wifi6, easymesh, mixed brands, what standard?

Cross brand mesh standards just don't seem to have gained enough support to be a valid consideration. Yet anyway.

Brand new RT-AX86U, slow wired ports (more accurately, slow speedtests)

Here's another reference thread. Also full of Tech9's warnings, which I'd advise respecting at least until others weigh in. I'm not expert enough to judge. https://www.snbforums.com/threads/disable-stp-in-stock.73676/

Brand new RT-AX86U, slow wired ports (more accurately, slow speedtests)

I think so. Here is an example: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/disable-spanning-tree-protocol.8655/ To get the specific variables for your router, SSH to the router and use the following command: nvram show | grep stp On my RT-AX86U the values are lan_stp and lan1_stp. Please somebody...

    Do you use reboot schedular

I used a RT-AC66U for years, until recently. Been running ASUSWRT-MERLIN 374 LTS for a while now. It's a good firmware. But after a few days if I'd tend to get clients that misbehaved and needed to be disconnected and reconnected. So just to simplify my life, I scheduled a daily reboot at 4am...

Brand new RT-AX86U, slow wired ports (more accurately, slow speedtests)

Out of curiosity, what HW revision is your reliable AC86U? In case I end up going that way. Thanks

Brand new RT-AX86U, slow wired ports (more accurately, slow speedtests)

Yep. Michigan and Marietta Georgia are the only two with 10 in stock now. The Ohio store sold one. Guess I'm easily entertained to be checking Microcenter stock levels :p

Brand new RT-AX86U, slow wired ports (more accurately, slow speedtests)

My AX86U is HW Rev 1.0. Uptime now 9 days 9 hours. Guessing something different in the settings and/or environment between here and there but don't know what. Only 3 Microcenters have 10 AX86Us in stock. Every other store has less, or none like mine.

Installing switch between AC86U and desktops

Huh. Actually I wanted just the opposite. There is heavy traffic between those devices on my network and I wanted it to occur locally on the switch without having to traverse the wireless router. So no the devices aren't isolated from each other at all by a simple switch.

Installing switch between AC86U and desktops

This is basically how I set mine up. I ran one cable from the cablemodem to the wireless router wan port then another cable back from one of the wireless router lan ports to a Ubiquiti UniFi Switch 8 that my other devices plug into. I originally did it to position the wireless router for better...

What is best firmware for the R7000?

The R7000 2.4Ghz is rated double the RT-AC56U and 5Ghz 50% faster/more bandwidth. So yeah it's got newer generation components that should do better. Everything I've ever read says that for performance reasons you want to stick with the original Netgear firmware because it supports hardware NAT...

Brand new RT-AX86U, slow wired ports (more accurately, slow speedtests)

I played with the Asus Android app when I first got the AX86U and later found it had enabled QOS on the router without me realizing it. Just sayin double check settings like that just to be sure.

    AX86U sighting

Thanks for the sanity check. I feel better after reading that. Speaking of stability. I still have a Linksys E2000 router serving as a wireless bridge. I tend to forget it's there. It's running Toastmam Tomato and just never fails. I logged into it the other day to change it from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz...

I think that I still have a WRT54GS in my basement. Or is it a WRT54GL? One of those...

    AX86U sighting

Weird. My AX86U is now 4 days 10 hours uptime. If it crashed then I could buy the cheaper AC86U. I'm fundamentally super cheap so would like that ;-D I do have a little heartburn reading about these unexplained crashes and issues connecting Google, Sonos etc devices. The only issue I saw so...

    AX86U sighting

Just like nearly every wireless router from the last decade is supposed to be able to run 2.4Ghz at 40Mhz. But in my experience, most people don't and go 20Mhz instead to get the best range. Looks like you do this as well. In my case, the AX86U seems to be exceeding my Internet service speed...

    AX86U sighting

Not clear to me what you mean by "nothing attached to either of the 2 units I briefly". Do you mean wireless clients? USB devices? I have 25 clients and have switched the majority to 5Ghz now. The 5Ghz on my old AC66U didn't provide good coverage so nearly everything was on 2.4Ghz. The AX68U...

    AX86U sighting

My new AX86U has been up for 3 days 18 hours now with no noticable problems. I set the 2.4Ghz to channel 11 width 20Mhz. I left the 5Ghz on auto and it's now on channel 153 width 80Mhz. I actually don't think that most of my 5Ghz clients even support 160Mhz width. So if I forced the router to...
