    Renaming client names

Is this true even if you reset the router to factory defaults before the upgrade?

    Renaming client names

Oh ok, yeah. I just thought that the client names you were referring to were configured in the router interface which made me confused.

    Renaming client names

What do you mean the laptops, iphones, and xbox did not require it? So the renaming for these device types survived the upgrade?

    Renaming client names

I noticed that you can rename the client names when you go to network map -> view clients. I was just wondering if this change will retain when upgrading to a newer version of Merlin everytime a new version comes out? If the answer is no, I wouldn't waste time renaming all of my clients. I just...

Optimizing wireless settings of RT-AC66U with ASUSWRT-Merlin 380.59

Gotcha. Would following the link posted above for the settings be enough? Or should I test manually myself? I just don't know what all those settings do :)

Optimizing wireless settings of RT-AC66U with ASUSWRT-Merlin 380.59

That's probably it. Would the settings in the link above be all I need to follow? The channel BW's recommended there are set to Auto. Thanks for the suggestion. Why did you decide to use a Band I channel instead of the standard Band IV?

Optimizing wireless settings of RT-AC66U with ASUSWRT-Merlin 380.59

It was in a forum I saw last weekend. I'm trying to search my history for it but cannot for the life of me! Anyway, I was always a believer of not setting to automatic as long as you know what you're doing so we're good. Generally though, it's better to pick a lower channel than a higher one...

Optimizing wireless settings of RT-AC66U with ASUSWRT-Merlin 380.59

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a good read later. If I'm the obly 5GHz band user ib my neighborhood, I'm reading that it is better to set channel selection to Auto. Is this accurate?

Optimizing wireless settings of RT-AC66U with ASUSWRT-Merlin 380.59

Except for the channels, I presume?

Optimizing wireless settings of RT-AC66U with ASUSWRT-Merlin 380.59

So what are the best wireless settings to get the best out of this router?

    Proxy server vs. Default route

That's what I thought. So technically, even though I remove the default gateway IP address setting in my computer's NIC (assuming I don't use DHCP), HTTP/HTTPS browsing will still work if the proxy server is set, correct?

    Proxy server vs. Default route

    Subscribed.

    Proxy server vs. Default route

If my proxy server is different from my default gateway (two different devices with two different private IP's located in the same subnet) and all my internal Windows computers are set to use the proxy server listening at port 3128, what kind of packets will flow through the proxy server and...

Radiation pattern of Linksys routers with internal antennas

What is the radiation pattern of Linksys routers with internal antennas like the WRT310N and WRT10N? And what is the optimal orientation of the router for the best signal propagation, lying down on a surface or mounted on a wall? If the radiation pattern is an omnidirectional doughnut, then I'm...

Jsut checking if everything is okay with my laptop equipped with intel 5300 wifi card

Even though the antenna seems to be slightly bent, is it OK? From communications, I know that the spacing from each metal part of the antenna and the size of the metal (corresponding to its wavelength) is very very important and crucial for the design of the antenna right? Can someone confirm...

Jsut checking if everything is okay with my laptop equipped with intel 5300 wifi card

I just received the replacement antenna/antenna wire. I am quite doubtful that this is the correct replacement, could someone confirm it for me?

Jsut checking if everything is okay with my laptop equipped with intel 5300 wifi card

My N speeds reaches only up to 144 Mbps now that I've lost one antenna. Before the wire got cut, my speeds were averaging at 270 MBps and max at 300 MBps, so I can say that three antennas really have an effect. What can I do to repair this? Are antenna wires two-wire (with tip and ground)...

Jsut checking if everything is okay with my laptop equipped with intel 5300 wifi card

I just lost one of my antenna wires because it got cut off because it was sandwiched between one screw of the laptop fan. What can I do? So should I just connect the two other wires to TR1 and TR2 (two outside connectors of the module)? Currently, the one connected to the two antennas are...

Jsut checking if everything is okay with my laptop equipped with intel 5300 wifi card

@thiggins how will I know if I'm utilising the three antennas that came with my laptop? also, I've read that you've made the 5300 as the standard test module for some routers. When you are connected at N speeds, were you never disconnected from the network for any reason, did you not...
