    A tip for new iOS14/iPadOS14/MacOS 11/Watch OS 7 users.

Right now I have multiple duplicate IP entries on the DHCP leases page for the Apple Watch as I’ve just been setting up mine and the wife’s new Series 6’s, some IP’s generated for the “Private Addresses” and now they have IP’s for their correct MAC Addresses.

    A tip for new iOS14/iPadOS14/MacOS 11/Watch OS 7 users.

On my devices I disabled it on my home network, but prior to disabling my router was generating random IP’s for them.

    A tip for new iOS14/iPadOS14/MacOS 11/Watch OS 7 users.

I have QOS setup for class of service with just a handful of devices given higher priority on a device basis, for me the big one it breaks is my nice neat naming scheme I have in my routers “Network Map” page. Quite often the devices don’t share their proper names to the router or they end up...

    A tip for new iOS14/iPadOS14/MacOS 11/Watch OS 7 users.

Hi all just a tip for you with regards to Apple’s latest device updates that may cause issues on certain router setups. If you are like myself I have my Asus router OCD level setup, every device has a proper name and icon under the network map page, and they all have their priorities assigned...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

This is my favourite page of your firmware, this is one of the most useful additions over the stock firmware for my usage.

RT-AC86U & DFS Channels (EU Model)

I’m still debating whether to switch back to the official release as I don’t really use many of the advanced features of Merlin‘s firmware, the only thing I use is FQ_Codel on the Adaptive QOS but even then I’m not sure how much of a performance boost that gives over stock firmware Adaptive_QOS...

RT-AC86U & DFS Channels (EU Model)

Right now the router is working almost perfectly but I do have one issue with it and it’s that it decides it will reboot randomly. When it’s up and running everything is working perfectly but just randomly it will reboot. I’m not sure if it’s a RAM usage issue or not. I have adaptive qos on...

RT-AC86U & DFS Channels (EU Model)

When I posted this I was running Merlin 384.18 and now I am running 384.19 I am locked to channel 100 and this issue appears to be fixed for me. On 384.18 it used to choose channel 108 or channel 64 and it was never very reliable, on some reboots It’d bounce between channel 108 and 64 randomly...

    Asus Auto Update Experiences

It needs to be enabled by default with the option to opt out i think. There are probably a huge amount of people out there who have 3rd party routers for better wifi over ISP routers that have had a one time setup by a tech savvy mate or family member and then left alone and forgotten about as...

    Asus Auto Update Experiences

On the whole I think auto updates are a good thing, as mentioned above most people will setup the router and forget about it until something goes wrong with it. This way it will keep those users protected with the latest fixes just like the ISP’s do with their own provided routers. I do however...

    Wireless router with dual wan

The 86U does have 2 LAN based WAN ports. Mine has the option of using the main WAN plus one of the standard LAN ports too. However as I said above it might not be very reliable anyway.

    Wireless router with dual wan

The AC86U does support dual WAN but in my usage case its pretty flakey. I have VDSL2 modem connected via the WAN port and a USB 4G modem hooked up via USB 3 as backup and upon initial boot it seems to switch between the connections no problems (I use it in failover and fallback modes) but after...

Advice on better Wifi range coverage for my house?

Definitely seems like they are working, hopefully even though the signal isn’t a huge amount stronger on the cameras it is enough for them to stay connected just that little bit better. It looks like they should stay connected a bit better and should solve your original issue.

Fingers crossed they do the job, for me they work extremely well.

Advice on better Wifi range coverage for my house?

Doubt it, WiFi doesn’t put out anywhere near as much power for it to be a health risk even with a panel antenna to direct it. If you do go the antenna route make sure you reboot the router after installing it, I just unscrewed the old antenna and screwed the panel on without powering off and...

Advice on better Wifi range coverage for my house?

I’ve just rebooted my 68U and now it is seeing the 86U in the house on both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz frequencies, since the latest Merlin update my 86U is now holding onto the DFS channels better and as such my 5GHz is much stronger and because of that the 68U with those antennas is connecting to my 86U...

Advice on better Wifi range coverage for my house?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00R1PA9EO/?tag=smallncom-21 Try one of these first, I have 2 on my 68U that I am using as an AIMesh node in my garage and the range on them is very impressive. It will make one of your antenna’s a directional one though so you’ll need to tweak the other 2 to...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

RT-AC86U (Main) & RT-AC68U (Node) dirty flash both from 384.18 - 384.19 and mostly gone well, in fact my 86U is now holding onto the DFS channels much better so all good there. However I have noticed a small issue and that is on the Traffic Analyser - Statistic page my monthly usage has pretty...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Can I ask and sorry if its been asked before but now you are adding 802.11k/v why aren’t you adding 802.11r for fast roaming? Does this require extra hardware or something? From what I have read 802.11r will prevent the momentary drop in wifi that can occur as you move between nodes, which would...
