RT-AC86U & DFS Channels (EU Model)

So I have recently purchased an RT-AC86U to replace my ageing RT-AC68U as I now have 30+ devices connected to my network and the 68U was starting to show its age a little bit (sometimes devices were sluggish, and a couple if times it locked up completely requiring a full power off and on) The...

    Asus RT-AC5300 (Main) to 2 X RT-AC68 (node) = Nintendo Switch Disaster

My Switches mostly behave just now and again they choose the wrong node/frequency to use and they refuse to give it up rather than change to the stronger signal. That being said AIMesh is overkill for me and if I dropped back to one router I wouldn’t have much of an issue. My AIMesh node was...

RT-AC86U or RT-AX88U if buying now?

To be honest I’m not sure how the RAM is used on these things. On my 68U which only has 256MB of RAM it used to hover around 100Mb free, and I’ve now got a 86U with 512MB of RAM and pretty much the exact same config as the 68U except that I am now using AIMesh and it too also hovers around 100MB...

    Asus RT-AC5300 (Main) to 2 X RT-AC68 (node) = Nintendo Switch Disaster

Must be, mine are European PAL models and they definitely do the DFS channels. Maybe not a different hardware model but definitely some kind of software region locking I reckon.

    Asus RT-AC5300 (Main) to 2 X RT-AC68 (node) = Nintendo Switch Disaster

That is false, my Nintendo Switches can connect to DFS channels. I’ve seen them on 52, 60, 100, & 108.

    Asus RT-AC5300 (Main) to 2 X RT-AC68 (node) = Nintendo Switch Disaster

The Nintendo Switch has the most basic WiFi implementation known to man. We have 3 in our house and we are using AIMesh with an 86U main and a 68U Node. Often the Switches will connect to the first signal it will find and lock itself onto it even if its only a 0-1bar 2.4GHz signal from the...

Asus RT-AC86U signature updates and reboots

Yeah its an odd one for sure, I’ve only had it a couple of weeks and its rebooted a couple of times. Today I did the nuclear option and put the router into recovery mode and reflashed the latest @RMerlin release and then did the WPS button NVRAM reset before setting up again. I have it...

Asus RT-AC86U signature updates and reboots

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I am having this issue. Was surfing the net and suddenly it all froze and then the WiFi dropped and came back. Looked into the router logs and it had rebooted as the uptime was only at about a minute by the time I had logged in. When I saw this thread after...

Has my RT-AC68U been hacked? Odd 2-Way IPS hits!

FTP and all USB media serving has been stopped and the hard drive pulled, I have also disabled UPNP too but not sure if I will enable that again as I need to see if I break anything by having it disabled. According to AIProtect the router has a full green secure setup, lets see if this stops...

Has my RT-AC68U been hacked? Odd 2-Way IPS hits!

Hmm I’m hoping you are right and that it is AIProtect reporting it a bit wonky rather than the other way around. I shall disable FTP as it wasn’t used a huge amount in the first place, and yes I knew it wasn’t the most secure but was hoping strong passwords might have mitigated it a bit. Didn’t...

Has my RT-AC68U been hacked? Odd 2-Way IPS hits!

Ahh yes the screen shot is a bit small, although on my end it’s full size for some reason the forum won’t show it full size regardless of whether I choose full or thumbnail. However the attacks appear to be going from inside out as the source IP is my own external IP (the blacked out box) and...

Has my RT-AC68U been hacked? Odd 2-Way IPS hits!

What’s worrying me most about these hits is that they appear to be something on my side trying to get out, rather than script kiddies trying to get in like every other 2way IPS hit that seems to be normal with these routers (multiple threads about 2way IPS all are external inwards)

Has my RT-AC68U been hacked? Odd 2-Way IPS hits!

Yes I do, so did my friend. However I would assume that stuff would attempt to dial in to the FTP from outside, not the FTP dial out?

Has my RT-AC68U been hacked? Odd 2-Way IPS hits!

Hi all. I had a look at my RT-AC68u router firmware this morning and noticed under the 2Way IPS protection page that I have had some Client Device Infected hits. Well this sent me into panic mode thinking my laptop had some malware, however the laptop has had a full scan with latest definitions...

Adaptive QOS, have I set it wrong or am I expecting too much of it?

Out of curiosity RMerlin in your experience would one of the newer more powerful processor models (AC86u or Blue Cave) allow me to enable "Traditional QOS" but have enough processing to make up for loosing CTF? As I said above with Traditional QOS on my RT-AC68u I loose NAT Acceleration which...

Adaptive QOS, have I set it wrong or am I expecting too much of it?

I really dont understand QOS. I've just got a ZyXEL VMG8924 which I am using in bridge mode for its (very good) VDSL modem, under its settings there is also a QOS option which automatically sets its speed from the link rate. However with it on and the ASUS QOS disabled as described above the...

Adaptive QOS, have I set it wrong or am I expecting too much of it?

I did have a look into that but to be honest it looked far too complicated for me to understand. I'll leave QOS off as to be honest I'm not noticing any noticeable performance drop without it. Bufferbloat is now a C grade on the DSL Reports speed test but in normal usage the connection seems...

Adaptive QOS, have I set it wrong or am I expecting too much of it?

I've just opted to disable QOS for now, seems like the best middle ground in terms of the Switch still working whilst Steam is downloading but with NAT Acceleration enabled allowing for fast transfers to my connected storage devices.

Adaptive QOS, have I set it wrong or am I expecting too much of it?

Ok whilst I've fixed the Switch connectivity issues whilst downloading from Steam, switching to Traditional QOS has now caused me another issue. With Traditional QOS the Nat Acceleration doesn't work anymore and as such the transfers from the hard drive on the Routers USB port has now plummeted...

Adaptive QOS, have I set it wrong or am I expecting too much of it?

I think you might be right with that, hence why changing to traditional QOS worked best for me. What I found odd and what was my daughter was able to watch YouTube on her iPad whilst the Steam Download was going with no issues it was only the Switch that was the issue, so I think QOS was...
