Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

A Radar detect will look like this in your system log. But it doesn't always list it which I think is a bug.

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

Well according to that you have a damn site more channels available that what UK is restricted to. And none are showing as having an event in the past half hour. You are getting 160mhz so all is fine as far as DFS is concerned. Could still check event log for "Radar"

UK. I appreciate USA will probably get it a bit before UK. But won't be too far behind.

News Game On for Wi-Fi 6E

I understand DFS. What I was getting at was marketing beating functionality. If I could put the backhaul on the other channels then DFS wouldn't be an issue. But "Tri-band" sounds better than useless. 6e will be here by end of year if not next year. So not too long to wait. I'd expect to see...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Then I believe that means you are in a region that doesn't use DFS.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

If 5ghz detects a DFS event it has to block that channel for a set time. (31mins in the case of the XT8) It then drops back to 2.4ghz and waits 2 mins before connecting to a different channel. Check review in my sig for more details.

Have you checked for DFS events?

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

It is Asus aggressive DFS implementation. If you want to test it then turn your router off then back on again and look in the wireless log. Alternative is to manually pick each channel one by one and it will trigger this in the wireless log.

News Game On for Wi-Fi 6E

I know this post is from April but just wanted to point out I was furious when I discovered this. My dual band RT-N66U could handle channels 36-64 and 100-140. But the ZenWifi XT8'S split this into two bands. The backhaul was restricted to 100-140 meaning I could never achieve 160mhz because of...

    Hidden 802.11a Network

My amazon firesticks do this too. Trick is to use something like wifi analyser then walk around watching for signal strength to increase as you get closer.

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

5ghz gets blocked for 2mins and light goes yellow, backhaul and all other traffic is restricted to 2.4ghz then after 2mins goes back to white again and 5ghz works again. The channel gets blocked for 31mins and not selectable.

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

100-200mbps should be easily achievable. I managed to stream a 120mb UHD 60fps. IIRC both 5ghz get blocked for 2 mins. But only the 5ghz channel that detects the DFS event gets blocked for 31mins. In my case it was a local weather radar. The DFS channel gets blocked but I've never had it...

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

No, when a DFS event is triggered it will knock 5ghz out for 2 mins and that channel for 31mins. 5ghz is always disabled for first 2 minutes of boot as it has to listen on DFS before broadcasting. Max speed i got when located in place on 160mhz was 2800mbps. Even with routers a metre apart max...

    XT8 strange problem...

I had this on my XT8'S Even when using a static address. Only way I could access the Internet again was connecting to a different SSID then reconnecting back. Too many issues so I returned mine. Shame as the hardware looks awesome and plenty powerful enough. Technical review in my sig.

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

If a DFS event occurs. Router and Node move to another 5ghz-2 band on channel 100-140. This happens if you have automatic or manual channel selection. It will disable channel changing for 31mins. This is a problem for 160mhz as it pushes you down to 80mhz. In effect stopping 4gbps backhaul...

Is Wi-Fi 6E really going to be here soon?

It all depends what you intend to use it for. Commercial or Personal. To me I want streaming 4k UHD available around my house. So far the most intense bandwidth I have come across is is around 120mbps (4k UHD @ 60mhz). So taking this to its peak, i'd have 5 family members pulling approx 600mbps...
