    QNAP and VPN?

I have tried two VPN server setups: On my main router, an ASUS RT-AC3200. 2 cores@1 GHz, 256 MB of RAM. This provided better performance despite fewer cores, lower speed and very little RAM. The CPU usage on one of the cores increased from about 2-3 % to 40%. The other core seemed to be...

    QNAP and VPN?

So got it to work. Simplified like this: Transfer speed is 17 MB / second. 60 GBs was transferred in 1 hour 6 minutes. Will try with VPN once more now when I got this to work. Update: Tests completed. Resulting transfer speeds: - No VPN, no SSL. Open port 8899 (RTRR) on Mike's router ==> 17...

    QNAP and VPN?

Thanks! No error message really - just that it can't connect to NAS01. I get the same problem for both rsync and rtrr. You do mean that RTRR needs the admin account don't you? I have tried with different user names with rsync and it works - at least on my local network. I have cleaned up...

    QNAP and VPN?

I gave up om VPN. Tried the setup below: However didn't work either!! Couldn't create jobs to the remote NAS01. What am I doing wrong? Is it as simple as my port numbers here? Should I have used port numbers above 49 153? However I have used 10 001 - 10 006 for my cameras for several years...

    QNAP and VPN?

Before moving the old NAS to my brother-in-law I made some testing on my internal network. I synced a 2.5 GB file to the remote NAS and got the following results: Using internal IP addresses (ie no VPN server involved) ==> 17 MB / sec (disappointing - expected at least 45-50 MB / sec) Using the...

    QNAP and VPN?

I expect something like that. We'll see what happens. There will be a bottleneck somewhere, either the connection speed, the VPN server or something else. Really fun & interesting to try to figure this out and actually get it to work. If there are problems with the first backup, I will abort. I...

    QNAP and VPN?

So I got it to work both ways. Must have the OVPN client started on both NASes. My next step is a performance test. Will run a full backup just to see how it affects performance, particularly the router which is my current VPN server. Seems to increase its CPU load quite significantly. Maybe...

    QNAP and VPN?

Thanks!! Understand! I think..... Will try again tomorrow then. But..... how do I access my old NAS on his network through VPN? I can't use my old internal IP address. Do I use the static IP address assigned by his router, for example 10.0.1.75?

    QNAP and VPN?

Just tested to move my old NAS to my brother-in law's house. When connected to his internal network, I can connect through VPN to all devices on my own internal network. However NOT to my NAS which is connected to his internal network. It boots up OK. It gives a long beep after some minutes...

    QNAP and VPN?

Just one issue found: Seems there is no way to start the QVPN client when the NAS re-boots.

    QNAP and VPN?

Aha done! Just tested. Now it works. I can connect securely both to the routers admin page and other devices using the internal IP addresses when the OpenVPN connection has been established. So then I just need to figure out how to do this when I have moved my second NAS to my brother-in-laws...

    QNAP and VPN?

Thanks Callinc! OK understand, thanks for confirming my suspicions and that the .ovpn file can be edited. As you can see, I'm an amateur trying to learn ;-) So for my next test I will use the router as the server and test the setup with my phone disconnected from my local network. Interesting...

    QNAP and VPN?

Thank you for your answers!! I can run the OpenVPN server on either the RT-AC3200 router with Merlin (2x1 GHz and 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of swap space on a USB stick) or the new NAS (4x1.8.GHz and 8 GB of RAM). The router is normally below 10% CPU usage and about 60% RAM. The NAS is usually...

    QNAP and VPN?

I understand VPN is the best way to secure that I don't get hacked when accessing my private network from the outside. Setting up VPN seems to be simple enough. I have found good guides how to do it. I will probably install a OpenVPN server on my Asus RT-AC3200 router. However I have a few...

Tutorial How to setup a VPN Server with Asus routers 380.68 updated 08.24

Thanks a lot !! This is the best guide I have seen! Link saved. :) However it doesn't answer all of my questions. To be more specific: What happens to accesses within my network? I have devices such as cameras, alarms, switches, lamps etc. There are also smart TVs, apple TVs and other similar...

Tutorial How to setup a VPN Server with Asus routers 380.68 updated 08.24

Lots of detailed info here but far too much for me. I need to connect to my router (rt-ac3200 running the latest FW) from the outside. I try to open the WAN port under administration/system/remote access config. I set the radio button to Yes and press Apply. It seems to work, but after a few...

Is there a WiFi scanner that shows bandwidth

Cleared cache and rebooted. Then tried to installed again. Same result..... Searched for all files with winfi in the file name and found a lot of them. Deleted all of them (both directories and files). Re-started and re-installed. This time a large black window opened up. Something seems to...

Is there a WiFi scanner that shows bandwidth

Great tool as long as it worked...... However it has stopped working now. Re-install doesn't help. I get an icon in the task bar - that's all. No window is created. The only thing possible to do is to close the icon.

Lost power to my NAS - stupid!!

I have an UPS that works fine...... But I managed to pull the plug out from the backside of the NAS when rearranging some cables... Took a lot of hours until the NAS was up and running again. Fortunately it could be restored without having to resort to backups. Is there any good way to secure...
