ntpMerlin no clock sync with chrony after router powerdown / reboot [solved]

Hi! I have a AC86U router, firmware 386.4, using amtm 3.2.3 and ntpmerlin 3.4.5 (installed through amtm). I configured ntpmerlin to use chrony. It works fine, but there is one situation that seems to cause problems. This router isn't always on (due to its location), i.e. it's often shut down...

Whoa thank you :) I wasn't aware of that.

Route only a specific device through VPN

Hello! I set up a VPN client (NordVPN) in my Asus router. It works fine, however it affects all internet traffic when I turn it on. But how can I configure my ASUS router to only route the traffic of one specific local device (e.g. a mobile phone with a fixed local IP address) through that VPN...

DNS redirect to local DNS server

Good point. I guess simply redirecting DoT (port 853) to the local DNS device wouldn't work, right? And DoH (port 443) would be difficult to grab.

DNS redirect to local DNS server

Thank you, thank you. I really forgot this feaure of Merlin. It works. :) And I also found a way to test it (just for other readers of this thread): The command line tool "dig". By using dig a-ads.com and dig @8.8.4.4 a-ads.com in comparison you can check what server is being used to resolve...

DNS redirect to local DNS server

Hi! Some of my devices use an hard-coded DNS server, i.e. 8.8.8.8. I like to re-direct this DNS traffic to my local unbound DNS server by using the firewall script of my AC86 router. I use the following IPTABLES commands. The rule is added correctly to iptables. Are these rules correct and how...

RAM full, Wifi crash, what can I do?

Yes, I used AMTM to create a swap file on an external ext2-formatted USB drive attached to the router. I did so because I can remember some of the AMTM programms recommended setting up a swap file.

RAM full, Wifi crash, what can I do?

Hi! While using Skype for video conferences my AC86U's Wifi keeps crashing atfer some time - sometimes it takes half an hour, sometimes only a few minutes. Wifi is gone then, neither my laptop or the smartphone can find the SSID anymore. I have to plug out and in the router to make the Wifi...

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Hi Adamm! Another question: how can I modify the cru times (cronjob). My router is powered off from midnight to 5 pm and thus cru commands during that time aren't executed.

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Thank you a lot! It seems to work now. :) Great! I don't know what messed up my previous installation. (And I totally forgot the installation command of the first post :haha: Issue closed ;)

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Actually, I didn't toggle any. Up to today I didn't even know how to interact with Skynet on the command line. Anyway, I'll try what you suggested and set it up again from scratch ... Edit: I performed the rm command. And now? How can I uninstall Skynet? It's still shown in amtm as installed.

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Oh, I forgot to mention, I tried that and it brings up the same error message - and still no logging: "/jffs/scripts/firewall: line 5659: arithmetic syntax error" I can't even uninstall Skynet because of it. The process stops after these error messages. :( The code in line 5659 is as follows...

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Hi! I've got a problem running SkyNet on my ASUS Router: No WebUI button for Skynet is displayed in the router's admin panel although I use the latest firmware (>384.15). Running the command "firewall settings webui enable" prints " WebUI Integration Requires Logging to be Enabled", " WebUi...

Unable to get OpenVPN Server to work on RT-AC86U with ASUSWRT-Merin

Thank you for your post. :) I have the same problem but no time yet time to write a post. May I ask what is the reason for that from the network's point of view? I also created a forward rule, reverted changed settings like DNS to standard ... but to no avail, I had the same error as punkinpun...

    wan-event script not executed

Aww, darn ... thank you ... changed "-eq" to "=". I overlooked that. Now it works ... hurray ^^

    wan-event script not executed

Hi! My old wan-start worked fine. After updating to firmware .15 I renamed it to wan-event and adapted it to consider the new parameters. But it doesn't call the "wan-event-connected.user script" anymore in its code. What is wrong with the following code of the wan-event script? #!/bin/sh if...

Do you reboot often your router ?

I have been rebooting my router(s) on each single day for the last 12 years or so. Reason is simple: I turn off power during night time. And I haven't had a single issue with rebooting. In the first years I simply powered it off and then I switched to shutting it down properly before turning off...

wan-start script also run on wan-stop

Oh, that's good news. So, you're already on 384.15 beta? I'm on 384.13_2. Guess I still have to wait for .15 to be released.

wan-start script also run on wan-stop

Hi! I just found out that /jffs/scripts/wan-start is also run when the wan interface is stopped, e.g. by command 'halt'. I found out by letting this script email me a message when WAN starts (works great), but I also receive the email when I halt the router before power is turned off. A reboot...
