amtm Disk Check cannot fix the errors on USB flash

Hi! My USB drive is going to die soon. The check tool reports errors (EXT2) but I cannot repair them because the drive is automatically mounted - Entware and scripts are installed on it. I am going to replace it by a SSD. But how can I unmount the drive and repair it in the meantime without...

reboot instead of halt when using putty

Hi! When opening a command line / bash with WinSCP and typing in "halt" everything works like a charm: the router stops everything within 10-20 seconds and every LED is finally turned off and the router ready for poweroff. But when I try to achieve the same using Putty, the router always only...

Do you reboot often your router ?

I understand your arguments and no doubts, those effects are really there. But the question remains: does it have a lasting impact on the router's probability to die earlier or is it just academical? Like when I overtake someone on the highway, I'm aging slower than the other one according to...

    ntpMerlin no clients shown

:D Well, the hardware thing isn't actually my problem or question ;) I'd rather be interested what makes the chronyc clients list fail. Anyway, I'll simpy work around the problem by using a script that restarts chrony after a boot. That'll do.

    ntpMerlin no clients shown

Unfortunately the problem doesn't only appear right after reboot or so. The problem occurs and stays until I restart chrony manually. Even if check it like one hour after reboot, the list is empty. However, syncing time after reboot and serving the time to clients works normally. So that is why...

Do you reboot often your router ?

Well, I don't think it's as devilish as you suggest. The assumed wear due to powering off and on seems so little that it doesn't affect the life span in a relevant way. Yes, they are servers, but that doesn't mean they have to run 24/7 to be good. I have had two routers so far in my life, both...

GUI Reboot vs Power off/on restart

Yes. The dark LEDs are misleading. The router still consumes energy although it's halted. Even more, energy consumption doesn't differ much from normal operation. To cut it short: one has to cut off power manually after halting it, only then it's fully switched off. As soon as it's powered on...

Do you reboot often your router ?

I've been powering off one of my router's each night for the last ... um decade or even more. The current model is an A86U. Powering it off works like a charm; haven't had any hardware issues. However, before powering off it is properly shut down ("halted") by a simple cron job because some...

    ntpMerlin no clients shown

Hi! Sometimes after powering on/booting my router "chronyc clients" doesn't show any clients in the list although chronyd obviously works because it serves the time to clients requesting it: operator@homerouter:/tmp/home/root# chronyc clients Hostname NTP Drop Int IntL...

vnStat [Release] vnStat-on-Merlin - UI, CLI and email - data use and data limit monitoring - R1 and R2

Thank you. Done. :) It works. And I left HA on, too ... hoping it doesn't affect measurements considerably. I have a lot less traffic.

vnStat [Release] vnStat-on-Merlin - UI, CLI and email - data use and data limit monitoring - R1 and R2

Hi! I hope I am right in this thread. First of all: vnstat is an awesome tool! Just three short questions: How could I edit the cron time for sending the daily mail and make the change survive updates of vnstat? I'd just need a slightly different time. I wouldn't mind if this leads to vnstat...

same variable name in different bash scripts

Ahh, great. Good to know that. I wasn't sure how it works. And no, these scripts don't access resources outside of their own processes. Thank you very much for your prompt answers. :)

same variable name in different bash scripts

Hi! I have two different bash scripts. They perform independent tasks from each other, but can possibly run at the same time (during boot process). In both sripts there are variables (for instance to count loops). Can it cause confusion if both scripts use a varibale with the same name or does...

ntpMerlin no clock sync with chrony after router powerdown / reboot [solved]

Hallelujah :D Your hints made it work again. Thank you! scMerlin and that NTP watchdog script in particular does its magic and the router's clock becomes synced again. Very appreciated! Issue solved.

ntpMerlin no clock sync with chrony after router powerdown / reboot [solved]

Oh, well, no. :) I simply don't need this router to be on during night and while I'm out in the office. It would run several hours a day and consume power for no reason. I have been powering it down each night for like a decade now and it worked liked a charm ... until I tried to set up a local...

ntpMerlin no clock sync with chrony after router powerdown / reboot [solved]

Cool. :) Thank you. I'll try that and see if it works in the follwing days. :)

ntpMerlin no clock sync with chrony after router powerdown / reboot [solved]

Alright. I installed scMerlin and that watchdog script. Does it work in the background or do I have to do/check something? I can't see controls or measurements in the GUI except for switching the watchdog script on/off.

ntpMerlin no clock sync with chrony after router powerdown / reboot [solved]

Hello! I don't have the orignal log file here at the moment, but I remember it saying somethink like "failed to sync for 10 minutes. please take care of it." And that's it. There are no more messages regarding NTP afterwards. But I'll have a closer look next time. For now I rolled back my...

ntpMerlin no clock sync with chrony after router powerdown / reboot [solved]

Hi! Alright. I assumed it has something to do with ntpmerlin because clock sync stops working once I install ntpmerlin and starts working again as soon as I uninstall ntpmerlin. I'll check what that NTP watchdog is about - haven't heard about it before.
