Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

The PPS output of my GPS module is connected to the DCD pin of the FTDI usb-to-serial converter. Be aware that some FTDI modules do not break out all the pins. The ones I bought two years ago do not have a DCD pin. The PL2303 modules are the same way. Before you purchase, be sure you can see...

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

An "o" means it's using my router clock as a PPS reference? This is really good news to me. I'm not noticing any jitter spikes either, but time will tell. "The peer has been declared the system peer and lends its variables to the system variables. However, the actual system synchronization is...

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

I decided to be brave and fix the problem myself. Here's my Asuswrt-Merlin backport of Paul Chavent's FTDI-PPS patch 2013-09-16 to Linux kernel 3.13.1. Asuswrt-Merlin FTDI-PPS patch: diff --git a/release/src-rt-6.x.4708/linux/linux-2.6.36/drivers/usb/serial/ftdi_sio.c...

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

There is a fix to this FTDI driver issue to support PPS, as of Linux 3.13.1. The Asuswrt-Merlin kernel is Linux 2.6.36.4. Here is the fix: 2013-09-26, USB: serial: call handle_dcd_change in ftdi driver, by Paul Chavent...

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

Success. My router can now set its clock from the GPS receiver. However, the PPS events are not coming through to the Linux kernel on the router. This just means I won't get nanosecond precision. No problem. Unfortunately, the FTDI driver included with Asuswrt-Merlin does not report PPS...

    Connection through TOR fails?

TOR is and always will be TCP only. UDP and ICMP traffic get dropped.

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

I think it will be .PPS only. The PPS line discipline option, I have already enabled in my Asuswrt-Merlin kernel. Still waiting for the pieces to arrive, then we will see. It comes with software to configure the GPS module. I'm only interested in NEMA sentences for the current time. It may...

HACK: build a libcap static library Maybe someone else could do it a better way, if the full version is needed for ARM router? Libcap is for determining the Linux capabilities? For some reason, the Entware package maintainers deemed it necessary to compile in Libcap support, so I followed...

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

I think you've got a similar project, except there is no PPS clock pulse to handle, only NEMA with GPSD? Unfortunately GPSD is not available through Entware, so you would compile it yourself? My GPS antenna is not yet connected to the router because it is being shipped from Hong Kong and I am...

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

Must first build the Asuswrt-Merlin firmware. Then use the ARM toolchain, included with Asuswrt-Merlin, to build Libcap and Ntpd. Don't forget to do this first step. Copy timepps.h from the pps-tools folder to /usr/include so NTPD compiles with PPS support. This is the PPS interface that...

Ntp VIRT 6112 RES 1224 MEM 0.5% Ntpd VIRT 3108 RES 2928 MEM 1.1% My router is RT-AC68U. The drift value is 6.450 PPM, or 0.55728 seconds per day. My Ntpd was compiled and statically linked against the version of OpenSSL included with the Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 firmware. So I had to build...

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

Managed to get ntpd compiled and running on the RT-AC68U. It is necessary for NEMA/PPS serial input from the GPS antenna module. Also had to disable the router's NTP client by setting it's NVRAM variables to empty because it was conflicted with my ntpd. Hopefully the pieces will arrive soon...

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

Where I live the Internet/network time source is unreliable. If this project is successful, my router clock can be set to within 50 nanoseconds of the stratum 0 time sources (aka the GPS satellite atomic clocks). Just want to be as close as possible to the correct time. I love this computer...

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

Just waiting for the pieces to arrive from Hong Kong!! Then we will see. I thought I'd need to buy a Garmin 18x LVC for $65, but there's no way to know for sure if it has the 1-PPS output signal. It's way cheaper to buy the pieces and build it yourself. RY725AI - $18 ebay FT232RL - $2.50...

Set the router clock with a GPS receiver for under $70

My RT-AC68U is running Asuswrt-Merlin rebuilt with that kernel configuration now. Also, plugged in a USB-to-Serial converter and it gave me a /dev/ttyUSB0. It's a FT232RL with a hole for the DCD pin. You need the DCD for the 1PPS signal (one pulse-per-second). AND, just ordered the...

This project is not for the faint of heart. However, I will try this. Here's the pieces you need and how to build it: http://atoomnet.net/time-server-using-1pps-gps-receiver/ You must have a working Linux build environment for compiling the Asuswrt-Merlin firmware because you need to rebuild...

Has anyone tried it? Looks like I'd turn on PPS (pulse per second) in the Asuswrt-Merlin firmware and make a USB-to-Serial cable to connect the GPS receiver to my router. Synchronizing ntpd to a Garmin GPS 18 LVC via gpsd http://www.rjsystems.nl/en/2100-ntpd-garmin-gps-18-lvc-gpsd.php...

How to disable Windows 10 tracking using ipset + Entware

You could look at the iptables packet counts to see that the packets are being dropped. You could also visit a website: http://corp.sts.microsoft.com OR http://65.55.29.238 If the Microsoft Federation Services page comes, then your firewall is not blocking the Win10tracking IPs. Is the...
