    Scribe scribe and Entware

Heh, I remember people whinging when they realized almost all of the add-on scripts run every time service-event is called. I already log every call to the service-event script, nothing in the logs from updating syslog-ng earlier. It may end up having to be a cron job.

Scribe Obsolete network sources in Scribe

Ugh. Why do they keep changing stuff? If it's not broke, fix it until it is? With luck, my availability should increase in the next few months, I'll try to sort some of these lingering issues.

    Scribe scribe and Entware

Just a reminder since Entware recently updated, and included an update to syslog-ng, after updating Entware, it's advisable (but not mandatory) to run scribe's status function to update the syslog-ng.conf file to reflect the latest version. This can be accomplished in 3 ways: If using amtm...

    Asuswrt-Merlin AddOn Developers Donation Links

If you like and use scribe please consider donating to Jack Yaz, thelonelycoder, and Adamm, from whom I stole boatloads of code in writing scribe. Alternately, please consider a donation to METAvivor, a cause near and dear to my heart.

uiScribe uiScribe - Custom System Log page for "scribed" logs

Yeah, since scribe doesn't reside in memory, it can't automatically update the log file when syslog-ng updates. In the future "scribe status" from the command line, or the 's' option in scribe will force a version check between the installed syslog-ng and the syslog-ng.conf file. I've never...

Scribe Log entry fragments in Scribe

I've not updated to 384.19 yet, and I'm not sure when I will. That said, unless 384.19 changed something, you should see your hostname between the time and "kernel:". The fact that you don't have that suggests syslogd is parsing the messages, not syslog-ng. Instead of looking at top, simply...

Scribe scribe - syslog-ng and logrotate installer

Did you modify the /opt/etc/syslog-ng.conf file? I am sadly quite slammed with other obligations for the foreseeable future, so I'm only going to be of limited help. Sorry.

Scribe scribe - syslog-ng and logrotate installer

syslog-ng is now at 3.27.1-2 in entware, maybe try installing syslog-ng again?

Scribe scribe - syslog-ng and logrotate installer

So, the way I would approach it is to copy expandlog from /opt/share/syslog-ng/examples to /opt/etc/syslog-ng.d and restart syslog-ng from scribe. This will create a very large log pretty quickly, but with 4 TB I'm guessing you can stand to create a big file. You can then search the resulting...

Scribe scribe - syslog-ng and logrotate installer

I'm not quite sure I understand your problem, but neither scribe nor Skynet rely on each other work. If you have, or are going to use Skynet, you should install Skynet first to ensure scribe properly handles Skynet's logs, but that's it. I'm sorry, I can't understand the second part of your...

How long before AC3200 is "unsafe"?

Just a note for anyone else who wanders here, ASUS is continuing to issue security updates for the AC-3200

Scribe scribe - syslog-ng and logrotate installer

remove the filter "f_vpnfailover" (you're not actually using it) and also remove the line "filter(f_kernel);" from the log statement since as @ugandy points out, it isn't a message from the kernel, and "f_kernel" may not be defined in your environment anyways.

How long before AC3200 is "unsafe"?

I do appreciate your thoughts, please don't misunderstand. I was just picking at the rationale to see if there was something in your logic I was missing. I do see your point, but I think I'm more concerned about security vulnerabilities than him clicking on a scam. That may change if I see...

How long before AC3200 is "unsafe"?

But with a single computer, it's not a big deal to keep malware/virus software up to date on the computer, and by switching back to stock on the router, at least I'm getting security updates from ASUS, since they are still releasing new firmware for the AC3200. If I was giving dad a router that...

How long before AC3200 is "unsafe"?

The AC3200 doesn't support AiMesh, and I doubt it ever will. I bought an AC68U to be a mesh node behind my AC86U. I'm too old to crawl under my house to run ethernet to other rooms in the house.

How long before AC3200 is "unsafe"?

Dad will have one computer in the house, plus his cell phone and our phones when we visit. I'm not sure he needs the likes of Skynet and Diversion, particularly when every so often a legit site gets blackholed because someone else in the same server farm isn't playing nice. I'm seriously not...

How long before AC3200 is "unsafe"?

Dad's legally blind. :-( Just got him a Dell all-in-one with a 27" screen so he can enlarge the text to where he can read it, and still have more than 3 words per line on the screen. As long as it "just works" he shouldn't miss anything.

How long before AC3200 is "unsafe"?

Admittedly I hadn't looked to see if ASUS was still updating the firmware. He wouldn't be updating the firmware, but I would, since I'll be over there a lot more. He now lives 5 miles from me 2 exits west instead of 50 miles and on the other side of downtown L.A. But yeah, he doesn't need any...

How long before AC3200 is "unsafe"?

NB: I wholeheartedly agree with Merlin's reasoning for not supporting the AC3200 any more. I am thinking of giving my "spare" AC3200 to my dad as he just moved into a new place and needs a wifi router. Of course, no support mean no vulnerabilities patched. How can I decide when it's no longer...

amtm amtm - the Asuswrt-Merlin Terminal Menu

There is WAY too much rum flowing through my veins right now for me answer that in anything but a cynical, sarcastic bent, but I'm not so far gone as to actually post any of those. ;-)
