Scribe syslog-ng not starting on boot if IPv6 enabled.

Well, that sucks. Do you have IPv6 enabled? Trying to see if that's a common denominator. If you do, what happens if you disable IPv6 and leave those lines outside of the do loop? Ugh.

Scribe scribe 3.x_y - syslog-ng and logrotate installer

scribe right now doesn't do so well with the early boot stuff (i.e. it tends to just lose it - I need to figure that out). I can't imagine it would make any difference. I don't think syslog-ng cares about the timestamps, it just passes them through.

If you have IPv6 enabled, try disabling that. It's possible that's a separate issue (that I have no control over).

What version of scribe? Please make sure you're using 3.1_1

Scribe scribe 3.x_y - syslog-ng and logrotate installer

Pushed 3.1_1 There is a reason the scribe github page warns: "This software was written by someone who very likely didn't know what they were doing. There is a non-zero chance this software will not function as intended ..." You really should take such warnings seriously. I blindly took the...

Scribe syslog-ng not starting on boot if IPv6 enabled.

Ahhhh, I think know what the problem is (maybe, lol). Last run through, I took a suggestion from shellcheck I shouldn't have. 'doh! At the end of rc.func.syslog-ng the lines TZ="$( /bin/cat "/etc/TZ" )" [ -z "$TZ" ] && export TZ are obviously stupid. I separated the lines without thinking...

Scribe syslog-ng not starting on boot if IPv6 enabled.

Okay, installed scribe and rebooted a bunch of times (RT-AC86U / 386.11) and was unable to reproduce your issue. At the risk of "passing the buck" it sounds like it's neither an Entware nor Scribe issue, my guess is it's a problem with your ISP. IPv6 shouldn't take any longer to come up than...

Scribe syslog-ng not starting on boot if IPv6 enabled.

Which is odd, I've used IPv6 for years without a problem. This weekend is my factory reset router and start from scratch on 386.11 weekend, I've been running 386.09 up until now, haven't got to installing scribe yet, just setting up my environment. I'll see if I have this issue later today...

Best method for reloading settings after wipe?

Given my life, it won't be until Memorial Day at the earliest. Too much else going on.

Best method for reloading settings after wipe?

Wow, I was expecting a beta test period, guess the alpha went really well. Good on RMerlin!

Best method for reloading settings after wipe?

Huh, I've never seen that. My issues started when I accidentally installed screen despite running tmux at the time, and subsequently uninstalling screen. The reboot thing seems to have stopped so maybe there was something funky with removing screen that finally got resolved. Right now my...

Best method for reloading settings after wipe?

Eh, if that happens then I'll make my mesh node (AC68) my primary until I can replace it. I only have the mesh node so I have good coverage in my garage anyways. Not a big deal. Not going to replace something that's not broken when I have a plan B in place. And even if I didn't have the...

Best method for reloading settings after wipe?

Lol, it seems to have stopped the random reboots. Dunno. Still hoping ASUS releases an RT-BE86U :)

Best method for reloading settings after wipe?

So, that works fine as long as you're not having problems with your router. However, if your router is doing something weird, often (usually?) backing up, wiping, and restoring the backup will simply result in restoring the problem as well. :-/ But yeah, if you can restore from a known good...

Best method for reloading settings after wipe?

Fortunately, that's not me. All I really have to do is save the router SSL keys to a text file. I've only a few IPs on my network I explicitly assign, only things that I have a need to point to directly from other machines (e.g. NTP servers)

I actually already have GoFullPage. But thanks for the suggestion. :)

Scribe syslog-ng logrotate no longer rotating messages file

Would you share your method? I'm rather blasé about the whole wiping the messages on reboot, but I guess other people are more interested in it. You can PM it if it reveals data you'd rather not reveal publicly.

Scribe scribe 3.x_y - syslog-ng and logrotate installer

Pushed 3.1_0 Stuff I backburnered in order to get 3.0 version working on 388 routers ... Exported modified path to get firmware executables rather than give explicit paths to all binaries ( thanks @thelonelycoder ) Added checking syslog.log path to status Added ability to redetect syslog.log...

Oh, sure, be all logical and all. I see how you are. ;-) Sigh. You're right though, of course.

Best method for reloading settings after wipe?

Yeah, I already had that happen, fortunately ASUS exchanged it I think for the cost of shipping. I'm hoping to hold out for a wifi 7 router (RT-BE86U?) since ASUS is starting to introduce wifi 7 routers. Crossing fingers it stays on the 388 branch to keep RMerlin's life at least a little bit...
