(link) Review: 24 TB add-on to your router for $99.78 (+disks)

Not absolute best but price/utility best. A comparable NAS still costs around $100 per drive bay, $400 total. And these entry level NASes are not exactly performance monsters either. Throughput is limited by USB 3 and ESATA, rest is up to whatever you connect it to. Even USB 2 is good enough for...

Review: 24 TB add-on to your router for $99.78 (+disks)

...with RAID. Sure you can blow any amount on money on a NAS box but they still cost approx. $100 per drive bay, meaning at least $400 for a comparable amount of storage. While your smart router can already handle ordinary NAS box extended functions like torrent, media streaming, etc. The...

(link) Review: 24 TB add-on to your router for $99.78 (+disks)

Please see the main article here http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20379, couldn't quite decide whether i should post it here with routers, or into NAS forum because it turns your router into a cheap NAS. Don't mean to spam, don't taser me bro, i think this is of interest...

Review: 24 TB add-on to your router for $99.78 (+disks)

One dock like this adds 4 pcs 6 TB (or smaller) sata disks via usb 3 or esata to any device, including a router. I have 16 TB connected to my Asus RT-AC66U right now. Works very well considering the price. Note that your router's Linux kernel version needs to be at least 2.6.28 in order to...

    exports.postconf ?

What does it do and when is it run? Unlike other .postconf files, this really is not self-evident by name. (Search found nothing with exports.postconf)

[TUTORIAL] Native Transmission on asuswrt routers through optware

Suggesting in "S95transmission" script change the disk evaluation loop as follows so it will work with disk labels too; (a router with 2 usb could support 4 low power pocket drives with usb hub in each usb port, thus c & d): for i in "a1" "a2" "a3" "a4" "b1" "b2" "b3" "b4" "c1" "c2" "c3" "c4"...

    AC68U USB Drive Permissions

Check that your rw permissions are correct on the usb application> servers center> samba share page. If you have more than 1 username check you're using the correct one with write permissions.

More than 2 usb disks? [AC66]

I'm struggling to attach more than 2 usb disks on Asus AC66, first with a usb hub to usb port 1 with 2 disks (disks A and B), that shows up fine. But 3rd usb disk (disk C) to usb port 2 (without hub) will not be seen. Disconnecting usb port 1 2nd disk (B), usb port 2 usb disk (C) will become...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

If you lose some/all your 5G channels after playing with region settings, you have to specify the channels list you want, see the last 2 lines before nvram commit & reboot, this is for AC66: wl country #a wl autocountry_default #a nvram set pci/1/1/ccode=#a nvram set pci/1/1/regrev=0...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.47 is out

This is the proper way to clear the nvram: mtd-erase -d nvram && clear nvram && reboot You do it in the linux shell prompt by opening a telnet or ssh connection to your router.

    TP-LINK Archer C8 is out

Well that's the thing, the WDR-4900 I tested worked perfectly well up to 63 files per folder. And not at all afterwards. Also the folder traversal mechanism was faulty, with nested folders funny things happened, files got lost, folders got lost. Judging from comments at their tech support...

Simple NAS device with just Gigabit Ethernet and USB3 ports?

Get a router with USB3, buy a powered USB3 hub, attach as many 2.5" pocket disks as you want. Or if you're willing to use 3.5" drives, buy 2 pcs WD 6 TB Mybook usb3 drives, thats 12TB right there as most routers have 1 x usb3 and 1xusb2. Or a usb3 hub and powered 3.5" drives.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.47 is out

Wow this is huge for people who use minidlna and Download Master (i believe DM uses inotify for checking the watchdir), a warning would be nice. Is 376.47 the first firmware thus affected? Still on 374.43.

    RT-ac66u reboots like crazy

My AC66 sometimes was stuck in a boot loop when it was new, only changing to Merlin fw solved it. Had something to do with the ethernet cable as with the wan cable unplugged the bootloop would never happen. Did you clear the nvram between fw flashes? mtd-erase -d nvram && clear nvram && reboot

R7000 Overkill For streaming 1080p Blu Ray Rips?

My home setup is physically quite similar to yours, what I have is an Asus AC66 with two WD 2TB 2.5" hdd's connected to it. I've reripped my bluerays to h.264 with 10-20 Mbps variable bitrate (10-12 GB for an average movie) and use 2.4GHz channel for streaming to tv only, as our 2.4 is very...

Whats are Pro and Cons connecting a external hardisk to wireless router

External hard disk is cheap and works well when the router supports it well. I have 2 pcs WD 2TB 2.5" usb drives connected to an Asus AC66 which is usb 2 only and it's a good setup for streaming 1080p movies and music up to 3-5 simultaneous clients. The drives are formatted as ext3 !! This...

    TP-LINK Archer C8 is out

Has TP-Link fixed their USB HDD and Samba issues already? Their samba used to go into eternal loop if there were more then 64 files in a directory... Tried WDR4900 a year ago and promptly returned it because of that. Also their DLNA had significant issues, stuff just wasn't there or entire...

[AC68U] Download master does not download torrents

In both cases it's about using the Linux command line through telnet/ssh. You need to be running Merlin firmware, willing to invest some time and effort into learning how to use it (start here: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki ) ; create a /jffs partition to yourself and the...
