can also change your IP address from the default of 192.168.50.1 to 192.168.1.1 or whatever your preference is. This doesn't really matter unless you have clients on your network already set up that require that you use a particular IP range. You...

    RT-AX86U Initial Setup Recommendations

Update the new AX86U with the latest stock Asus firmware. When you set it up the new router already requests to do this. Run mostly default settings with first setup. Default settings usually work fine with these latest Asus routers. Changing too many settings from default does not always mean...

    Best AX86U firmware (no issues)

If I use AiMesh I will remember your advise. It is actually good information to know. Meanwhile I also am keeping my AX86U despite the ISP's faulty cable internet service dropping intermittently. ;)
