How to achieve xfinity multi-gig "Gigabit extra" 1200mbps connection

Did you go into the modem's firmware and activate LAG if that is an option? I am using an mb8600 with LAG activated and it works fine on that modem. After activating you need to reboot both the modem and router. Don't bother calling xfinity since you own both the modem and router it is...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

You should consider adding the script YazDHCP. It allows you so save to CSV file a list of your assigned static IPs and the associated MAC. It then makes it possible to reload this information on any router with this utility loaded. The only information you lose is the ICON representing the...

Help with VPN client setup on AX86u

    1. Under LAN - DHCP server enable setting static LAN IPs and assign the two devices you want to use the VPN static IPs. I prefer to assign IPs outside the pool. Reduce the size of your VPN pool if necessary a range of 50 is more than enough for most people. 2. Download a OpenVPN file...

    WAN Aggregation question

While I haven't used load balancing I am using link aggregation between my MB8600 and my ASUS AX86S and it does seem to function and provides some benefit on my 1200/40 Mbps ISP connection. While I don't currently have a method to test for network speeds above 1 gig, when I check the...

Get asus AX58U router mode features on ap mode

Double NAT works fine where you run VPN clients on the second router. No need for DMZ. I have even experimented and gone as deep as QUAD NAT with no problems. Double NAT only creates problems/challenges if you need or want to run some type of server on the second router. Also being double...

YazDHCP YazDHCP - feature expansion of DHCP assignments (increasing limit on the number of DHCP reservations)

Yes. You have the option running this script under Merlin to then assign a DNS server to each IP.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

I am running 388.1 on an AX86S connected to a MB8600 modem using WAN aggregation to try and squeeze the last 200 Mbps out of the connection. While it works well when it is working it creates a major problem if there is a network/power outage and both the modem and AX86S need to be power cycled...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

All I'm saying is at least it would be helpful if when someone clicks on the information Icon it listed that as a possible source for the warning that there is a 100 Mbps device connected on this port.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Running 388.1 on a new AX86S and it all seems stable. I had to disable the AX wifi option as older Iphones would not connect. Will decide if I'm going to keep this router before moving to latest Merlin firmware. One issue is with the information displayed on the Network Map page. It shows...

    spdMerlin Different Speedtest results

Another possibility is that when it was setup the system remembered a text string from a previous setup. My AC86 shows up as an AC1900 which is the router I used previously. I did not reuse a settings file. The wrong name/router type has no impact on the router's performance nor will it...

To Double NAT or Not - Advice

Double NATing works fine for most people and no need for DMZ for most applications. Where the problems start is if you want to run a server on the second router or access devices on the second router's network from the first router's network.

What does the Asus+Merlin router have that other routers don't?

MAN is an option when you set up static routing. But using the VPN director you have the option to direct devices either to the VPN or ISP.

Guest networks not working with VPN client

I haven't used the stock firmware however with Merlin's running 7.2 I have three open VPN clients running and using the VPN director I have no issue with devices connected on the guest network routing using the VPN. I don't use YazFi.

Need router with VPN and repeater using local wifi

The GL.inet is about as simple as you can find. If you need support look for a geek in your neighborhood that for $$$ will come to your location and make things work for you. Very few products that will do exactly what you want and for the price that GL.inet charges I doubt you can count on...

    Replacement for N66U

I just got mine from Amazon yesterday and have been setting it up. Hopefully it has better manufacturing QC than my AC86. Not on my home network so haven't been able to see how WAN link aggregation works but WireGuard client was easy to get working. Don't have enough WAN speed to test if...

    Amazon Deal ASUS AX86S

For anyone looking for a deal in the USA on an Asus AX86S router Amazon has a really good deal if you are willing to apply for an Amazon Prime branded Chase bank card. Might be similar offers elsewhere in the world but I don't know. When you go to Amazon this router is being offered for...

What do you use the USB connection for?

You can connect a printer that doesn't have an Ethernet port to the router using USB and create a networked printer.

    Solved VPN Director Question

I don't know if that will work but the correct notation is as shown in the example and in your case should be 192.168.1.0/24

Home internet not getting advertised download speeds from ISP

To get the full throughput you need to be sure hardware acceleration is enabled. Your router is a rebranded AC-1900 and the firmware is locked down so I'm not sure if you can enable hardware acceleration through the GUI but you need to look. With the regular AC68/AC1900 it was an option you...
