Tutorial How to monitor DNS traffic in real-time

I'm using RT-AX86U with Merlin 386.4. Don't know the answer to your question about correct time. I just tried rebooting the router, once router was back up then ssh and ran the script (took me less than a minute after the router had gone back on line) and there was a red line to one of the IP...

Tutorial How to monitor DNS traffic in real-time

Yes (these settings are mine at least for today, or until the next learning - whichever comes first :)

Tutorial How to monitor DNS traffic in real-time

Great suggestion @eibgrad to leave the WAN DNS Setting > DNS Server1 and DNS Server2 blank. This worked for me - meaning no red line in the script output. The box below is "DNS-over-TLS Server List": try this. I'm seeing by entering servers from the pulldown options in "DNS-over-TLS Server...

Tutorial How to monitor DNS traffic in real-time

Following up: if I run amtm and check for script updates, the red line duplicates rise up from low single digit to nearly twenty, so this confirms scripts and amtm do send dns in plain text. I think this is expected (DoT implemented in WAN settings is for LAN client traffic)

Tutorial How to monitor DNS traffic in real-time

I pressed w and waited, and the red line disappeared: all else are yellow and green. Nice.

Tutorial How to monitor DNS traffic in real-time

+1 this is great, thank you! For my setup, all lines are green or yellow (DNS over TLS to Cloudflare), except one red line that looks like this, and has several duplicates: udp src=<WAN-IP> dst=<WAN-DNSServer1-IP> dport=53 src=<WAN-DNSServer1-IP> dst=<WAN-IP> Reading this thread, I think this...

Remote VPN access to my home VPN?

I've done this with a home router (Asus AX-86U) running Merlin using the router OpenVPN server, and remote with a similar GL.iNet router GL-MT300N-V2 using the VPN client. It worked: e.g.: showed the home router WAN IP to web sites, and allowed access to home networked devices. The only...

    iOS Shortcut for Diversion

Setting up Diversion iOS Shortcut on iOS 15: the syntax is different from the Diversion webpage description for iOS 12 link. I tried URLs: Get Component of URL as that allows specifying username, password, URL and port. But this doesn't render any Diversion options. Any suggestions? UPDATE...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.4 is now available

Dirty flash 386.4 for AX86U and AC66U_B1 - no issues found, all good. Thank you Merlin!

Entware speedtest-netperf on AX-86U running Merlin 386.3_2 (though netperf server not stable?)

I was diagnosing a poor broadband ADSL recently using a GL.iNet Mango GL-MT300N-v2GL router running openwrt, and found this command line script for assessing internet throughput and latency: https://github.com/openwrt/packages/blob/master/net/speedtest-netperf/files/README.md For the poor...

    Routing DNS over VPN

There's a comment in the link I shared: says doesn't work when you specify a source IP. Perhaps that's your situation. The link suggests to only specify a destination IP.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2_6 is now available

AX86U dirty flash from 386.2_4 to 386.2_6 yesterday. Everything working as expected - WiFi good for both 2.4G and 5G devices. Thanks Merlin. UPDATE-2: had to reinstall Bowers & Wilkins Z2 (AirPlay) speaker to connect to the router on WiFi 2.4GHz, and reboot the router to get this working as...

Router responding on WAN TCP ports 80 and 443

Agreed. I confirmed it's my OVPN Server settings that cause port 443 to be open. Thus I deleted my post as it's off-topic. Thanks - interesting post.

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0

I would try the Ooma voip on a static IP, and load that static IP address as a Local IP in the rules without specifying any ports (I've been doing this with a Siemens VoIP gateway that uses similar ports with FreshQoS/FlexQoS and now Cake). UPDATE: I removed the Local IP rule for my Siemens...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0

Thanks - that works perfectly. UPDATE: just realized that the default priority queue diffserv3 doesn't include the category "conferencing" which is default category for the given well known iptables rules - so I changed them all to "voice" category. All seems to work fine.

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0

Thank you for this!! Installed on AX-86U running 386.2_4. Can I inspect the iptables from the command line to see the rules? I tried this command (but do not see the static IP for a VoIP gateway that I assigned as a Local IP to Voice category): iptables --list
