RT-AX3000 crashing every few days in bcmsw_rx (Tried hw/sw reset/rebuilds and even new replacement router)

I went through RT-AX58U warranty replacement refurb routers and worked with Asus support for a number of weeks last year trying to prevent the crashes on the RT-AX58U; Asus eventually wound up buying back my RT-AX58U as in their own testing they found a problem that their techs called "slow...

How to let Devices see each other in Guest network?

If you look at my posts, I have previously written about this. You can set variable ap_isolate = 0 and then your IoT devices can communicate to each other. You don't need scripts. Just keep in mind that each time you save your guest network settings, it will set this variable back to 1 (a...

RT-AX3000 crashing every few days in bcmsw_rx (Tried hw/sw reset/rebuilds and even new replacement router)

I would bet that if you go back to the latest 384 build that your router will be stable. You might want to do that and run for a week or so on 384 just to rule out any HW failure.

RT-AX3000 crashing every few days in bcmsw_rx (Tried hw/sw reset/rebuilds and even new replacement router)

Both bands. But my devices on 2.4Ghz are older and do not support IPv6. I can state factually that on Guest Network 1, I was getting crashes from several times a day to in a best case a crash every 1-2 days. Using Guest Network 2 on the latest 386.4 alpha 1 build, I have been running for...

RT-AX3000 crashing every few days in bcmsw_rx (Tried hw/sw reset/rebuilds and even new replacement router)

No telling what Asus stuffed into Guest Network 1 as their intent was to allow it to be used with AIMesh. My suggestion would be to move to Guest Network 2 and see if that helps your situation. It is easy to change guest networks so not a lot of work to test this.

The largest business grade router company in the world is Cisco (50BUSD in annual revenue). Cisco owned Linksys up until 2013 when they sold it to Belkin. Linksys while owned by Cisco, and now, is one of the worst on firmware quality, features and update frequency. Cisco, for a lot of their...

Your ISP's DHCP is not functioning properly - Xfinity

The Motorola MB7621 cable modem works well with Xfinity Internet (and is approved by Comcast) and only costs $80 - $90 depending on where you buy it. After 7 months, the cable modem has paid for itself by getting rid of rental fees from the ISP. The Motorola MB7621 also works well with about...

Experiencing sadness because the RT-AX56U was not invited to the party.

Security of opensource vs closed source

Agree with U. Also taking the bait like an ant to sugar. Historically, most of the largest hacks have been with closed source software, Microsoft (Windows), Intel and AMD coming to mind. On the open source side, the Linux Kernel these days is 10 million lines of code, excluding comment...

Is this happening on a guest network?

    Guest network 3 unstable

The only Guest network with no added code is Guest Network 2. You might try that Guest Network.

Not sure why some are inferring that the AsusWRT-Merlin project is coming to an end. I don't have any inside knowledge of the Asus situation but my understanding of the posts is that: - Asus has had difficulty in releasing GPL source code and compiled modules on a timely basis, which has...

RT-AX3000 crashing every few days in bcmsw_rx (Tried hw/sw reset/rebuilds and even new replacement router)

I have been up stable and running on the 386.4 Alpha 1 build now for 8 days since moving my IoT devices off Guest Network 1. This level of stability was not possible when using Guest Network 1 + IPv6 on my RT-AX56U. Hope that Asus will go ahead and fix the coding in the Guest Network function...

RT-AX3000 crashing every few days in bcmsw_rx (Tried hw/sw reset/rebuilds and even new replacement router)

Yes. The guest network function is closed source, so unlike Ragu we don't know what is in there. For sure IPv6 and Guest Network 1 do not play nice due to the AIMesh code Asus put into the new Guest Network function in the 386 based builds. There could be other bad interactions too, and that...

RT-AX3000 crashing every few days in bcmsw_rx (Tried hw/sw reset/rebuilds and even new replacement router)

The issue may be with Guest Network 1: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/ipv6-native-with-prefix-delegation-does-not-provide-lan-side-ip-addresses-in-any-386-build-on-rt-ax56u.75301/ Try using only Guest Networks 2 and 3 and see if your problem goes away.

Ditto. I would also stick with the Merlin build as it has features I use not available in the stock firmware. As food for thought, many of the vulnerabilities require access or events that are unlikely to happen in real life. And in some cases the fixes for the vulnerabilities either don't...

Personally, I would rather have the Merlin firmware without the Trend Micro software. The black box of Trend Micro SW is probably as or more concerning than the alleged benefits it provides.

Someone expressed concern some days back about reverting back to Asus official firmware in order to be current on patches for security vulnerabilities. Well, looking at the latest RT-AX68U release from Asus, there are security patches that were released 6 years ago that Asus did not apparently...

Router crashes repeatedly when Guest Network 1 (5Ghz) is used and IPv6 is configured on the router

I am also using Stubby, but I don't think that has any impact from my testing. All of my IoT devices on the 5Ghz Guest WIFI can accept an IPv6 LAN side address. I have 8 - 9 devices on that guest network and they generate a lot of IP traffic. I am currently on the Alpha 1 and it is very...

Router crashes repeatedly when Guest Network 1 (5Ghz) is used and IPv6 is configured on the router

@L&LD as also confirmed by @KingBravery, I reported that if you use Guest Network 1 and have IPv6 turned on, you will have repeated router crashes on any of the 386 based builds. You will also see an ancillary defect in the software that I reported which is that the Guest Network devices on...
