RT AX86U - Help me improving my latency please! Bufferbloat?

I feel your pain with VM, I was stuck with them for years. For latency, BT is the best. Vodafone FTTH is also good. I'm in central London and waiting for either Voda or BT. At present I am paying far too much to a "community" fibre company.

RT AX86U - Help me improving my latency please! Bufferbloat?

Ditch any ISP that uses cable modems. They are known for packet loss and buffer bloat, not to mention the increased latency from the modems themselves. A lot of cable ISP's use traffic shaping and huge contention ratios to make up for the shortcomings of the technology. You should always get...

Went to new Faster Internet Service, Wifi slower.

For WiFi 5 devices, the AX92u's only provide 2x2 streams (so around 400mb/s - 500mb/s). Their strong point is the 4 x 4 WiFi 6 band which will give those devices the full 1gbps if setup as advised. Even if you replaced the AX92u's for a node that offers 4 x 4 WiFi 5; unless you live in the...

RT AX86U - Help me improving my latency please! Bufferbloat?

Are you sure your line is 1000/30? No wonder you get bufferbloat. Change your line for something normal. Your upload should be at least 20% of your download.

    Release RT-AX92U Version 3.0.0.4.386.43084 released 6/3/21

I have been running Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.386_41712 for months. It's rock solid stable and very fast. Might be an idea to try that first. Having been burnt in the past, I always stay one firmware release behind. Jul 13 21:07:29 kernel: wl0: PSM microcode watchdog fired at 776668 (seconds)...

Went to new Faster Internet Service, Wifi slower.

My suggestion should work. Only other thing I can think of is there's a lot of AP's around causing interference or he's disabled beamforming.

Slower than expected WiFi speed on Asus AX11000

Have you set your AX band to "AX only"? If not AC and N devices will connect and slow it down.

Went to new Faster Internet Service, Wifi slower.

You need to set it up to use the full 160mhz channel width. In addition, you'll also need to set your AX92u's (AX6100) to share their AX backhaul channel with the clients. Also, setting the AX92u's to AX only will ensure it will only send wifi6 devices to the wifi6 channel. This will stop slower...

Slower than expected WiFi speed on Asus AX11000

My phone connects to my Ax92u at 1400mbps, if I run a speed test I get around 800mbps. My internet connection is 1gbps so this seems about right. Obviously, this will drop depending on your range. If I stand at the end of the garden I only get 200mb/s on AX, if I switch to 2.4ghz it's only...

    RT-AX92u - New firmware - 3.0.0.4.386_41712

Everybody had this problem. It was caused by a bad firmware release. The fix is to update the firmware but more importantly, you have to perform a hard reset using the WPS button method. Once you do this, the reboots will stop.

Solved Need some opinions on MoCa + mesh setup

Something doesn't seem right. I use AX92u's and the added latency on the node is only 1ms. Also, your AX92u can provide full 4X4 AX access to the clients. Unhide the AX backhaul band and force it into AX only. The AIMesh will steer non AX clients onto the other bands. Doing this gave us a...

New ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 with Wifi 6E

I think most power users are also home network enthusiasts and will have setup their own NAS boxes etc, thus negating the need for extra CPU and RAM. I don't believe you need all that extra CPU and RAM just to route traffic. I expect routing traffic uses very specific instructions and Asus...

Definitely, the reset button method is not a hard reset ASUS router Hard Factory Reset - Method 2 1. Turn the router off. 2. Press and hold the "WPS" button and turn the router on. 3. Power light is on (keep holding the WPS button). 4. Release the WPS button after the power light is off. 5...

    AIMESH Network Stability

The AX6100 had lots of problems with earlier firmware. It's definitely worth doing the following to eliminate them as the cause or your issue... Update the firmware on your AX6100's. Afterwards, you must do a hard reset. It's a pain but it has to be done.

    AX92U - Underrated?

The AX92u is a high end router that will beat even the AX86u on latency and performance I think the AX92u is underrated because it's odd specs cause confusion. This is what I would recommend for best performance: Apartment / Small house: iSP router Large coverage area: AX92u 2 pack or AX89x...

    RT-AX55 is crap.

The AX92u's AC radio is only 2x2 with pretty poor throughput. It only gets around 500mbps. In essence, what I'm doing is a bit of a hack, but it's worked out surprising good. Clients roam between all 3 bands effortlessly and the AX clients get automatically pushed onto the faster AX band.

RT-AX92U USB smb seems fragile, crashes router

Glad you found a solution, this was a smart move and like you say, it will allow your router to do what it does best. I was going to suggest buying a raspberry pi. However, you've repurposed your old hardware. That's even better.

    RT-AX55 is crap.

The AX92u AX is 4x4 not dual stream. It also has MU-MIMO and OFDMA, this helps to overcome a lot of the issues from sharing the backhaul channel. The clients all have a PHY rate of 2g + The backhaul has a PHY rate of 2.5G. I see the benefit when copying files from one PC to another on the...

    RT-AX55 is crap.

Wireless clients LAN network access via the AX band. If you work with huge files on your LAN, it's a big performance boost. Unfortunately, it only has a 1Gbps WAN port so internet access will always be limited to 1gbps.
