RT-AX88U maxing out a core and regularly showing 60+ MB/s upload

So i the conclusion its most likely an attack via Asus AI feature (Disk or Cloud)?

Latest (Oct 2024) "best" recommended router for Merlin?

Best Asus for Merlin, performance pr $ I would guess that is the RT-BE88U. If you go to the new 98 models, the price doubles, or more.

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

If I were to try out pfsense firewall, which model would be roughly the same as the RT-BE88U? Edit: Forget about it, these boxes do not have any wifi

New models to be introduced with 3006.102.2

The advantage I will get over my AX88U is better router hardware (for example for VPN) and maybe a little bit faster internet. And to take the advantage of that I also need to get 2 new 2.5g switches, + new cat 6a/7 cables, which adds about 250€ more on the router. So you are most likely correct...

New models to be introduced with 3006.102.2

Ok, but its not officially supported by Merlin. This is now the cheapest one I can find. The 2 others supported cost close to 1000$ here in Norway. The RT-BE88U is under half the price.

New models to be introduced with 3006.102.2

The big difference is new firmware upgrade!

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

And just like that, we suddenly have other options to get over to the new firmware; the RT-BE88U and RT-BE86U. So the RT-BE88U would be a small upgrade, and at the same time be able to run the new firmware https://www.snbforums.com/threads/new-models-to-be-introduced-with-3006-102-2.91761/

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

Ok, but the GT-AX6000 is a bit older and will maybe lose support a couple years earlier then the AX88U Pro I guess. Prices are a bit higher (20% or so) for the AX88U Pro here in Norway

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

And the cheapest way to get to use 5.0 of the firmware is the get a Asus RT-AX88U Pro correct?

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

I get your points, but compared to most other PC hardware (except GPUs), the prices for these top models routers have really gone up drastically...

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

WHOA! The Netgear Nighthawk RS700 is just as expensive as the new Asus models, the Netgear Nighthawk RS300 is about half the price, but at of course cut features/performance. Why are these new gen models so expensive?! What happened to routers? Suddenly all chips they use gone up many times in...

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

Thanks, and I agree. These new routers are in a whole other ballpark expensive, I have a hard time understanding it, like they were whole laptops or smartphones. Not gonna get any of them at the current prices. And I have no clue if there are any 5.0 changes I really need. A few years back I...

Moving to 2 floor house, want Asus Merlin comp. router, any reason not to buy the RT-AX88U Pro?

Here in Norway its actually more expensive now then when I got mine (currency/import issues I guess), but this one is a lot of router for the money, to my limited knowledge.

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

I were referring to VPN performance etc, not lan/wan

Moving to 2 floor house, want Asus Merlin comp. router, any reason not to buy the RT-AX88U Pro?

Just to finish this off; I ended up getting a cheap ASUS RT-AX1800U that was on sale. Set it up a few rooms over as a repeater(?), and it served the purpose.

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

Do the newer models offer better performance or anything when it comes to VPN to LAN?

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

I have a 1GB fiber-line. About 3 PCs, 2 phones and 3-4 tablets, TV, nVidia Shield etc. All are not used at the same time, but about 4-5 devices are used at peak times at the same time.

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

Seems strange to me that there has been no good advancement in router features the last 5 years... Edit: I just checked, I used the model before the AX88U for 6 years before switching to the AX88U.

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

All good questions; for me is just FOMO, and the router is almost 5 years old. I have some use for settings up a few things at home (servers/services), to access from outside the house, but not gotten around to do it yet.

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

So, had my Asus RT-AX88U since 2019, no problems with it as far as I know. But what would I gain from going over to the super expensive RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO models (outside of supporting newer wifi standards)? The new models seem to hit absurd prices, and I am not sure why. So I kinda have a...
