    Initially did a dirty upgrade which I really should have thought twice about as I was already having so many mDNS issues after my last dirty upgrade. Those of you how want to use the auto-upgrade firmware feature really should think twice before enabling this as Asus simply don't have this side...

    For most, this is not a valid workaround. I'm still going to strongly urge you to actually bother trying the hard reset method plus manual resetting up the device. I know it is slow and painful, but again I can't stress how this took away some issues that I have experienced for over 12 months...

    I would recommend strongly that you try it. If you are happy with your work around, then it’s probably not worth complaining here in the first place. :)

    Strange. I have not seen this behaviour at all. In fact doing a full hard reset and manually setting everything up (i.e. not using config backup restore) managed to sort the issues I have been having for many many months. I should add however that the current 43170 firmware is the first version...

    I take all reviews on Amazon with a pinch of salt, as well over half of the reviews on any tech product will be for another version of the product range, so often makes zero sense. In fact Amazon reviews on any technology are hardly worth reading because of the way they package them together...

    I have found the latest firmware to be extremely solid, but ONLY after doing a full factory hard reset. I then had to setup everything manually. Doing a simple upgrade only cause the router to be extremely flaky. FWIW, this latest firmware drop appears to finally solve a whole bunch of weird...

    With the latest firmware recently rolled out, make sure you have done a full factory hard reset before setting up everything manually again. I had to ensure I followed that process before I got the router to remain stable.

    Personally I am now loving the XT8, but it has taken a year of pain to get to this point where Asus pretty much treated us all as guinea pigs. Latest firmware works a treat.

    I strongly suspect it is the firmware. If you read this forum, you will quickly see lots of broken functionality within the ZenWifi XT8. It's potentially a great little router, but Asus won't work with customers to fix the issues. There is another thread somewhere here with the XT8 beta...

    Up until a few weeks back, I did have gigabit up/down, and I was able to regularly get ~700+ both up and down on wireless with the XT8 (single node) and the full gigabit (i.e. ~940mbps) on wired.     FWIW, to solve some issues, I have setup the router to simply reboot each night. Not really an elegant way to deal with issues, but at least the MacBook Pros can now remain connected to wifi.

    Not keen on trying the beta firmware versions as the current reports in beta thread actually seem to show this newer version exhibits many issues I have seen on the current public version. If there was a few more fixes, I would be willing to give it a whirl, but until then, I will leave others...
