    RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4_378_5587- Unofficial beta firmware

Did a factory reset with 3.0.0.4.378_5587, WPS still buggy with '12345670' . The only firmware that fixed the WPS issue was the one I posted in the WPS issue thread http://www.snbforums.com/posts/181485/

    RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4_378_5587- Unofficial beta firmware

Did not try factory reset, will do. However pin '12345670' is not in nvram, it is buried inside the code (my guess), in nvram you have the real 'legit' pin. Is it a pain in the a.. to factory reset whenever we need to upgrade firmware?

    Linksys EA8500 Max-Stream AC2600 MU-MIMO Smart Wi-Fi Router Reviewed

Unless I totally miss that, the reviewer from CNET did not disclose the clients cards he used for his test? especially the mu-mimo one?

Does the New Antennas on the RT-AC87 and RT-AC3200 Improve Signal Quality?

Hi "Just Checking", your ebay antenna is dualband maybe, to make sure the vendor must give give VSWR chart across the frequency band of interest just to make sure. Also a radiation pattern is also good to have as your ebay antenna surely is omni in azimut but not elevation, meaning covering...

Does An AC Router Improve N Device Performance?

@VPonwireless, I do not agree with your comments, Tim's results are very accurate, test methodology are also correct. I am a wireless engineer myself and Tim's result are very inline with what I tested myself, both in RF chamber and open air, I do see the improvement from 802.11n chipset to...

Infrared image of RT-AC87U 8-) I try to upload raw file (you can download Fluke Smartview to view) but the forum refuses it for not valid file, so I upload simple exported JPG, if the Admin gives me away to share the raw file, I will re-upload. There are 3 big heatsink from the JPG, the top is...

    Ranting about the FCC

Sorry to all, I'm the one who brought FCC into this thread while trying making a point about txpower ) But I am glad the Admin has created a thread for "FCC ranting". Quite weird how the thread fan out into. Good day Gents.

ASUS RT-AC87U WPA2 key cracked in 2 seconds

Agreed with sfx, the expectation is not the same in the enterprise or hospitality versus the "Joe Six-Pack" expectation. Different market, different pricing, different SLA. In 2013, I meet Robert Pera from Ubiquity, I asked him about the enterprise market and the 5 stars hotels, basically...

Does the New Antennas on the RT-AC87 and RT-AC3200 Improve Signal Quality?

I cracked open the antenna for the RT-AC87U and it is simply a 2dBi rubber duck type, there are more plastic than the antenna  the only thing I like is the antenna has a nice look! Marketing did a really good job by giving a "meaner" look to the old rubber duck, however this rubber duck...

    Ranting about the FCC

Somebody has to filed a complaint for the FCC to act. A person complained the Marriott Opryland on purpose blocked wifi that are not their own and https://www.fcc.gov/document/marriott-pay-600k-resolve-wifi-blocking-investigation . If I were ASUS, I would also make sure latest txpower is also...

Does An AC Router Improve N Device Performance?

No you are not over thinking 8-) There are always ways to "overclock" the txpower if you know how to solder, but more power does not translate into better wifi. Overclocking the power amplifier you run in non-linear zone, more errors from the receiver point of view. You have to be extremely...

Does An AC Router Improve N Device Performance?

I have no doubt you guys are smart 8-), I never question that, we are talking about wifi txpower here. As per FCC for 2.4ghz 30dbm/1W conducted power max + 6dbi ant =36dbm max EIRP. in 5Ghz FCC just allow lower band to 300mW. In the enterprise radio from both Atheros and Broadcom, I saw an...

Does An AC Router Improve N Device Performance?

@sfx your are right on, chipset for 802.11ac better horse power to process 802.11ac signals, better EVM in both Tx and RX sensitivity. To decode 256QAM vs 64QAM, for sure 64QAM will benefit the extra processing. I found in most 802.11ac design, the choice of more powerful PA(power amplifier)...

ASUS RT-AC87U WPA2 key cracked in 2 seconds

Same for RT-AC87U. But don't do this step 'disable WPS' follow by 'Hide SSID', the router will stop beaconing as radio is turn off? don't know why. Just do 'Hide SSID' and WPS is kind of OFF, you still see WPS but Locked. If reboot then WPS disappear completely from beacon.
