AiMesh - 5ghz-2 is now dedicated backhaul after recent firmware? (wired backhaul)

The client is primarily the decision maker in the band selection, not the AP (unless it just denies the connection). The AP can however influence the client. You don't need to justify your choices to me. That's what makes this Country great. I'd just never do it unless it was temporary for...

AiMesh - 5ghz-2 is now dedicated backhaul after recent firmware? (wired backhaul)

Then in your case if some temporary interference crops up or I disable the band you've chosen you're SOL. You also now become the "load balancer" based on a fixed device configuration instead of network status and intelligence. Places the "best network choice" on the user and not the device...

AiMesh - 5ghz-2 is now dedicated backhaul after recent firmware? (wired backhaul)

Each device needs to be set for all the SSIDs and passcodes. It also doesn't allow a device to "properly roam" and it's more administrative overhead. The list goes on but those are some to chew on. Look at most any public/commercial/corporate deployment and the only reason typically used for...

AiMesh - 5ghz-2 is now dedicated backhaul after recent firmware? (wired backhaul)

Since you've got wired backhaul I suggest you ditch AiMesh and switch to AP mode. Easier to set up (IMO), you've got more control for overlapping frequency use, and it's stable. I tried AiMesh with wired backhaul across 3+ routers and it was a nightmare of issues, including "phantom wireless...

    Is my ASUS RT-AC5300 dying?

Somewhat disagree - for years now most NICs have had the ability to set a preferred band. That said, for devices that don't support the feature, rather than have two separate SSIDs for main/daily use, one can temporarily set up a guest network per band for testing on most routers. Again...

Do you reboot often your router ?

I have a reboot scheduled weekly.

    Bricked RT-AC68u?

OK but why did you bother to ask for help if you're going to just ignore what people tell you? It does take time out of our day to respond. Best wishes. PS - the steps may be different but the activities I outlined are pretty standard things to do with computers/TVs/... when confronted with...

    Bricked RT-AC68u?

Sorry if this is captain obvious stuff. I know it sounds convoluted but I had similar issues awhile back with an AC68 when I abandoned AiMesh. 1) "Disconnect" - Completely disconnect everything from the router; lan, wan, usb and power. Also power down your main router (and any others) just...

    AC-86u AIMesh help

If I read everything correctly, you've got a wired backhaul that you expect to use between all nodes. IF that is correct, I'd ditch AiMesh, reset all nodes to factory and set up a main with everything else as a wired AP. I tried AiMesh with AC3100's and AC68's and it was nothing but headaches...

Kid was on discord too much so blocked with opendns. Now I see freegate and let's encrypt

IMO it's time for good old fashioned parenting with consequences. Teaching moment here that just because you can doesn't mean you should, life does have rules, and breaking the rules does have consequences. Not all problems can be solved with technology. ;)

Restoring a backup on another unit of the same model

I've done it where it has worked and I've also had issues in other attempts. Try it. Best option IMO is the NVRAM backup/restore tool out there that has a "migrate mode". I've had luck with that. Given it's an "unsupported feature" by ASUS you're running solo!!!! That said, I run mostly...

    Antenna direction and replacement questions

If there is anyway you can run a cable to a secondary location and add another node as an AP you'll be further ahead (IMO). Also, download a program like WiFi Analyzer and do a quick walk around your "primary use" locations noting the spectrum already in use.

RT-AC86U LAN speed limit at 200mbps (Runner & Flow cache enabled)

And did you at least factory reset after installing Merlin?

MoCa - Help With Network Please - Newbie

Boy, a lot to digest in this thread and a lot of good discussion. Maybe I missed it but for me, a step was skipped. I'm still scratching my head on the first picture with two CableCO feeds that are tied together in the house (UP and DOWN). Are there REALLY two active feeds from the CableCO...

Recommended specs for small personal NAS

Always a difficult debate with the DIY discussions. If I were doing this for someone else and/or a business I'd definitely go purpose built with the required reliability. I'd have hard requirements defined to measure against!! However at home I find myself replacing drives way before MTBF...

Recommended specs for small personal NAS

COMMENT PURELY INTENDED FOR "OPERATING COST" info!!! I use a re-purposed i7-4770 for NAS, home automation, camera aggregation/storage, alarm system monitor, ripped music, photos, and OTA streaming server/DVR. It's got 16Gb memory, 3 x 4 tuner ATSC cards, boot SSD, BluRay, and between internal...

Execution of custom script on button press

I was just adding to what @ColinTaylor said to "hide" the 2.4. Also, I'll bet there are just as many 5GHz networks but you just do not see them as the signal doesn't propagate as far. DL a program similar to WiFi Analyzer and walk around :)...

Execution of custom script on button press

Might also turn the TX power level all the way down in the Professional tab. Sorry that I can't look right now but wasn't there at one time a "time control scheduler" on the wireless as well? I could be mixing memories with other routers. I'm old and retired so memory isn't as important these...

RT-AC86U drops WiFi calls after 10-15 seconds

This could be hundreds of things. Could be the settings in the iPhone for selecting networks, could be your WiFi connection between your phone and the ASUS, could be channel interference with how you have your ASUS setup, ... Download speedtest for IOS and check the speed from your phone...
