confirmed ongoing bug 2+years in AC and AX-86u routers

What router do you own? I don't use AIMesh nodes. When I get more time I will try to recreate it and take some screen shots etc etc. Death in the family lots of things to do so this is low priority atm. Sorry.

confirmed ongoing bug 2+years in AC and AX-86u routers

Its been at least 2 years since I have dealt with this. I have seen it at least three times and also has been documented on the web a few years ago. The networks were a combination of windows server 2012, 2016 some with Xignmanas shares as well as windows shares. My current router with the...

confirmed ongoing bug 2+years in AC and AX-86u routers

Did you use a cell phone as a guest and use a app like Cx file explorer from a cell phone? Did you have any open shares set to "everyone" ? If tested properly it means not every model has the bug. Many combos to test. Just be aware and not assume its properly isolated until proven...

confirmed ongoing bug 2+years in AC and AX-86u routers

I am saying the guest wifi should not allow any viewing of the network at all, just internet. The user will not be aware of this. On the Private wifi of course I can browse shares, I want to be able to using that. But not on guest WiFi that is for internet only not for total network access...

confirmed ongoing bug 2+years in AC and AX-86u routers

This is actually a pretty big deal of a bug if you don't know about it. On all of my RT-AC86us, 66u, AX86u Pro with merlin of various versions (its probably not related to merlin) there is a bug in the guest wifi that allows guests to browse network shares even if access intranet is set to...

    RT-AC86U -> RT-AX86U Pro Review

Thanks you confirmed what I had suspected. I have three RT-AC86us. Other than running hot (I put HT fans on each temps 59c now) They have been rock solid, Just put one in my 3rd cottage too. I'll ride them out till no more updates then move on to what even asus Merlin supports the longest.

    RAM usage 86u vs 68u

I realize they don't have the same cpu or exactly the same hardware. I was talking about what is using the extra ram. And on reboot the AC86u still uses much more. Not 10 percent more, not 50 percent more but 3.3 times more. I just wanted to know what was using it. Is most of it reserved...

    RAM usage 86u vs 68u

Yes RT-AC86u vs RT-AC68u Did not know the 68u was 32 bit. Its probably dynamic memory allocation.

    RAM usage 86u vs 68u

Just curious on why the 68u uses very little ram vs the 86u. With same number of connections my 68u will use only 89MB of ram/256 while the 86u will use 280MB/512. Both using the same version of Merlin. No issues with either router just wondering why the 86u uses so much more ram.

Which current Asus routers run cool out of the box?

hehe LOL, the scary thing is you probably are not joking.

Which current Asus routers run cool out of the box?

I've owned quite a few asus routers over the years and they are all working (ones power button does not stay pushed in) My newer 86u while working well, appears to need active cooling or I feel the longevity will suffer. Its heat-sink cpu configuration is less than optimal vs say the old...

Dump nand content on working ac86u

Nice job Tech9! That is a pretty huge gap. Wish they would have done it right from the factory. 40c it might catch a cold at that temp might want to turn off a fan :) Where did you get the copper shim? Might save me some time in case I want to tear mine apart for the fix. For now my twin...

Updated RT-AC68U to Merlin 386.5 and lost USB drive support

My RT-AC68u runs at 76c. No fans or any active cooling. The cpu can take it but the surround chips and solder points might not. I like all cpus to be under 80c if possible. 90c will shorten the life no question. I know the cpu can take higher temps but other things on the...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

You can backup settings but the best way to do it clean. Is after a update do a factory reset. Prior to that take a screen shot of you router settigns and put them in a word document. Manually put them back in, yes its slower but only way to be clean. And use a vpn to get on the network...

86u openVpn server speeds not 200 Mbit

Agree none of them are using VPN in the way I am. Using Torgaurd would do me no good even if I got 200Mbit. I'm thinking maybe 100Mbit is all it can do in my situation which seems to be rare. For Torgaurd I just use a simple windows app, don't see the point of involving the router at all...

86u openVpn server speeds not 200 Mbit

Yes I don't use any of that. It might be they never used it like I am. Most seem to pay a provider and rather than using the providers windows app (like I do for torgaurd) they use the router. I'm not doing that, I'm just using the router as a VPN server and connecting from Office to Home...

86u openVpn server speeds not 200 Mbit

Both the Server using a xeon cpu single thread. And not sure if its cpu limited or where the bottle neck is. Encryption does slow it down. The 86u is said to be able to hit 200Mbits but its no faster than the Turnkey VPN. I can send to google drive at 500-600Mbit and to home FTP and...

86u openVpn server speeds not 200 Mbit

Im trying to max out my VPN speed from office to home. I read the 86u can do 200 Mbit but I seem to be hitting a 100-110 Mbit wall. Maybe I need to see someone elses configs for tuning. The connection speeds - Work 1000/1000 Fiber - Home 500/30 xfninity/comcast I run Turnkey VPN on the...

    Upgrade a RT-n66u ?

yes there is a reason in this particular situation for not running it on x86 I could have but that is another story. Have lots of VM servers running on the Dell Server rack. I got the 86u yesterday and testing it out. So far it seems to run cooler than both my 68u. During VPN, FTP speed...

AC-86U reliabily how long has yours run without a reboot

Ahh wrong router and wrong place to ask for such a thing. That is probably a difficult statistic to come by but had to try sorry. I suppose maybe asking if they had experienced freezes lockups in-between doing standard updates. I don't think I have ever had to reboot any of my 4 asus...
