Replace router antennas with simpler style?

Good article. I think the issue with aftermarket antennas is what's inside. As in the photo in your article, a large antenna housing can be deceiving. :)

Replace router antennas with simpler style?

My experience is also that changing out the OEM antennas normally degrades performance.

amcfwm - AsusWRT-Merlin Custom Firmware Manager

I also self-compiled after the March 17 commit "webui: revert DNSFilter.asp changes from GPL 45581" to get a 386.6 Alpha1 build for RT-AX56U. The QoS WAN/LAN Bandwidth Monitor is working correctly for me on the RT-AX56U.

amcfwm - AsusWRT-Merlin Custom Firmware Manager

@kernol my interest is only in part security. My other interest is that those are closed source components that a lot of users don't want to use. Removing them could reduce overhead on the build and improve router performance.

The scripts work great!!! @RMerlin if I want to make a build without Trend Micro AiProtection and Asus AiCloud, how do I do that?
  7. J

[SCRIPT] asuswrt-sha256-signature - easily check a firmware files SHA256 security signature

Also use 7Zip in Windows to check the CRC. Works very well.

    ASUS/Merlin privacy concerns?

I think your questions are valid. But the CNET article is dumb as a bag of rocks. The only manufacturer CNET lists as collecting data is Arris (CommScope) which makes old fashioned cable modems which have very limited firmware. CommScope is an old line telecom equipment provider mainly of...

Huge Bufferbloat with ASUS RT-AX86U and installed the latest Merlin Firmware. 500mbps up/down connection

Agree with @bbunge Kill the QOS. You don't need QOS, which was really designed to prioritize bandwidth amongst devices sharing a lower speed connection. And for the record, most gaming is NOT very bandwidth intensive. As an example, the Sony PS5 only "requires" 3 Mbps. @Incubus32 if you...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 Beta is now available

Running great. 386.5 Beta 1 seems to be a very stable and solid release.

If I want to reduce the size of the compiled image by excluding some of the Asus proprietary modules, what is the best way of doing that?

386.4 on AC88U breaks Chromecast device detection

For Chromecast all the devices must be on the same WIFI network. And, you might check to make sure that AP isolation is not on.

@Aminoacid Are you using a guest network?

Slow speedtest results on router compare to LAN clients

I have the quad core RT-AX56U. I am paying for 600 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up Internet service. I have seen as high as 723 MB download measured from the router. As shown in the image, I just ran Speedtest from the Router using Merlin 386.4 and measured 702 MB download and 26 MB upload. Many...

    More RT-AX58U woes

Yes. I had asked Asus about the capability being 2x2 or 4x4 when I had my RT-AX58U routers. As Asus wrote me, and also cited on Wikidevi, the RT-AX82U is 4x4 on the 5GHz band while the RT-AX58U is 2x4 on the 5GHz band. Both are 2x2 on the 2.4GHz band. The RT-AX58U is prevented in firmware from...

    More RT-AX58U woes

Hopefully Asus will either terminate this router or update it to address all the bugs. In other news, RT-AX58U named wurst router of 2021!

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.4 is now available

The CPU load average (which in my understanding includes I/O, process queue and CPU load) is really high on my RT-AX56U running 386.4. I have never seen this above 2 before. This means that each of the 4 CPU cores is about 50% occupied inclusive of I/O. On prior builds, this would be around...

RT-AX3000 crashing every few days in bcmsw_rx (Tried hw/sw reset/rebuilds and even new replacement router)

T The Marantz may have violated some signaling or voltage requirement, sure it is possible. I don't know which chipset(s) Marantz is using, but for sure they are not making their own chipset. Out of curiosity had you used your Marantz device with any other router without crashing it prior to...

RT-AX3000 crashing every few days in bcmsw_rx (Tried hw/sw reset/rebuilds and even new replacement router)

Not doubting your troubleshooting, but if an external device can cause a router to crash that is a major design shortcoming of the router. Using Ethernet or WIFI is a very basic router function; if the RT-AX58U cannot manage that it is really astounding and violates every principle of HW and SW...
