    Does AiProtection really work?

I guess you didn't read my post properly. I have it turned ON for the past week or so and don't see it catch anything (didn't try the test links) other than it consumes more RAM (not that it matters) and see reduced downloads/upload speeds - maybe, about 20 - 50 Mbps lower when I have it...

    Does AiProtection really work?

I see that AiProtection dishes out colorful description on the various features but how effective it is? I know it's better than nothing but it adds roughly about 30% more RAM usage as I see constant activity. When I disable AiProtection, the RAM usage comes back down about 30%. I enabled it...

    Release RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.43129

Yes, quick internet setup and in the admin page, I enable SSH and log into the router. I create a file, /jffs/asus.sh, and copy/paste the contents of the script and run it. Sometimes, I SCP the script as well. I setup basic LAN IP and few other things on the GUI and run the script for the...

    Release RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.43129

He is talking about RT-AC68U V4 as it's a new version of an old hardware. Wonder why ASUS is resurrecting an old device? Do they like it so much that they cannot come up with a new name? lol.

Solved AC68 new release today 05.21.2021 File is very large / Problem?

Thanks. And, I am LOL at my silliness because I use 7z quite regularly and never cared to click on the "Info" button.

What is the name of the app that gives you this nice info? Tried fsutil but it's not the same, unfortunately!

    Release RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.43129

I think it retains the settings but I did a hard reset (WPS procedure) after flashing it as I wanted to configure it fresh. Since I have a script to setup some of the settings, the upgrade process took about 15 - 20 minutes for me.

    Release RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.43129

I could flash to this version only using "ASUSTek - CFE miniWeb Server" after setting it to rescue mode. After that, I setup everything from scratch and it's all fine now.

    Release ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware 3.0.0.4.382.52545 - 2021/05/18

For me, I need the latest security patches + all the fixes and it's a no brainer to flash it. After flashing, I reset the settings as I was on beta before. It's working well - no issues till date. Btw, Merlin stopped updating since last year and it's probably missing lots of security patches...

    Release ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware 3.0.0.4.382.52545 - 2021/05/18

Well, you don't change routers every two years... Do you? So, I would expect the OEM to support it for several years. OTOH, if you flash DD-WRT, the support is forever or until Brain Slayer pulls the plug. :)

    Release ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware 3.0.0.4.382.52545 - 2021/05/18

A new version (3.0.0.4.382.52545) has been posted for RT-AC87U and it looks like ASUS didn't abandon this device yet. :) Flashed it on top of the beta (9.0.0.4.382.52503) and it's all good. Thanks ASUS for still supporting this awesome router...

    Beta ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware 9.0.0.4.382.52503 (02-02-2021)

It's an official release. I would flash it if I were you and if you are alarmed with the *beta* name, don't sweat it. Backup your settings and if not satisfied, flash the original firmware and reload the settings. That simple. :)

    Beta ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware 9.0.0.4.382.52503 (02-02-2021)

I have been running on the stock beta (9.0.0.4.382_52503) for couple of weeks now and no issues to report. Looks like a daily driver for sure!

    Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.82SF & v. 1.0.2.82.1SF & v. 1.0.2.82.2SF

My intent was not to derail this thread with OpenWRT. Since the device was running a tad hot and the load averages were running high, even though Voxel mentioned that it's only a bug, I thought of giving OpenWRT a swirl and check it out. I was pleasantly surprised that the build surpassed my...

    Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.82SF & v. 1.0.2.82.1SF & v. 1.0.2.82.2SF

I flashed OpenWRT (21.02 branch) to try it out and the loads are drastically lower. And, the speeds have increased a lot. http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/67680405

    Beta ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware 9.0.0.4.382.52503 (02-02-2021)

I flashed the latest beta (9.0.0.4.382_52503) and I don't see any issues. Everything is humming along very well. It's always good to have all the security patches applied and thanks to ASUS for supporting it. FWIW, I have setup automatic reboots at 3:30 AM every day. It is not needed but...

Noob Question: Is there a way to save and restore configs like (device names, static ips, port forwarding) so factory resets are less inconvenient ?

Well, I already applied a black tape as I couldn't take the disco lights in my bedroom. LOL. I am looking for an elegant solution. Since @RMerlin has implemented in his firmware, I thought of patching it up if it's simple enough.

Noob Question: Is there a way to save and restore configs like (device names, static ips, port forwarding) so factory resets are less inconvenient ?

Is there a way to turn off the LEDs (using NVRAM) in stock firmware as it's pretty bright in RT-AC87U?

Noob Question: Is there a way to save and restore configs like (device names, static ips, port forwarding) so factory resets are less inconvenient ?

Thanks. I get it that you can use the Factory default from the GUI but read some posts that it's not a clean way. Maybe, ASUS has cleaned up the GUI to reset it completely...
