Least expensive wired-only gigabit router? (TP-Link Festa FR205? Others?)

Since my DSL modem is running in transparent bridge mode (i.e., not as a router), my wifi router runs as a router rather than simply a wireless access point. For my little home network, the secondary VLAN ID doesn't really matter. If it really does need to be changed at some point, that's...

Least expensive wired-only gigabit router? (TP-Link Festa FR205? Others?)

I think it has something to do with how the wifi router handles things when its LAN and WAN interfaces are in the same broadcast domain. Things get weird when that's the case. When I segment the LAN and WAN interfaces onto separate VLANs and separate network IDs, things work perfectly.

Least expensive wired-only gigabit router? (TP-Link Festa FR205? Others?)

The wifi router's WAN interface gets a public IP from the ISP (this is the purpose of the transparent bridging mode of the DSL modem (the DSL modem is not in "router" mode). I see the confusion because I actually stated this somewhat imprecisely (but it shows in the diagram): The wifi router's...

Least expensive wired-only gigabit router? (TP-Link Festa FR205? Others?)

I can't connect both the wifi router's LAN and WAN interfaces to the same network ID. When I do that, the wifi router gets very confused; this causes all kinds of weird connectivity issues, and the DSL modem's LAN side is not accessible. The only way I was able to make it work was to put the...

Least expensive wired-only gigabit router? (TP-Link Festa FR205? Others?)

    For the curious, a brief overview: +----------------+ +-----------------+ | DSL Modem | | L2 Switch | | 192.168.0.1/24 | | 192.168.1.3/24 | +-----------LAN--+ +--1--2--3--4--5--+ |...

Least expensive wired-only gigabit router? (TP-Link Festa FR205? Others?)

I went ahead and installed the FR205 (small and under $50 USD) in place of the TL-R402M. Works exactly as needed and expected. Thanks for the responses and suggestions.

Least expensive wired-only gigabit router? (TP-Link Festa FR205? Others?)

Thanks for the suggestions! The Linksys wifi gigabit router would work (provided I can disable the wifi), but it's physically too big. The wired router dosen't need to support VLANs (the old TL-R402M I'm replacing doesn't support VLANs). It has no Internet route and sits only on the inside of...

Least expensive wired-only gigabit router? (TP-Link Festa FR205? Others?)

I should specify that I have very limited space. A multi-homed mini PC would work but way overkill for what I need. I think the little TP-Link FR205 box will work for what I need...

Router low performance wifi on AP Mode

(I thought this forum was for wired-only routers?)

Least expensive wired-only gigabit router? (TP-Link Festa FR205? Others?)

I use a separate VLAN and network ID for the LAN side of my DSL modem. (Why? Because assigning the LAN side of the DSL modem an address on my "main" network does not work: The LAN side of the DSL modem is not pingable and results in weird connectivity problems. The fix was to put the LAN side of...

    text config file?

I realize I'm a little late to this party, but if you're on Windows there's also a nice GUI tool for this. https://github.com/medo64/WrtSettings

    RT-AC66U B1 - LAN interface acts strangely

For the benefit of other readers: It turns out that creating a VLAN for the WAN interface on the router resolves this issue. Thanks to all who commented and assisted.

    TL-PA7010P - support VLAN tagging?

I ended up buying two managed switches and created a VLAN trunk between them to segment the traffic and this solved the problem quite nicely. Thanks for the assistance!

    TL-PA7010P - support VLAN tagging?

Right, I'd need two pairs of adapters. Buying two more powerline adapters is more expensive (both cost and space) than a pair of managed switches. Thanks for the idea, though!

    TL-PA7010P - support VLAN tagging?

For this suggestion to work, I'd actually need two more powerline adapters. This is pricier (not to mention uglier and taking up more space) than getting a pair of managed switches and creating a VLAN. But thanks for the suggestion!

    TL-PA7010P - support VLAN tagging?

Even if I were to do so, the three powerline adapters would be on the same network segment, which is actually what I want to avoid.

    TL-PA7010P - support VLAN tagging?

Correct; powerline adapters must go directly to the wall recepticle.

    TL-PA7010P - support VLAN tagging?

Great find, and it confirms my suspicion that powerline adapters work at a layer 2 level (basically same as an unmanaged switch). Thanks!

    TL-PA7010P - support VLAN tagging?

Good idea, but unfortunately there's only one outlet at the router's location.

    TL-PA7010P - support VLAN tagging?

Good day, We have DSL (PPPoE) and I have an ASUS RT-AC66UB1 router. The DSL connection enters the property in a location that is not optimal for WiFi performance, so I want to relocate the WiFi router to a more central location using my powerline adapters. I have a VoIP device (Ooma Telo)...
