    Network flooded by dns.msftncsi.com requests

Thank you very much. The issue is solved then. :)

    Network flooded by dns.msftncsi.com requests

Ohh, thank you very much. Yes, I know most screenshots. What is new to me are these DNS filter settings though, I'll have a look at it. :) Not yet sure what they do. My DNS LAN settings are equal to yours. Yes, you're right. I once deliberately set 'connect to DNS server automatically' to 'no'...

    Network flooded by dns.msftncsi.com requests

Mmh, maybe that's because I also use unbound on my raspberry pi for DoT purposes. Each DNS traffic of my network is routed through pihole and then unbound and then upstream to DoT servers. My pi hole's IP address is advertised to all clients as the DNS server.

    Network flooded by dns.msftncsi.com requests

Hhm, reading your lines makes me think that unticking that 'DNS query' box should quit sending these numerous domain requests? Is it that what you mean? Well, in my case the box isn't ticked by default, I just switched it on to make the screenshot above. The only effect the box seems to have...

    Network flooded by dns.msftncsi.com requests

Thank you very much to both of you. Well, it isn't really because of performance issues, but these requests are cramming logs. I use pihole (for example) and with the new router everything I see in the logs is only that mstfncsi.com domain, other domain requests have to work hard to attract...

    Network flooded by dns.msftncsi.com requests

Hi! Every 15 seconds the router sends a request to dns.msftncsi.com and is flooding the network. I found a setting in the router GUI. Ticking "DNS query" makes it visible, it doesn't affect the frequency of the request tho: What is the purpose of these requests and how can I decrease the...

Powering off the router by shell command

    Thank you, that's what I needed :)

Powering off the router by shell command

Sorry, I totally forgot to mention it: it's an AC87U on firmware 384.13-2. Oh, that's sufficient for me. A hardware timer clock takes care of switching off the power, but before that happens I want to shut down the router. Bringing it in an idle state is all I need. Thank you!

Powering off the router by shell command

Hi! I need to power off my router at a certain time of the day. I'd use a cron job for that, but what command can I use to shut down the router? Usually I'd use "shutdown" or "poweroff", but none of these are available. I have Entware installed. Is there a package that provides shutdown...

Connection and Wifi fail after changing router's IP

Hi! After changing my AC87's local IP address from its default 192.168.1.1 to something different like 192.168.87.1 both the internet connection and the Wifi signal completely fail after the router's reboot. "Wifi fails" means the green icon in the upper right corner of the configuration page...

    Budget router with Asuswrt-Merlin support

Ah I understand. Thank you. So I'll check the RT-AC66U_B1, seems reasonable and a good advice. Or would you rather recommend John's fork for my old N66U? I've just read of it.

    Budget router with Asuswrt-Merlin support

Thank you very much. I'll have a closer look. :) I know the list posted above. However, what is actually the reason that - for example - router Asus RT-AC53 or other models available not supported by Asuswrt-Merlin?

    Budget router with Asuswrt-Merlin support

Hi! I am looking for a new router but find it hard to find a model that suits my needs. I currently have the outdated Asus N66U. The new router should simply meet the following criteria: - budget (< 130 US-$ or €), no need for cutting edge speed or latest technology - current Asuswrt-Merlin...

    OpenVPN Client: Accept DNS Configuration

Omg, thank you! I didn't found *this* source before. It would be a charm if those short explanations could make it into a tooltip in the GUI or so.

    OpenVPN Client: Accept DNS Configuration

Hi! My question is about the OpenVPN Client setting: Accept DNS Configuration: Strict Accept DNS Configuration: Exclusive What is the difference between these two values? How do they work compared to each other? There are a few webpages with explanations on this, but to me they seem...

Strange openssl behaviour / fopen error

Hi! I am trying to set up an openssl script (also see http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showpost.php?p=89025&postcount=78), but performing the openssl command ends with a strange error message. The openssl command is: openssl smime -encrypt -aes256 public.pem -in plain.txt -out mail.txt...

    Notifications (E-Mail)

A geek question :) ... I use S/MIME to generally sign/encrypt each of my outgoing emails. So, I'm wondering if and how it is possible to enhance the mail script in terms of encrypting the notification email with the public key of my own recipient address before it is sent?

    How to secure the RT-AC66U?

Hi! Unfortunately I can't get it working for me; I use 'SSH Secure Shell' as client software though. SSH Secure Shell offers a wizard to create the key pair which I did. I copied the content of the public key file into the n66u's according configuration field (i.e. I didn't use the...
