RP-AX58: Poor speeds using AiMesh but ok in Access Point mode

Correct! Thank you Tech9!! I was too quick there. Protected Management Framework should be set to Capable, not Enable as above. So, to have it in one place: All nodes should support 802.11k and 802.11v (which RT-AX58U does). If not, the roaming will be somewhat slower, but it works. Switch...

    XT12 + RP-AX58 band usage question

If you use an RP-AX58U as an AImesh node it will use the 5 GHz band for backhaul as well as for client connections. The available wifi speed will be half of what you will get if you use it with an ethernet cable as backhaul.

RP-AX58: Poor speeds using AiMesh but ok in Access Point mode

It does NOT make sense. AImesh is just a marketing gimmick. The only advantage you get is that you can configure all nodes from the router. Using APs, they need to be configured separately. By using APs instead of AImesh you get the advantages that you can use different Wifi bands for the...

    Mastiff: Init every 30 seconds?

I browsed through both links you sent. Lots of stuff..... I may have misunderstood something, but it was written that performance MAY be reduced with 20 % in some cases. Is that what you mean?

    Mastiff: Init every 30 seconds?

Thanks MDM - tried search but probably not in all threads..... mea culpa!! So my conclusions are: it is a known issue and can be ignored since it doesn't do any harm if I want to get rid of the message, I can set the "Disable Asusnat tunnel" to Yes which MAY affect performance

    Mastiff: Init every 30 seconds?

I changed the "Log only messages more urgent than" from Notice to Warning a few days ago. This looked fine for a while. However after an automatic restart tonight around 03:30, I have started to get the message "Mastiff: init" about every 30 seconds or so. When I browse the log file, I can see...

RP-AX58: Poor speeds using AiMesh but ok in Access Point mode

Why not just use them in AP mode instead? Works just as well, maybe even better since you can use different wifi bands on your equipment. If you have a lot of clients it might make a difference.

    RT-AX88U poor network performance/speed

When / if you reconnect the AX56u's, do this through ethernet cables and set them up as APs. Use ports 1-4 on the AX-88U.

Dual WAN on XT12 using USB dongle

The XT12 doesn't have any USB ports where I can put the USB dongle. There are two ways as far as I understand: Use my unused AC66U_B1 which has Dual WAN capability. I could put a USB dongle in the AC66U_B1 and use it as primary WAN there, shut off the radios and connect the AC66U_B1 to the...

    ZenWifi XT12 HW issue ?

Aha.... searched some more, both within this forum and otherwere. Seems like a known issue. RT Throttling means Real Time throttling. No wonder it affects all connections since it has to do with the CPUs getting overloaded. Still haven't found a solution though.

    ZenWifi XT12 HW issue ?

So.... it happened again. Couldn't connect my PC with ethernet connection to the router. It took several minutes to connect correctly. In the meantime, all other clients lost internet. This is the same problem as before..... Is this an indication that I have a HW problem or is there something...

    Asus XT9 vs XT12

Correct glens, didn't consider that. If you use the 5GHz band on the AX88U as backhaul, you will not be able to use it for other clients. Personally, I prefer ethernet cables between router and APs / nodes.

    Asus XT9 vs XT12

You can use the AX88U as an AP or as a node in a mesh system. Just beware that the channels from 132 and up ARE NOT AVAILABLE in the current FW in EU. It has been allowed for use since 2019, but for some reason ASUS has decided NOT TO MAKE THEM AVAILABLE here. This was a major disappointment...

    Asus XT9 vs XT12

I got the XT12s at a sale. I expected to get both better range and performance and to be able to retire my two old APs in hard-to-reach corners of my house. The range is very similar - probably due to almost exactly the the same output power. The XT12 gives me 25 dBm (300 mW) as opposed to the...

ASUS XT12 no USB port problem (can't use some of amtm addons like diversion and so on)

Agree, something like that would be interesting....?

    ZenWifi XT12 HW issue ?

OK thanks! The issue seems to be gone...... I tested the router after installing the new stock FW and BEFORE doing the reset. It seemed to work fine, so I left it. Everything seemed to work except my two OpenVPN servers. Guess I need to see if I can live with one of them for a while until...

    ZenWifi XT12 HW issue ?

Should I just install the stock FW or should I do a factory reset first?

    ZenWifi XT12 HW issue ?

Thanks for the suggestion!f No, I haven't tried it yet. However I replaced the XT12 with the old router running Merlin 388_2.2. It took only a couple of minutes. This seems to work fine for now. Update: The morning after, the PCs still connect immediately as they should. However channel 128...

    Asus XT9 vs XT12

I don't know the XT9, but I do have XT12's. Both as a router and an as an AP. The performance of the XT12 is NOT better than my old RT-AX88U with around 30 wifi clients. I haven't been able to notice and measure any difference. Maybe there would be a difference if I had more wifi clients...

    ZenWifi XT12 HW issue ?

The latest Merlin firmware - 3004.388.5. Downloaded and installed on December 4th. I'm pretty sure the issue appeared before the upgrade. I thought it was a temporary glitch of some kind on my portable PC.
