TAILMON TAILMON v1.0.20 -July 27, 2024- WireGuard-based Tailscale Installer, Configurator and Monitor (THREAD #1 CLOSED)

Reaching here, but have you tried a complete entware uninstall removal and then entware reinstall, followed by the Tailmon install? i.e. not an entware repair, but a full on entware uninstall, removal?

Assign Device Names in System-Wireless Log specifically for AIMesh Nodes? And change AIMesh Host Name

Another recent thread pointed me to an older thread which suggested you can modify the AIMesh IP address based on the MAC (which as noted above, still puzzlingly seems to be an Ethernet one, even though I have a wireless backhaul) and this does indeed work. I assigned it 192.168.9.3, rebooted...

Asus AiMesh Node static IP assignement

Hi somewhat related is something I’ve been trying to do here, but even after I assigned the node an IP address using the MAC address, it didn’t change the IP. Looking at your referenced thread I think it’s because the node (at least mine) is using an Ethernet MAC even though it’s a wireless...

Assign Device Names in System-Wireless Log specifically for AIMesh Nodes? And change AIMesh Host Name

So, being curious about what would happen to the wireless log naming if I manually assigned an IP Address to the known MAC address, I went ahead and did that. Bearing in mind that the mesh node is on 192.168.9.29 as assigned by the main mesh router, my trial was to see if I assigned an IP...

TAILMON TAILMON v1.0.20 -July 27, 2024- WireGuard-based Tailscale Installer, Configurator and Monitor (THREAD #1 CLOSED)

Hmmm. I’m going to have to defer to Viktor (on leave) or Colin for what might be happening here. Did you have a look at the wiki uninstall approach btw? https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin.ng/wiki/Installing-Tailscale-through-Entware#uninstalling-tailscale btw the reason I suggested also...

TAILMON TAILMON v1.0.20 -July 27, 2024- WireGuard-based Tailscale Installer, Configurator and Monitor (THREAD #1 CLOSED)

I recall this comment by @ColinTaylor from the testing phase: If you're going to remove the /var/run/tailscale and /var/lib/tailscale directories then it's only logical to remove the corresponding /opt/var/run/tailscale and /opt/var/lib/tailscale directories also. (ColinTaylor) Maybe delete...

Assign Device Names in System-Wireless Log specifically for AIMesh Nodes? And change AIMesh Host Name

OK, thank you, I think I understand that. OK This is where I am a little bit unsure what will happen if I try; the IP Address is assigned by the Router at the time the AIMesh Node is added, so I know what it is, but I am a wee bit nervous that if I now (on the LAN DHCP Manual Assignment Page)...

Assign Device Names in System-Wireless Log specifically for AIMesh Nodes? And change AIMesh Host Name

That is correct 👍🏼 From the Router. It’s where I’d like it to show the name of the Node in the Router Wireless Log. You noted you don’t use AIMESH but FYI the nodes do not have a usable WebGui, you can only update the FW, change Jumbo Frames, that’s it.

Assign Device Names in System-Wireless Log specifically for AIMesh Nodes? And change AIMesh Host Name

    Oops. From the Wireless log. Node is connected wirelessly. Wireless 2.4GHz 04:42:1A:58:0F:A1 <unknown> 130 / 216 Mbps -56 dBm 6:30:33 2 (ax) 20MHz _STMAU Wireless 5 GHz 04:42:1A:58:0F:A4 <unknown> <unknown> 272 / 612 Mbps -65 dBm 6:30:35 4 (ax) 160MHz _STMAU

Assign Device Names in System-Wireless Log specifically for AIMesh Nodes? And change AIMesh Host Name

My apologies, I captured the ifconfig from the Main Router not the Mesh node. Attached is the log from the node. It does contains 04:42:xx references, quite a few of them. Hopefully some further info that gives you a clue? k.

Assign Device Names in System-Wireless Log specifically for AIMesh Nodes? And change AIMesh Host Name

TBH, I do not really know, sorry. I did that, maybe you can see something here but I cannot see any 04:42 etc device? Thank you for looking at this :-).

Assign Device Names in System-Wireless Log specifically for AIMesh Nodes? And change AIMesh Host Name

Apologies for the wee bump, but was thinking about whether this is just something that cannot be done as the nodes are set up by Asus AIMESH which Merlin notes is closed source. Or is there still some way to issue a command via the CLI which would make the Wireless log recognize the node beyond...

Alternative to Pastebin and replacing MAC Addresses with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx automatically?

To get a more robust regex solution than my simple "..:..:..:" effort, I asked the question on stackexchange and got a few different answers, summarised below. Just use the Find and Replace strings in Notepad++ per the post above...

Alternative to Pastebin and replacing MAC Addresses with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx automatically?

It's really just for posting logs TBH, so (maybe mistakenly?) I thought as the first 3 are vendor as you point out, it's nothing you need to hide, whereas all 6 make it specific?

Alternative to Pastebin and replacing MAC Addresses with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx automatically?

Was just mulling whether, for troubleshooting purposes, it would be more useful to add a regex that retains the FIRST 3 Octets of the MAC address and replaces only the LAST 3 Octets with 'XX' e.g.AA:22:CC:44:EE:66 becomes AA:22:CC:XX:XX:XX. Would anyone know what the regex would be to achieve...

Alternative to Pastebin and replacing MAC Addresses with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx automatically?

Right you are, very simple too. In Notepad++ (similar to in VSC): The Find expression is: "..:..:..:..:..:.." (without quotes) The Replace expression is: "XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX" (without quotes) Quick Steps: Install Notepad++. See download link below. Open the log file you downloaded from your...

Alternative to Pastebin and replacing MAC Addresses with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx automatically?

Thanks to @XIII I got it to do what I wanted to do. Visual Studio Code (VSC) has a relatively easy way to handle regex for this particular example. I did a few screenshots if anyone wants to do this in future (in Windows), using VSC. In VSC: The Find expression is: "..:..:..:..:..:.."...

SSID QR Code validity after hard reset but using same SSID Password when setup again?

I checked the forums and googled but not too clear on what happens here. I think this is probably applicable to stock and Merlin but I use Merlin so I thought I'd ask here, I'm thinking of doing a hard reset (for other reasons) but I have a few QR codes printed out and nicely laminated around...

Alternative to Pastebin and replacing MAC Addresses with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx automatically?

Thank you, I did think about search replace but when there are multiple MAC addresses it’s a bit cumbersome, hence the thought that there must be some regex expression which would find and replace a pattern; or better yet a Win utility that does the same, acting on a text file. I actually found...
