    please be more specific. your router supports openvpn client and server. are you saying openvpn client connecting to a VPN provider doesn't work? or are you saying that when you connect to an openvpn server you've created it doesn't work?

    sure, just a double NAT. internet facing router is also AC68 doing pppoe dial up with ISP. It's connected via ethernet to a unitasker fiber terminal. VPN router WAN is DHCP.

    Could it be because initially the WAN doesn't come up properly that policy routing at boot time isn't working properly? "ISP's DHCP did not function properly"

    OpenVPN - auth settings clarification

    This is interesting. I've never used the server but as a client VPN providers today typically use all 4 certs/keys and no user/pass. That may be so that somebody could share ovpn configs with friends/family but still not have to give away their password.

    you may want to try alpha4 http://www.snbforums.com/threads/github-snapshot-test-builds-updated-30-may-2015.24659/ just to see if it's already been fixed. is it possible there's a tor node in your VPN provider?

    the log showed that google (8.8.8.8) was being used, so I figured that should work. BTW, you can specify DNS in ovpn config files. however, you'll still have to use a setting other than "disabled" for the "accept DNS config" option in the GUI. dhcp-option DNS <dns_server_ip_address>

    have you used the policy routing mode at all? if so, some problems with rules being enforced even though you're not using policy routing mode right now. ssh into your client here and type "ip rule show" to see if there are residual rules from policy routing.

    would it be possible to save changes to policy routing (while the client is connected) without forcing the client to go through the connection process again?

    ummm..the policy routing is built in to firmware 53 and is enhanced in the alpha you are testing. in the openvpn client change redirect internet traffic setting to policy rules and go from there. keep in mind IP ranges need to be in CIDR format.

    What will happen if there are conflicts in the two routing policy rules and both tunnels are up? eg policy ruleset of both openvpn clients has same IP going through tunnel.

    perhaps you've also missed that merlin firmware 53 now has policy routing mode where the user can specify which LAN clients go through openvpn tunnel? :)
