RT-AX86U unknown device COMPAL INFORMATION (KUNSHAN) CO shown in Network map list

If you’re a customer of one of the ISP’s owned by Liberty Global or one of its subsidiaries, chances are big (as mentioned above) that this indeed your ISP’s modem. You can also try the open the IP in network map in a browser. Most of the login screens are rebranded with your ISP’s logo, so that...

VPN policy routing management: per client versus centralized?

I think I'd prefer option B, keeping the PBR LAN clients setup with the VPN clients. Knowing myself I'm bound to assign LAN clients to the wrong interface if I can't correlate the setup to them directly, as it is in the current scenario. Though, I can see the benefits for a more centralized...

ASUS Merlin 386.2_4 AiMesh not handling Guest Network properly

Yes, Asus is fully aware of this issue.

RT-AC86U incomplete Webinterface after flash to Merlin

It's stickied in the main Asuswrt-Merlin index, so it shouldn't be hard to find: https://www.snbforums.com/forums/asuswrt-merlin.42/ Not sure why you want to go there unless you have the wrong model in your title. The Gnuton-thread is only for those who have a DSL modem/router version.

    Router temperatures

I think this has been discussed before. Looking at the build construction the air is drawn into the back of the router and goes out on top. Therefore I'm blowing air in through the back, so it leaves the router at the top. I suspect you will only try to defy physics when sucking air out of the...

AX86u additional AiMesh node - what to buy?

There have been issues reported when combining AC and AX technology together, so I'd go for an RT-AX68U if I were you. Don't wait too long though, prices are still rising due to shortage in microchips, so it might be useful to compare prices thoroughly before purchasing.

RT-AC86U incomplete Webinterface after flash to Merlin

You did read the changelog didn't you? The part where it says that upgrading causes the router to start a maintenance process on one of its internal databases which can take anywhere from 5 minutes to all night. And clearing your browsers cache won't hurt either, to make sure the UI loads...

    Applying Merlin FW

When heading over there you might want to mention that a firmware validation check might prove to be useful. You shouldn't have been able to upload Asuswrt-Merlin in the first place and I'm glad you didn't brick your device.

    News [ 386.3_Alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Not if Asus hasn't released a new GPL in the meantime... If else, probably as soon as reasonably possible.

    Router temperatures

This. You should really keep this router in it's 'natural' position. Not only for all the right reasons @heysoundude mentioned, but when you put it face down on a surface, with a fan on the back, it will become probably the main dust collector in your house as well. Dust tends to drops down on...

    Does AiProtection really work?

I’m aware of that and have these covered in other ways, as far as they’re being used. But thanks for the heads up.

    Does AiProtection really work?

As this (see below) is the harvest of the last two months and three weeks, it looks to me like the combination of NextDNS (with only the oisd blocking list and OS-specific tracking blocking list for Windows and iOS) and ProtonVPN's Netshield are doing a great job together. All 12 hits were from...

News [Announcement] the official #asuswrt IRC channel will be moving to the Libera network

I think it might be (way) older even. I don't use IRC myself, but I guess because it's realtime, it's basically a predecessor of modern online collaboration platforms, developed somewhere right after Moses finished his tablets. So it's old and reliable. And apparently, like any other so called...

Can I Flash RMerlin FW on RT_AX88U before I set it up?

If you have the link which leads to the firmware upload page, yes, then you should be able to. At least, on my routers I can skip the basic setup and proceed to the firmware upload page, so I assume the same still goes for the AX88U. But you'll need another AX88U user to copy and paste the link...

    News [ 386.3_Alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Seems highly unlikely that this is related to the alpha as there's no new GPL yet compared to last stable point releases. And as Wi-Fi is outside of RMerlins control, Wi-Fi should perform the same as 386.2_4. I think the issues you've experienced have a different cause.

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0

No, as Cake requires a 4.1.x kernel, which is only available on the HND router models. See https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin.ng/commit/4cb578387ea5d8b3863adbd914daf43c51bbe9d8
