    RT-AX86U Pricing

I'm considering a RT-AX86U purchase. I don't "need to" but I want to add another AP to my network. Rather than buy something like another AC68U for an AP I'm thinking I'll repurpose the RT-AC3100 which is currently my main router and replace it with the RT-AX86U. It appears the RT-AX86U is...

    ASUS RT-AC68U - New Firmware 3.0.0.4.385_20632 Released July 24, 2020

It'll be interesting to see if other devices like my RT-AC3100 get an update from 20630 as well. Both AC68's went from 20630 to 20632 via the GUI wo/issue. My AC3100 did update the signature version to 2.186 but stayed on 20630. UPDATE - Just looked again and now 2.188 :)

    Asus RT-AC5300 (Main) to 2 X RT-AC68 (node) = Nintendo Switch Disaster

Abandon AiMesh if you're using it since you've got hardwired backhaul. Put the two "remote nodes" into AP mode. You can then individually assign channels to all bands/all nodes per the environment you've got by using a tool like WiFi Analyzer or similar. AiMesh forces frequency overlap. AND...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Do you know if the ultimate goal is to have this GA for ALL routers currently supporting AiMesh? TIA!

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Perhaps I missed it in the discussion but is there a published list of models that will eventually be supported or is the Beta list in the OP that list? Specifically I don't see the RT-AC3100 listed. TIA

    ASUS RT-AC3100 Firmware 3.0.0.4.385.20630

Stability/performance has been good on both the main and the AP node. I do NOT use AiMesh, I do not see any benefits and only limitations using AIMesh if you've got a wired backhaul available.

    ASUS RT-AC3100 Firmware 3.0.0.4.385.20630

Updated both AC3100's I have. This time the GUI found the firmware on the net so no manual process. The one in AP mode completed and rebooted itself. Again, my main node ended with a message to manually reboot. Just a warning for those who may consider a remote update with no one to perform...

    ASUS RT-AC3100 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.385.20585

NOTE - On both my AC3100's a manual download and install was required. Also, my AC3100 in AP mode rebooted itself and came back online. My AC3100 as the main node required a manual reboot so be careful if you're supporting remote locations with no one to perform a manual reboot!

    ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.385.20585

If I use the firmware upgrade "onboard" it downloads, goes through the installation per the progress bar and then abort to the login screen. I've rebooted the node after that and it still shows the old firmware and will repeat the above describe process. I've tried this on two separate nodes...

    RT-AC68U mesh performance

Dump AiMesh and use AP mode with your wired connection and there's no mysterious issues. Plus you regain full control of your AP node and get a stable network!

[AC88U, 384.15] 2.4GHz WiFi channel setting is not respected

And those users are the target of AiMesh ;)

[AC88U, 384.15] 2.4GHz WiFi channel setting is not respected

Again, we can agree to disagree. In fact the article I linked uses the "center of channel standard". Many articles and best practice guides talk center of channel. It's also how a lot of tools also display spectrum use. BUT I get your point. Yes, in many ways it's semantics but that's how...

[AC88U, 384.15] 2.4GHz WiFi channel setting is not respected

We can agree to disagree. I do understand what you're saying but most people I know discuss these types of allocation issues as center of channel. It just eliminates a lot of misinterpretation as I believe is happening here. Again, I almost never use 40Mhz channels in the 2.4GHz band. IMO...

[AC88U, 384.15] 2.4GHz WiFi channel setting is not respected

I do see what you're saying but ... Typically that channel number indicates the center of the overall channel so I guess if you mean "containing 10" then OK but not the way I'd represent it. I personally never use 40MHz channels and have never bothered to "decode" the ASUS GUI concerning them...

[AC88U, 384.15] 2.4GHz WiFi channel setting is not respected

I think what @L&LD is trying to point out is that you can't put a 40MHz wide channel at 10 in the US and that perhaps is what's causing the issue. Set your channel width to 20MHz and things should be OK. I'd also stick with 1, 6, or 11. It's rare when you'd want to select other than these...

    ASUS headache - Help!

Since you've got a wired backhaul between the two node, do a factory reset, ditch AiMesh, use the second node in AP node and all will likely stabilize. There is absolutely no tangible benefit of AiMesh with a wired backhaul. It forces frequency overlap, limits control of nodes, and there are...

Unable to reach local clients after roaming

Wired backhaul and ditching AiMess :)

Unable to reach local clients after roaming

Do you have a wire you can use for backhaul? These problems don't exist if you use AP mode (or at least I've not experienced them). I use AC3100's and AC68's in the main house.

    Topology/setup help - Mostly Asus-merlin devices

OK but I thought you said there was no need for communications between devices so I don't see the issue? NOTHING in the Yellow HAS to change in what I proposed. Also, you need not move the location of the Blue devices if you have a second wire available between the switch and the router. Use...

    Topology/setup help - Mostly Asus-merlin devices

Thoughts off the top of my head. Hope I understood your goals! 1) To my knowledge the guest network can only be isolated from the rest of the network on the main router node. On an AP node it is nothing more than an alias to the wireless that can have a differing passcode. So you can isolate...
