    OpenVPN on RT-AC68U

default cipher for everything but udp port 1196

    OpenVPN on RT-AC68U

Morphy, the lines that crash openvpn on the router are the tcp-nodelay. your ISP is probably throttling UDP speed a little. have you already tried UDP port 53?

    OpenVPN on RT-AC68U

have you tried different ports and the different TCP ports? when you do try ports other than 1196 you'll have to set the cipher back to default.

    Open VPN not port forwarding

well, trust me, that's the way you do it. make sure your VPN provider is forwarding that port, and make sure your server is listening on that port. Otherwise any port checker will show it's closed.

    OpenVPN on RT-AC68U

below is what's in my ovpn file. I just change the server to what I want. there are no other certs or anything available. client dev tun proto udp remote server.privateinternetaccess.com 1196 resolv-retry infinite nobind cipher AES-128-CBC persist-key persist-tun ca ca.crt tls-client...

    Open VPN not port forwarding

that port forwarding won't work with an openvpn client. SSH into the router and input iptables such as these, changing the tun device, LAN IP, dport as required. iptables -I FORWARD -i tun11 -p udp -d 192.168.2.42 --dport 64505 -j ACCEPT iptables -I FORWARD -i tun11 -p tcp -d 192.168.2.42...

    OpenVPN on RT-AC68U

yes, routers will not be super fast unless you spend like $500. but, with a good connection and VPN provider you should be able to get 50megabits/s with the AC68. I've seen it done and I get at least 35mbit/s with my AC68 but my ISP max is 35. :) I also use PIA and I know it can do very high...

curious connection and how to link PID to port used

that is my internal IP from a VPN provider. the router made the connection while connected to that VPN. what concerned me about this connection was that it seemed to be permanent. however, further testing shows that the connection is not shown in netstat-nat -L while connected to other VPN or...

curious connection and how to link PID to port used

thanks again. Yes, I'd like to hear from others on what this is and if they're having the same connection made.

curious connection and how to link PID to port used

Thanks. The command netstat-nat -nL shows connections to NAT, not SNAT or DNAT. In fact, 99% of the connections shown in this list are from my computer to the router for the web GUI. Looking at the connection tracking table I found: ipv4 2 tcp 6 359755 ESTABLISHED src=10.201.9.44...

curious connection and how to link PID to port used

Proto Source Address Destination Address State tcp 10.201.9.44:41837 184.28.188.137:80 ESTABLISHED I'm consistently seeing this connection made, seen by using netstat-nat -nL This is the router itself making the connection to an akamai server. I'm hoping somebody knows what this is for...

OpenVPN Client Settings for Mullvad VPN?

the custom configuration space is just at the bottom of the openvpn client page. you shouldn't have to mess with anything though. as I said, just upload the ovpn configs, click apply, and turn it on.

OpenVPN Client Settings for Mullvad VPN?

ns-cert-type server I believe that line needs to be in your custom config. However, from the looks of the mullvad web site https://www.mullvad.net/en/setup/openvpn/ it looks as though you should be able to download ovpn config files complete with certs/keys. If so, all you have to do is...

Selective routing, DNS servers and opening ports with OpenVPN

Have you opened that port with AirVPN? Why are you storing keys and certs in jffs? To avoid using nvram?

Selective routing, DNS servers and opening ports with OpenVPN

the openvpn config files (.ovpn) that you download via their configuration generator have the line explicit-exit-notify 5 for UDP connections. TCP connections may not have it. then those ovpn files can be uploaded and saved to the router through the openvpn client GUI. no setup required. the...

Selective routing, DNS servers and opening ports with OpenVPN

just to get back to the original question about a DNS "leak".... no, you're not leaking either way. if you manually input DNS in the WAN section requests to those DNS will be sent through the VPN tunnel. That's why I use google public because no matter what VPN gateway I connect to there is a...

Selective routing, DNS servers and opening ports with OpenVPN

oh, I just ssh into the router and paste those iptables in whenever I need to. I don't know the answer to your questions otherwise.
