    Internet Status: Disconnected?

While I think the issue was worse in later versions of the firmware, it existed for me before .12 . I had written a script to restart the firewall which seemed to clear it, though I don't think it was the firewall.

    Internet Status: Disconnected?

Awesome!! Now if we could only figure out WHY that fixes things we could help @RMerlin get a fix.

    Can I install Merlin remotely?

If you were running a recent merlin then I would say probably ok.. but since you are going from stock Asus firmware to merlin then you need to reset with defaults.. so it would lose connectivity. So with that in mind do you have a second way to get onto her network? This will disable the...

    Internet Status: Disconnected?

I've have the same issue but never been able to track it down.. I made a script that tries "firewall restart" and if that fails then a reboot. It just masks the issue. This is a sampling of how often it happens to me.. @RMerlin if you want anything collected when the issue happens let me know...

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

So even moving it to services-start didn't work. What did work was using "cru a" .. so both @dave14305 and @ColinTaylor were both right :) What a journey of discovery :) I'm sure my family will be glad the internet stops going away :) Thank you both for all the help!

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

From the wiki.. init-start Called right after JFFS got mounted, and before any of the services get started. This is the earliest part of the boot process where you can insert something. That might be too soon for logger to show up.. and if cron is not running yet.. hmmm..

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

ahh I was starting to wonder that :) Thank you for checking. I will test it in a little bit.

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

running it as /jffs/scripts/init-start worked fine.

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

It was created with vi inside the router and runs fine when ran manually. The logger does not show up in syslog unless ran manually.

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

    dave@RT-AC86U-49E8:/jffs/scripts# cat init-start #!/bin/sh logger "Dave crontab touched" echo "*/5 * * * * sh /jffs/scripts/firewall_watchdog.sh" >> /var/spool/cron/crontabs/dave

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

yes as I also use Skynet which requires it and works fine.

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

Interesting.. I had not seen that before. The problem is it does not seem to be running init-start at all as the logger I put in it didn't run either.

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

Interesting.. I added logger "XXXXX - Testing init-start" to the second line of my script above . and it didn't show up in the syslog when rebooted, but did show up when I ran init-start by hand. @RMerlin is init-start still valid or was it deprecated ?

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

Actually adding the init-start to /jffs/scripts/ didn't work on reboot. When I manually ran init-start it added fine, but it didn't seem to run on it's own on reboot. I was chmod 755 .. I'll put the simple thing below (init-start) #!/bin/sh echo "*/5 * * * * sh...

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

that works. I made an init-script in /jffs/scripts/ and it adds an entry to the crontab. Thanks for the help.

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

How do I add to cron from a script? Just add to the /var/spool/crontab/{USER} file?

my crontab entries disappear after a reboot

I made my own watchdog that runs from cron to check connections. The entry survives a firewall restart but not a reboot. How can I get my entry in crontab to survive a reboot?

[384.14_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

Try running /jffs/scripts/firewall restart when this happens. I get it a couple times a month, but have not been able to chase down what is the real cause. The firewall restart does more than just restart the IP tables.
