Policy based routing on Asus RT-AC86U not working as expected

Thanks that is interesting to hear it still worked. I have tried 2 other commercial VPNs both with different ports but both UDP but router still couldn't log in after 6hrs, required a power on/off to get it to log back in but internet was fine still. Both had different Local IPs especially last...

Policy based routing on Asus RT-AC86U not working as expected

Hi thanks for your reply, I was just curious rather then start a new thread with a similar issue I just wanted to confirm using 2 commercial VPN providers on the Asus router (86u) basically is not going to work right ? Just like ts I had issues with running 2 commercial VPN providers...

Asus 86u Router with Kill switch but want another!

Another one to assist here, a registry on and off switch to prevent control panel access in case a user changes or an external or unknown program modifies the network settings: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/70002-enable-disable-control-panel-settings-windows-10-a.html Not so much a kill...

Asus 86u Router with Kill switch but want another!

Nope, just genuinely prefer fail safes really :) Its kinda like 2 form factor authentication, most could probably do with just entering one password but that 2nd part gives peace of mind.

Asus 86u Router with Kill switch but want another!

Well more user error from myself or even a bad hacked firmware upgrade, software glitch etc But sure that is a valid point I guess no vpn can be 100% trusted.

Asus 86u Router with Kill switch but want another!

Not quite a secondary kill switch but its perhaps another option for the paranoid. https://gitlab.com/Marnes/public-ip-display firefox or chrome addon, which will notify you if your IP address changes. Did try to look for a windows 10 software which does the same but tried them but not as...

Double nat what problems could one get?

Thanks much appreciated for the advice, I have switched off uPnP all routers and no PF in my pfsense or Asus router, also block private and loop is checked under pfsense wan interface but great to know, will double check in the Asus router. I only have 1 computer connected to the entire network...

Double nat what problems could one get?

Hi I have my isp supplied Router in Router mode currently connected to my pfsense box, I use a VPN provider and also use torrent, normal internet. I hear the term double nat and its best avoided, you can have issues with port forwarding or websites or programs not loading. I currently prefer...

Openvpn+Bad packet id with any VPN provider

ok cheers for all the input, I know WireGuard Protocol fixes the issue 100% I described but its not so privacy friendly atm so prefer good ole Openvpn. I may actually give nordvpn a try and see if I have any joy with it.

Openvpn+Bad packet id with any VPN provider

Yes I thought at first switching off uTP solved the issue it certainly helped but only tempory for myself and others, the issue is still there with heavier testing. Badly worded, I meant its unusable since if I switch my VPN server from UDP to TCP protocol I get an 50-75% performance drop, so...

    pfSense computer bulid

I have been advised by someone else that you should switch off uPnP at your first router and second router if you are using OpenVPN and to set up your port forwarding from your VPN provider instead, otherwise you risk leaking your IP address. No sure if that is right or not though, I have run...

Asus 86u Router with Kill switch but want another!

I knew I should not have bought snagless design Ethernets cables ;) I still like 2-3 fail safes in life if the option is there. For example yesterday I was testing if an old Intel nic card was still working, my Asus router is set up with policy routing Strict with static ip but with the change...

Openvpn+Bad packet id with any VPN provider

Hmm quite strange, do you torrent often while under nord VPN with Openvpn protocol ? The problem is very erratic you could torrent say 5-6 times fine but then 2-3 times it will occur, oddly the video I made it happen on the first video. I'd guess most do not notice it since when they torrent...

    pfSense computer bulid

I was going to post a new question regarding double nat, I currently leave my isp supplied router in router mode connected to my Asus router or pfsense box since its handy to let family have internet while I test things out but I have disabled uPnP to stop any IP/Dns leaks from router to...

    pfSense computer bulid

ahh explains the AES difference, yeah will have to think things over nice to have 2 options but its tempting to go back to the Asus router where its so simple and works at a click :)

    pfSense computer bulid

Never heard of that unit but that is one impressive box of hardware, think its 2 x 3.1ghz max turbo clock also, probably means your good for 2+gig broadband :) I was eyeing this one here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133054967085?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&fromMakeTrack=true but that kettop...

Openvpn+Bad packet id with any VPN provider

That was one of the first settings I changed and it did help but the bad packets still persisted sadly. Tried linux and windows 10, 3 different machines (3 different nics), delunge, uttorent, qbittorent clients all with uTP switched off. VPN tech team felt it was to do with MTU and to try MSS...

Openvpn+Bad packet id with any VPN provider

Hi, I have had this issue with several VPN providers all with Openvpn and UDP protocol setting and with my ISP Virgin Media with its hub 3. The issue occurs with Torrents mainly but also with high speed test (speedtest sites) it basically causes my VPN providers Openvpn UDP performance to have...

    WireGuard worth the risk ?

thanks for all the input, its an interesting read and discussion, for now I will stick to openvpn but I may dabble with WG soon !

Asus 86u Router with Kill switch but want another!

I have my Asus 86u Router set up with my VPN provider, policy routing and "Block routed clients if tunnel goes down" ticked to give me a kill switch, it all works perfectly fine. Maybe its paranoia kicking in, but I always felt it's nice to have 2 or 3 fail-safe measures in place or at least...
